Six young women share their journeys transitioning from chemically relaxed to natural hair, a labor of love many women in the African diaspora are familiar with. The tales are tied together with a curl-celebrating fashion shoot directed by AGCreativ.

I relate on so many levels. I went natural 4 years ago & I literally had an anxiety attack worried about what people (my people tbh) would say. But now I’ve discovered I’m a lion! I will never EVER pretend to be a domestic cat! I love me some me & hate that in my community if you don’t display any European genetics , you’re not considered to have ‘good hair’ but The Most High really took his time with us and curled each of our strands to perfection. I love that ❤

Such a great doc. I love the creativity and confidence in this video. Such a relatable topic even for someone with straight hair watching my family and close friends go through this was a much needed conversation. Love it ❤️

When I started my natural hair journey I was insecure I didn’t know what she needed and how to take care of her, I was in rotc and I was so hard to braid, detangle or put in a bun💯 I had so many anxieties that I had a bald spot😭 but now my hair is past my shoulders…. But sometimes I feel down when people look at my Afro I’m getting more confident

I never think about Mixed Race women having hair issues, I always see hair issues and the natural hair movement as a Black thing as Black women are the furthest away from the racist white supremacist beauty ideal

I saw a video where an Asian woman spoke about curly hair discrimination in the Asian community, and how "crazy" or "wild" characters on TV usually have curly hair. I had no idea the bias existed in that community also. For us here in the US and Latin America, it's definitely rooted in Eurocentric beauty standards and there's so much history behind our hair culture. I did not accept my natural hair immediately, but now I prefer it!

6:33 This is good advice for me to get used to my hair but I'm still apprehensive. My hair looks amazing at home, but in the humidity and rain of Miami, it doesn't maintain the style I put it in. 🙃

I feel you! Usually I wear half up-half down styles in humid weather when I still want to show off my volume but want to keep it neat and out of my face.

These girls have such beautiful natural hair.. it’s such a shame that at a young age we were led to believe long straight hair is the beauty standard 😳. I was 14 when I relaxed my hair.. worse thing I Eva did 🫤

“Girl, you have a lot of hair, I’d love to see it permed/relaxed. Go to the salon so you can see how it comes out.” A lot of it is the tone lol
