Just got back from Japan and Kyoto was awesome! Check out the Fushimi Inari Taisha and the Kyoto Imperial Palace if you have time, both incredible! Kiyomizudera Temple and the streets leading to it are also awesome, though packed with tourists. Have fun!

Not trying to get you into any trouble but I always wondered.. how are you getting around the great firewall (vpn?) that blocks YT in China? Are you worried you might get in trouble?

My guess is, a quick google search says VPN's aren't illegal. Plus he's a business owner so there might be leeway. It's nice seeing him enjoy retirement!

Let me tell you as someone that worked in Chinese media. Most people that are internet savy have VPNs. Secondly, since he runs a business, he probably has a license for one. Pretty much every business in China is allowed a VPN. The license process is also really simple. Basically, a lot more people in China have access to the wider internet than you'd think.

VPNs are not illegal in China. Anyone who tells you they are is lying to you. You can purchase VPN services from the major telcos like China Telecom. And from licensed distributors who provide high speed VPN routers that can provide service for an entire home or business. No one has ever "got in trouble" for any of this. The only news you'll find where people are getting in trouble is where individuals set up their own VPN service and then sell it to others (setting up a remote PC outside of China and selling access to it to others). That is illegal and there have been stories of people who get in trouble for doing that. Anyway, China is fantastic, safe, and easy. We love life here.
