This song is an end of the album slow burner. Definitely not the song I'd show to someone to introduce the band. Check out that whole album, the one after that and the one after that... and the one after that. You're gonna love it. Their first two albums are cool too though, but From Mars to Sirius is where they get their monstrous sound. Do it!

From the description on the original video and it tells everything. "A few weeks ago, we played Global Warming together for the first time since the recording of From Mars To Sirius (2004). We never played it live before, as it is a challenging one to play, and place in a set list. It’s emotionally heavy, and would almost “hurt” the rest of the songs in a way. We just really wanted to do this on camera for our fans. Global warming is a reality and a relevant topic, we feel it’s good to be reminded of one of the most important challenges of our time: How to grow as a species without being a parasite to our planet, the only home we have. “We will see our children growing” is a mantra for future generations, and in a figurative way we hope the children in all of us will grow, evolve, and take action for a more compassionate and meaningful world. "

No, it isn't heavier on the album version. This is a progressive album and has a theme throughout it, and this is the gentle last song.

This song is basically one long outro for the album. Which is a themed concept record. Better digested when you listen to the entire album as a whole. They had never played this song live until this video... because it’s very technical. While Gojira has their roots in death metal, they aren’t afraid to venture out into new territory. And that’s part of their unique greatness.

This is the final track from their masterpiece, From Mars to Sirius. Compared to the the rest of the album, this is a mellow way to finish it off. Heaviest Matter is much as the title suggests. Try In the Wilderness off the same album. Or Backbone. Or From the Sky. Or Where Dragons Dwell. Or everything else. This album is a masterpiece... but it’s a complete work from beginning to end... this song is contextual. It ends with the very strong conviction that we will overcome the damage we’ve done to the planet. “We will see our children growing”. You two owe yourselves a complete listen, outside of KZfaq. And then listen again, and again. Dive into the lyrics.

hello guys , greetings from bora bora , i just discovered your channel and was quite happy you tried to get into this incredible band that is Gojira ( and i'm not saying that because i'm french ... well maybe ). gojira came from death metal but evolved quickly to something different and "unique" , you can call it "prog" but even that would be incomplete . anyway if you want heavy stuff from them try "remembrance" from their 2nd album (The Link ) or "the heaviest matter of the universe" from their 3rd ( From Mars to Sirius ) and if you prefer something more "prog" check out their latest album Magma and tracks like "stranded" or "pray" - and YES you're right , they've got A LOT OF GREAT SONGS !!! hope you'll get back to them soon ; they deserve it - bye for now - Ia Orana

7:00 - Gojira, new band? They've been around for almost 20 years! ; ) Btw, the Silver Cord Studio is the Duplantier brother's (Joe, the singer/lead guitar and Mario, the drummer) own studio. The problem, Wolf, like we've seen in so many reactions, is that the suggestion fails to show the reactors what the band is about because it's too personal for the person who suggested it. This way the suggester is doing a disfavor to the band and creating a "wrong" image in the reactor's mind. Oh, well... : | Don't think that we only have to act for the future generations' sake, Wolf, because if we don't act NOW, your generation (and even mine, and I'm older than you) will also suffer from it.

Looking threw the comments i would say pick one of the more requested Gojira songs to revisit, the death metal element is more apparent in most of there music. Joe still has a surprisingly clear/understandable scream/growl so the point of the songs still comes across. The have some crazy heavy tracks, and (your talking about been distracted by Mario's drumming as a write this) some of the drumming is other worldly (Heaviest matter of the universe live, or Mario's drum solo's). There like Tool in the sense that there easy to listen to, and yet can make you think for hours, very simple and complex at the same time. And infront of an audience, something else entirely live.

this band is so awesome, their style of creating music is out of this world. I get goosebumbs every time I listen to one of their songs. Sadly, they do not play this song here live, because I read in an article that they said the topic of the song is too sad and they would get too emotional by playing it.

They are pretty long overdue for Wintersun; however, I am pretty sure they are already planning on doing Sons of Winter and Stars since that is what everyone (like always) has been asking them to do for a while now. I would personally love to see them react to something off of the newest Rivers of Nihil album (The Silent Life or Where Owls Know My Name), arguably one of the best metal releases last year. I guess it won't matter until someone on their Patreon requests it.

Hey Guys. Gojira is one of my favorite bands of today. First got into them back in '05 when a friend (Adam P.) played me the From Mars To Sirius lp. I was hooked and have been ever since. This is not my favorite tune, but a good one, nonetheless. Great rhythm changes and breakdowns. Musicianship is unparalleled. As far as GENRE, that tune isn't particularly death metal. I consider it Heavy prog-metal. But I hate genres anyway, so lets just call it rock n roll. Please Wolf, get out of your own way and enjoy the song. Screw the labels. Do you like it or not? If it was introduced to you under a more correct moniker, would you like or dislike it more? But who am I? This week in the mail, I got some Platters, Drifters, Coasters, Temptations, Supremes (A Motown kick, I know), Arcade's 1st lp, Johnny Cash, Three Days Grace's 3rd cd, Oasis, Lamb Of God, James Brown Live At The Apollo '95, Carmine Appice Project, Cave In, 3 Inches Of Blood, Steve Miller Band, Machine Head, Ice Cube's Greatest Hits, and Punisher Warzone soundtrack. What do they all have in common? They're all rock n roll to me! lmfao, I drink too much. BTW, Heaviest Matter RULZ! Flying Whales!!!! Love the reactions! Keep up the good work. Peace!

That this song is not the most "heavy" does not mean that it is not good. On an emotional and lyrical level it seems to me of the most heartrending songs of Gojira. It seems that you do not like a song just because it is not "heavy".

This band is better live than their studio recordings in my opinion, I mean that to be a compliment. In the metal world, that is saying something. I'm sure fellow Gojira fans will back me up on that. This song is a masterpiece. It's an art piece meant to convey a certain message. Every band likes to create contrast. If every song was heavy as hell the definition of heavy would fall out the window, no?

This could be one of their outlier songs. Have a little of the essence but not the full identity

Gojira is not death metal at all. (They do have certain death elements, for sure though. They have A LOT of Morbid Angel's 2nd, 3rd and 4rth albums in their sound -WRT guitar sound. ) They're their own thing, which is why they're so unique. This record flows from one song to the next. This song was just the end part of the song before it, basically.

Although gojira is great live. I would suggest listening to the album versions first. Also, flying whales is a good song. But also not one of thier best. Something like the gift of guilt is a better representation of who they are

Everyone wants to call Gojira Death Metal. No. You're wrong. Depending on which album you listen to, they alternate back and forth, between life, death, and even in between. They have a whole album about Astral Projection. From Mars to Sirius. As a matter of fact this song came from that very album. Hell, in some albums they even combine both life and death. And in some they even go as far as to transcend death to speak to the other side. Gojira is unlike any band I've ever experienced and if I could relive my first time experiencing them I'd give anything in the world. Their words are not just words. They're warnings of death and what lies after. They're one of the only ones who openly talk about how we're destroying our own planet and then sing about it in their songs. It's sad. This planet deserves better.

To me, the guitar sounds represents an alarm going off. This doesn't really give the best representation of their sound. you need to listen to the Gift of guilt, Silvera, heaviest matter of the universe, flying whales, art of dying, or literally any of the other songs. Please react to gift of guilt live in London, fuckin amazing. don't get me wrong, i love this song, but its not their heaviest song. Please more Gojira.

Whoever recommended this song for their first Gojira experience needs shooting. Flying Whales The Heaviest Matter of the Universe Art of Dying L'Enfant Sauvage Stranded Silvera Where Dragons Dwell The Gift Of Guilt Toxic Garbage Island Esoteric Surgery Explosia Any of those is a much better introduction.
