Just wanted to add to Mark's comment on the Seaplane Base. It is all that he said, and also a good place to get out of the sun. There are bleachers in the shade, and food available while watching the water take offs and landings.

Prepare for lots of walking (no flip flops), bring a golf umbrella for sun & rain, a small back pack for your gear & fold-up chair. Attending KOSH is the highlight of many pilots aviation life. One day is not enough.

Read the NOTAM several times. Break the frequencies down well ahead of your arrival so you know when you need to be on what. I personally camp and I prefer to go in on Saturday before the show for a good camping spot. Take a passenger who knows what to look for to help going in. I’ve gone in on Saturdays when it was super easy and no traffic. Last year was a complete zoo. It will be the most challenging airspace navigation you’ll ever have as a pilot.

I always learn something great from your convivial group. You make flying the fun thing that everyone imagines it could be.

What about for a VFR pilot with a Cherokee? From Texas. How hard would it be?

Depends on how well you do your homework. GET the NOTAM. READ the NOTAM. UNDERSTAND the NOTAM. Have the NOTAM AVAILABLE during the arrival. COMPLY with the NOTAM. Seriously, If you know the procedure and follow it, it works well and allows you to 1) Look outside the aircraft 2) Know what to expect 3) Don't talk...LISTEN. Bad weather and mass arrivals can and do stack things up so arrive with plenty of fuel and be alert. It can be fun if you know what to expect and are prepared. It can be flat out dangerous to you and others if not. If possible, have another pilot to share lookout and NOTAM duties to make it easier for you. It can be done solo but that requires even more diligence than 2 people sharing the workload.

I've been going on and off over 20 years. In last five years I've tried new things like workshops, seaplane base, warbird area tours and presentations, and the antique classic tour.
