I was offered the chance to try a 7.5mm fisheye lens from TTArtisan. I used it for the first time in this video and after I got my head around the best way to use it I had a lot of fun with it. Who says you can't go wide on micro four thirds!

You have to try the "Laowa 6mm f/2.0 C&D-Dreamer Lens". No wide FOV with M43 systems? I don't think so. Not to mention the M.Zuiko 8mm F1.8 Fisheye, M. Zuiko 7-14mm F2.8, M. Zuiko 8-25mm F4, the LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm F4.0, Leica 9mm F1.7 lenses, along with a couple other wide angle lenses as well. Plenty of options indeed!

I’m just an amateur and had lost interest since my Nikon D5500 died. Then I discovered M43. After much thought I purchased a OM-D E-M10 Mk IV and a few used lenses. It has really sparked my interest in photography again and I think a lot of that is the size and weight of the camera and lenses. It makes it so much easier to carry a selection of lenses around to experiment with. This along with channels like yours has given me the drive to get better at photography and enjoy it. A fish eye would be an awesome addition to try out and learn more with!

Thanks Chris for the latest in your informative and enthusiastic videos. If you really want to visit the visual fifth dimension try the Meike 3.5 fish-eye. It’s a scream and loads of fun, not an everyday lens but for sheer entertainment !

That is so funny that this topic popped up. I’ve been sick as a dog last four days. And being frustrated I’m not out shooting with my new (new for me. Not so new Lumix G7) for each nicer day, spring is springing. Wide angle was the first area, wanted to concentrate on. TTA had reverse engineered a wonderful solution! Enjoyed your b & w’s. Just started with this format at the age of nearly 70, this enables me to carry on doing my favourite hobby plus keeping me fit, still living the dream, as a lot of my images are of salt flats this would make an ideal lens for this work.

Love the photos! Per your question, I would primarily use it for landscape shots but I could see it being fun for interiors and night photography as well.

Just discovered your channel. Appreciate your content. I have the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 and it serves me well. I bought it off eBay about 3 years ago for 850. Other than not being able to install filters, it is very handy out in the forests and mountains of PA.

I enjoy how you present your videos. You actually look like you are having fun with a camera and it's not even full frame! ha. Another fun thing to try is an old OM-1 film camera lens with an adapter. Also, you do an excellent job of explaining what you are seeing as a photographer. It's helpful to all of us novices out there. The widest real lens that I have is the 12-40 so the 7.5 would be fun to experiment with. If you send it my way I would even help with shipping since I live in the U.S. All the best.

Great vid, on the lens, two reasons, 1 shooting HDRI images for use in lighting 3D models. 2. Shooting bands performing on stage, so standing near the front to get the whole stage in. Normally if you stand back using a 17mm or 12mm you have the crowd jumping up and down in front of you or some really tall bloke waring a hat (normally called Dave).

Great video, Chris - loved that shot of the tree branch at the end! Picked up my first camera (Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark ii) in September with the kit zoom, and have since added a 25mm lens too. A big factor in picking the camera was down to how it looked and how it made me feel when I'm shooting. It's a camera with a lot of character, and this lens looks like it would be a fitting companion. Lots of brilliant photographers to choose from in the comments though - hope whoever gets is has great fun with it!

Will definitely get this lens. I’m moving to full frame mirrorless but I’m keeping my Olympus E-M1 Mark III that I got for $600 USD and the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 and Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro but will get the TTArtisan 7.5mm to have an ultra wide angle lens that’s reasonably priced. I’ll be selling my Panasonic Leica 8-18mm, 25mm II, and 42.5mm f/1.2. I still want to have my MFT camera whenever I want to relive my early years in photography and relive my time with MFT. So that’s why I’m keeping my cheap Olympus camera and my 2 most used lenses but will add this one to have an ultra wide prime at hand. Ultra wide isn’t cheap on full frame so this will be my alternative for the time being. Great video and love the pictures you get using even lower budget combos like the E-M5 Mark II and 14-42mm kit lens. That was literally what I started out with in late 2017 before I bought the 12-40mm 2.8 Pro. Definitely takes me back to my early days 😊

I like the EM5 with the kit lens, it is one of those combinations that just work. It’s actually my video setup now as the lens has the focal length to cover most of what I need. I do however completely agree about it being a budget combo. The EM1 Mark ii and 12-40 Pro feel like a completely different world and the image quality is fantastic. I never got along with full frame mirrorless. I think in part because I grabbed the “budget” Canon RP.

@@ChrisBaitson my first camera was the E-M5 Mark II with that same kit lens. It did surprisingly well with the high resolution mode. But I was fortunate enough to get the wise advice of “quality glass matters the most” very early and that’s why I saved up for the 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro as my first lens since that kit lens was included with my camera for free by the seller. I also had a Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 as my fast prime. But as soon as I got the 12-40mm f/2.8 I saw right away why people say that quality glass in front of a budget camera is a game changer. I was blown away by how good that lens was and simply couldn’t believe my eyes when using it and editing the pictures on my computer. MFT has made such a lasting impression on me that even though I’m switching to Leica full frame with the Leica M10 and SL system, I’m still keeping my $600 E-M1 Mark III and my 2 favorite lenses, the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 and 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro. It’ll be with me for life basically and I know it’ll still be kicking for many years. Though I cannot wait to get this lens, will be fun to use for sure. I mostly use 8mm on my Leica 8-18mm so I think I will enjoy it and it’ll be a smaller setup than having that big zoom lens on the camera.

Interesting video, and a fascinating lens from TT Artisans. Laowa make a 7.5mm rectilinear for micro four thirds. Bit pricey for a manual lens, but no bulbous front element, and filter threads on the front. No distortion as you'd get with a fisheye lens. I've been tempted, but can't justify the cost for the amount of time I would shoot ultrawide. My main lenses for my EM1ii are the 12-40 f2.8 Pro, 40-150 f2.8 Pro, 17mm f1.8, 25mm f1.2 Pro and 75-300mm f4.8-6.7. I do like the idea of dabbling with some wide angle shooting. It's certainly good to see more people coming on board with M43, it's a good system with many merits. Like any camera, they are a tool for a job. That said, I think the EM1ii/iii/X/OM1 are superb allrounder cameras. My EM1ii is still my go to camera the majority of the time over my 5D and 6D.

Can't wait for the weather to get a bit warmer (maybe as soon as this weekend), seems like the cool weather is hanging around longer this year (west coast Canada) I love hiking, getting out in the back country hence my choice in choosing the mFT system. My widest focal length is 12mm (12-40 zoom) and have been considering getting something wider for some landscape shots, a 7.5mm would fit the bill nicely. As usual a fun and informative Video Chris.

It took me a while to figure out how to best use it. Angling it down to stretch things out isn’t going to work but getting low and level seems fine. I needed something to cover losing the 16-35 Canon and then kind of realised how much I don’t use ultra wide 😆

I don't know if the giveaway is still on... but just in case... I always wanted the Laowa 7.5, but this one seems the give really good results... Once, a friend lent me a Olympus 9mm f8.0, I really enjoyed it... although it wasn't sharp at all and the fixed aperture didn't give much play either... I would love to have this TTArtisan lens!!! Wish me luck!!! 😅

You might want to try the SLR Magic 8mm f4 mft lens. I got it a few weeks ago and really like it. Its not a fisheye lens.

NICE video, as usual! I too abandoned Canon FF for Olympus MFT. I actually ordered an f2 10mm Laowa lens, but after a long wait it still hadn’t shown up, so I cancelled the order, and, wait for it…….I ordered an Olympus 75-300mm lens which I’m picking up today. But I still have a strong desire to explore ultra wide. I think when needed, for real estate photography, this lens when defished, would likely render a 9-10mm equivalent. This lens would be a great performer. (Any thoughts of exploring the 75-300mm for you?)

While I wouldn't want to carry only and ultra-wide, they enable shots impossible to get with longer FLs. love my Laowa 6mm rectilinear and considered getting the 4mm fisheye, but the lack of filter compatibility put me off (plus I find a true fisheye's circular frame and extreme distortion a bit gimmicky). Interesting approach on this lens with the ND but I'm more concerned with a C-PL. I'm also a bit confused, as I see claims of 180° AoV for this lens, but it's clearly less than that (the Laowa's supposed 122° would exceed that of the not-quite-as-wide TTA). Certainly, the TTA has an attractive price point and seems to render reasonably well (as far as I can tell given YT display limitations), and you've got some nice shots with it, but I think the Laowa has the edge in most regards (sharper, lower distortion, contacts to allow on-camera control of aperture and EXIF data, plus great build quality), albeit at a bit higher (but still reasonable) price. Plus, it's even smaller, opens to f/2, and has great diffraction spikes if you stop down, and it's of course even wider. I thought my Leica 8-18 was wide enough, until I tried the 6mm--surprising what a difference 15° makes!

ND filter on a such a wide lens, interesting. Wonder how's it going to perform in a war photography role. Only mft wide angle lenses I've used were Panny and Oly kit lenses.

Hi Chris I’ve subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago and at that time I was thinking of going to full frame infact I had picked the camera Niko Z 7 I thought this would be better for me, but since I’ve been watching you videos I’ve released it’s not my Olympus Om D 1 mark 3 it’s me not using it correctly. I’ve realised how great these Olympus cameras are. Thank goodness for your videos which I must say are a great inspiration keep up the good work. I did not know you could get a ND filter for the 7.5 mm lence which you can screw on the back I’m going to look at investing in one of them. Better to have one for free please put me in your lucky dip and if I don’t win I’m getting one anyway with the ND filter Im really enjoying your channel I’ve taken your ideas done them myself and my photos are getting better very happy with my M43 kind regards Stephen

I using this lens to take interior photo. This lens have a big problem of gosting in high contrast scenes after aperture f4. Mostly on high bright objects like interior lights.

Hello Chris. Why a wide angle lens? Well, my favourite Olympus lens is the 12-100 and it rarely leaves the front of my E-M1 mkiii. However, a photobuddy of mine swears by his wider lenses in the landscape and frequently teases me about the x2 crop factor and that 12 is actually 24 etc etc. So, what I've like to do is prove to myself and my photobuddy that I can create compelling images in the landscape using a lens wider than 12(24). Simple reason really. Chuffed that you are enjoying your switch, and safe shooting sir

It's 15mm equivalent so more it's more an wide angle lens i real fish eye is more 8-10mm so you would need an 3.5 to 5mm mft lens

The lens is physically a 7.5mm just gives a cropped field of view equivalent to that of a 15mm lens. It’s a fish eye.

I used to years ago. I’ve since gotten lazy and I like to be warm on a night now. I do miss it. Just hard to make video is the pitch black.
