I get asked almost daily: "Cody, what's your opinion on your new 2022 WRX compared to your old VA WRX" Well today I am finally answering that question for you in the form of today's video, and also revealing the car that I almost bought instead of my WRX.

The handling is what sold me. Pulled out of a corner under full power and it felt like it was glued to the road. I couldn't get it to break loose or find even find it's limit (without doing something incredibly stupid). The sales guy was visibly concerned with what was going on, but he made a sale and got home to his family at the end of the day. I'm new to Subaru so it's good to hear an OG saying what I'm feeling on the road. Also, have good access to E85 where I'm at, excited to see what a little work will get me into.

Did the same. Hard brake into a corner, hard pull out and three grown men saying "damn!" at the same time. The handling is amazing. I traded my 2018 STI for the WRX GT and I think it has better handling.

The 2.4L has a LOT of potential. Just a simple tune on a stock engine can easily get you over 300hp and 350lb/ft at the wheels...safely. No knock. Not even stressing the engine...on pump gas.

@remissive slave 1871 If you're driving around an 01 Corolla, your taste in cars is much different than people buying a 2022 wrx. I have no problem with people disagreeing with the styling or having different opinions, but these cars are built for a specific market, and subaru knows that market well. People buy them for a quick, reliable awd commuter or a car to mod the hell out of and break, and there's no in-between. This current generation wrx is making seriously good power for a subaru with a little bit of tuning. Look at the new the new Golf GTI, the new Elantra N, the civic si etc. None of these cars are making much less or much more power than the wrx all in the same price range. Most of these cars are built with more quality than a subaru. However, most people who buy subarus don't buy them for luxury.

I have a 2023 limited 6mt brz....Im considering straight up trading for a new base model wrx. Curious if you have driven the brz and your thoughts in regards to shifter feel and handling compared? Also the rtv issue and now we have data on oil issues under high g loads on right hand corners. I wonder if the wrx has the same issues being its of the same family. thanks
@StreetInspired1
@StreetInspired1 11 ай бұрын
I have driven the new brz quite a bit and I do really like it but i prefer my wrx. They both handle very great, and the brz transmission feels way nicer but the wrx is much faster with a few mods and I think it handles almost as good and has awd so for me it was an easy choice. But there have been rtv issues found. But almost all sibaru engines have excess rtv and were being told not to worry about it.

Love my 2022 wrx. New Subie and Manuel driver. I find it to very jerky from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. Maybe it’s just my car. Idk. But I have to come of the clutch very slow in those gears and even with that there’s still a jerky feeling. Though I’ve done, pitch stop, shifter bushing, Cobb short shifter plate, shift stop, faction fab FL coil overs (not crazy about lowered car putting stock shocks back on) rtx 18 silver rims (liked the silver after watching your video when you with IIR as I have the world rally blue) v1 jdmuscle paint matched duck bill spoiler, v1 rain guards, motul gear oil, N transmission mount, positive shift bushings, And to arrive next week is the billets short shift in blue, and v1 roof window spoiler paint matched. I’m not digging how very jerky the stock tune is. Really want to get a Cobb access port and intake and a pro tune as see people make close to 315hp with just that. Waiting out warranty a bit longer though. 🙂
@StreetInspired1
@StreetInspired1 Жыл бұрын
I agree with this 100% mine feels the same way. I assumed it just needed some stiffer mounts but it sounds like that didn't fix it for you. I'll probably still do the mounts eventually but a tune should definitely smooth it out a lot!
@kevink.8048
@kevink.8048 Жыл бұрын
@@StreetInspired1 If I can save you money, my experience with the pitch stop, N transmission mount and the positive shifter bushings is that they made absolutely no difference. Still just as jerky as stock. If I were to do it again, I would not do those. In fact, I took the pitch stop off and sold it and put the OEM back on because of the NVH. Oh well, trial and error lol. Hope that helps! Though all the other mods, except for the coil overs, I find are not practical for my daily use, Im really enjoying! Love the upgrades I’ve done to the shifter and the aesthetic looks that I’ve done. No regrets there! 💪😃 I agree from what I’ve seen others do on KZfaq, a pro tune with an access port really helps smooth out the shifting. 🤞

I was one of the few that loved the VB design when it first came out. As a honda fanboy I am really itching to jump into this chassis. Seems like its a hell of a bargin for what you're getting. Im just worried from making the jump from a port injected k20 to a direct injected car. Any issues with the FA series with carbon buildup?
@StreetInspired1
@StreetInspired1 Жыл бұрын
The FA engines do have issues with carbon build up due to the direct injection. Most people will get their valves walnut blasted around 60k miles. On my old wrx I had catch cans, tgv and egr delete and flex fuel which made it stay squeaky clean. However with the the new regulations no one wants to tune a car with tgv or egr Deletes so I'm hoping this car stays clean with just my dual catch cans and E85.
@remissiveslave
@remissiveslave Жыл бұрын
@@StreetInspired1 it won't, catch cans have nothing to do with unburnt fuel in valves. Have to walnut blast them.

Great video Cody only thing I wish you would of talked about the split case 6 speed that is the same in the VB and the VA and the fact yes these VBS make great power and so do the VAS but a big part of making power with both these cars exp. The VB since we are seeing evidence that with a few bolt ons and an etune they can make close to 400WHP but a limiting factor is the junk 5 speed that Subaru added a gear too and called it a 6speed even putting an ACT or EXEDY clutch in that transmission is a major limitation to both platforms and I don’t see many people talk about this and I think we should because I feel making power on this platform a limiting factor is going to be the 6speed let’s be real for a second you can do all the modifications in the world to the WRX transmission but it will never hold the power the STI transmission does and most people who buy a WRX are going for #s I mean if you going to just drive your car to and from work everyday that is one thing but if your going to build a 400 Whp wrx that your race on the weekends or heck race at all you know as well as I do you can only launch these WRX 6 speeds so many times before it goes BOOM 💥 ANYWAY good video man i just feel a major limit on this platform as well as the previous is the transmission.
@StreetInspired1
@StreetInspired1 Жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct! Subaru had made unknown adjustments to the transmission but it's still the same crappy split case we've always had. I think they spent all their time developing the "SPT" And didn't bother upgrading the manual. It is a big let down and I do worry about the durability of the vb transmission. If I had to guess its not any stronger than the last transmission which sucks. I see a lot of blown transmissions in the future if people start pushing the limits of the FA24, because I personally grenades 2 transmissions on my FA20 cars and I know a few close friends who blew up their transmission on a stock car (one of which was only at 2k miles)

As far as handling and power goes
@AlanAnt
@AlanAnt Жыл бұрын
@@Ryan-719 I can answer because I traded my stock 2018 STI for a 2022 WRX GT. Yup. I went full SPT cringe. The VB handles better. I think the GT version probably handles a bit better than the manual version as it has the variable torque distribution which puts more power in the back by default. It also has the adjustable dampers and the Sport + mode is very stiff. It feels more like a rear drive car and will sometimes turn in more aggressively than I expect. This is my 5th WRX/STI ( 3 WRX, 2 STI) since I started buying them in 2002 and I honestly think the VB is the best handling of those I have owned. The STI was the more visceral experience; stiffer, and raw. The VB feels more sophisticated and modern. The STI had to be beat on at high RPMs to get the power out of it. Peak torque at 5200 RPM demands the driver to keep the revs up. The VB torque comes on much lower (2100 RPM, I think), so the car is always ready to power out of a corner or from a slow roll. That said the STI is faster once it gets in the power band and has more to deliver when already at speed. One is not better than the other, they are different driving experiences. I had certain expectations when trading and wanted the quicker shifting of the SPT to tackle roads like the Tail of the Dragon and Back of the Dragon, etc. I am not disappointed.
