I'm not sure why it's so satisfying watching you enjoy a song I've been listening to for ages, but I'm glad you dug them! The sound they have definitely changes, I'd say From Mars to Sirius and The Way of All Flesh are my favorites. If you like this SYL style of punishment, Backbone off From Mars to Sirius or All the Tears (which got a music video) from The Way of All Flesh would be perfect.

Hi Jim, I haven’t listened to Gojira more than maybe ten minutes in total. I was so surprised about the in your face brutal sounds and attitude. Before this I was listening to Nick Johnston. Guitar driven instrumental music, great melodies and touch and tasteful professional playing. The contrast from Johnston to Gojira made me jump up 😊 But if you feel up to give it a go with Nick Johnston it would be great. Maybe track ”Remarkably Human” or some other track from the album.

Goodmorning Jim, So I'm not over the top a fan like many are today for the band, but THIS album is by FAR my fave Gojira album as to me, represented what they are all about. The beginning of the song always reminded me of Morbid Angel (one of the early preveyors of Death Metal and the "Florida Death Metal Scene"): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6qhprhqz9ysfWg.html Another of the same scene - mid to later years of "Death" (those proggy Death Metal odd-meter, polymetered riffs) and swedes Meshuggah, which all Gojira are influenced by. The next albums "The Way of All Flesh" and "L'Enfant Sauvage" are also really good. That "WeoooW!" sound during the guitar riffs are muting the strings on the frets, and taking the pick to the side, and wiping the strings upward from the high to lower strings above the pickups quickly. The 1st time I heard that was back in 1995 and the debut album of _Nevermore_ and Jeff Loomis insane guitar solo on "Sea of Possibilities": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f6hkpsWArpy-nKs.html So, that brings me to suggest . . . *Meshuggah* - "Future Breed Machine" which is featured on my essay that I shared with you. MANY fans of the band will most likely choose other tracks and albums. But THIS is the album that got me into them, and it only took 2 minutes-in to be floored. The main reason I love it so much is that, its taking that "groove" of Pantera (during that time where they were getting HUGE), that "4/4" timing, but turning it on its ear. Its what Meshuggah madly do _WITHIN_ that 4/4 that puts them on another level of Metal. Each member takes turns being the "percussive" instrument. At times Tomas Haake is the "Lead Instrument" playing more like a Metal version of Jazz/Fusion on the Drums. And then Fredrik Thordendal, the Lead and 2nd Rhythm Guitarist in the "Solo", all the sudden, its as if Jazz/Fusion great "Allan Holdsworth" comes in to do the solo, and Haake becomes a Fusion drummer quietly adding accents to the solo, and then . . . Well, see/hear for yourself (please go with the "Studio" track 1st to absorb the amazing musicianship of each band member) 1995: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htV4lJdp0dfXoXk.html Lyrics: genius.com/Meshuggah-future-breed-machine-lyrics I still listen to this album (and others) on a regular basis. Meshuggah's music is like a Tank thrown against a 747 by a giant robot that is being shot at by an A-10 Warthog . . . yeah, I think that describes them best :P. If you do like it and slowly become a Meshugganer, I'll suggest a Live track and Video ;). Oh, by the way, the vocalist "Jens Kidman" is not human, he's a T-800 Terminator (you'll see eventually what I mean "live") :D.

Hey, I can't possibly reply in a worthy manner to that comment! Suffice to say, thank you for this. Meshuggah.... I am aware, am I ready? Not sure! Nervously backs away...... ;) Seriously though, I probably ought to check them out properly. Thanks again! Jim

Haha . . . I don't think people were ready for them in 1995 :D! I was, but you'll read about how I received that particular album on the blog. Amazing band and album, not for the faint hearted. But if ever Progressive Metal, Death Metal and Math eQuations CRASHED together, that album was "one" of its preveyors. You'll find more at that blog ;).

Gojira is incredibly heavy. But in my opinion nowhere near the intensity of the album King by Fleshgod Apocalypse. The only word I could use to describe that entire album is "Oppressive" (preface: From what I have seen I don't think you'd like them due to the typical deathmetal vocals. But all the symphonic elements might make up for it. If you do give them a listen I'd recommend starting with the song Gravity)
