I don't share the same opinion with most of the comments here, I actually think that global warming is one of Gojira's best/unique songs and they did a truly amazing job with this live performance. For a song to be good, it doesn't need to be necessarily "heavy". I also don't agree that the song is not "complex". Maybe it doesn't feel that way compared to their other works but actually even band members stated that it is a challenging one to play and that is one of the reasons why they don't prefer to perform it live. And I need to add that lyrics are very relevant to the current situation of the world and so powerful.

Yes exactly. And to add to that is the subject matter, global warming. This song reflects the struggle to make the world accept it and start working to negate it. It has been going on for a long time, the persistence of those who want to make a change going up against the wall of those turning a blind eye. It has been a nagging process, chipping away at the deniers, and it becomes more and more frustrated and angry as time goes by. Just as this song is built. It's not supposed to change, it has a clear message and it's right in itself.

The song is a bitch to play. I can play most songs of Gojira on guitar but this one is harder then as an example Heaviest Matter Of The Universe. This song has a special place in my hart due to the lyrics and the overall beauty of the song itself. I learned to love it more when learning to play it.

This song always makes me cry...it is so emotional, they captured very well that feeling of anger about this topic, one of my fav songs of Gojira, that melody with the bass at the end it´s so so good.

I don't know how people can say this isn't on the same tier as flying whales or heaviest matter... Most of their discography is in the same tier.

This is a special moment here; They will never play this live but because of the fans and so on, they decided to do a studio "live" session... Here is why: A few weeks ago, we played Global Warming together for the first time since the recording of From Mars To Sirius (2004). We never played it live before, as it is a challenging one to play, and place in a set list. It’s emotionally heavy, and would almost “hurt” the rest of the songs in a way. We just really wanted to do this on camera for our fans. Global warming is a reality and a relevant topic, we feel it’s good to be reminded of one of the most important challenges of our time: How to grow as a species without being a parasite to our planet, the only home we have. “We will see our children growing” is a mantra for future generations, and in a figurative way we hope the children in all of us will grow, evolve, and take action for a more compassionate and meaningful world.

I know what you mean about the lack of evolution within the song but I find the whole thing mesmerising to listen to. You get comfortable hearing the riff and almost don’t want it to end...kinda like how dance music repeats a lot and last forever (even though I’m not a fan of that style)

The reason why I like Gojira is because of how each album has a different sound.. You can hear them evolve into a different sound in each album, and that to me is a testament to their musicianship. I mean, there’s no doubt they can play complex, heavy, polyrhythmic, death metal type shit.. that’s a given! If you want that, then listen to some of the older shit from their Terra Incognita or The Link album. They are extremely talented, don’t give up on them so easily. They remind me of Pantera in the sense of evolving sounds. Every Pantera album was unique and different in it’s own way, and I fucking loved Pantera for that. Getcha Pull!

I can define them as Mantric Death Metal. Repetition is one of their main musical resources. If you listen to their discography, you can find the fussion they perform with sounds and structures that remembers to Oriental music. I really believe they try to get the spectators to something like a trance-state of mind. You probably can perceive Gojira's music in a new way, far from boreness but very profound and spiritual :)

You ought to give them another chance, as this really isn’t the best song for someone who hasn’t heard a lot of their music... I recommend you give Born in Winter (another of their “mellow” - although in my opinion much better - songs) or for some heavier stuff, The Art of Dying, Oroborus, Explosia, L’Enfant Sauvage or The Gift of Guilt a listen!

Not a massive fan of Gojira, my friends love the band and I listen to them all the time. But as a singer there is just something about his voice that doesn't change and when you listen to album after album it all get a bit samey. I agree that this song was a bit too long and could have had another riff or two in there. Sorry Gojira fans, don't think I haven't had an earful from my friends I said the same thing to them about this band. But it would be boring if we all liked the same music. Keep making these videos Jim. :)

I think recognizing that part of what Gojira is going for a is a bit of a droney/hypnotic effect helps to understand the lack of "evolution" in some of their music sometimes. That being said, I do agree that this song is much too long and could have used more of a written ending to punctuate the repetitive bit.

I respectfully disagree. Joe screaming "we will see out children growing" is the perfect end to an album imploring the listener to take note of the damage we're doing to the world, and how positive change could still save the world we share. Can absolutely see that point of view though, and as a standalone song this perhaps goes on too long. In the context however, it's a masterpiece and the perfect ending FMTS needed.

Haha! Yup, I guessed I was going to get some negative response to this video. One of the cornerstones of my channel is that I'll listen to absolutely anything and try to find the positive in all I hear. But I'm also going to be completely honest with my own thoughts and commentary. What is so amazing about art is that it speaks to the observer in a very personal way, all art is experienced as interpretation. Music is absolutely art. Everyone experiences it differently. I'm not judging anything I listen to, I'm expressing how I feel about it. I'm happy that this speaks to you in a way it doesn't to me. Thanks for watching and commenting matey, sorry I didn't enjoy this as much as you did. I'll certainly try again! Jim 😁
