genos is the real shonen protagonist in opm. -he has a tragic backstory that still drives him today -he has a unique, edgy design and many named attacks -he has a hero mentality, and willing to sacrifice himself to save others -he gets stronger after each fight -he can easily gain recognition, friends and allies. even tatsumaki has acknowledged him which is a huge feat in itself. the issue is he showed up in episode 2. level 1 genos showed up but the enemies were already level 2. like imagine goku just wasnt there to fight piccolo, die, and train with king kai. instead his first appearance is against nappa and vegeta. no kaioken, no 9001 power level. he gets f ed up THEN trains with king kai, so now hes strong enough to beat vegeta...except now he is up against frieza and hasnt unlocked super sayain...

The fact that people think All Might could possibly defeat either of these men is insane.

I find Scaling characters like Saitama is quite difficult when they’ve only fought other things that quale in true comparison to their own character. E.g: Asriel. He is the GOD OF HYPERDEATH but the only person he’s ever fought was a child (tbf that child had some sort of time reset with the whole save files thing, it’s complicated). If it still doesn’t make sense, Picture this: A god named “Bob” who can do anything he likes squashes a caterpillar, while another person named “Fred” kills a cow. A cow is stronger than a caterpillar so does that mean Fred (who has only beaten a cow) could defeat Bob (who has only squashed a caterpillar)? The answer is, probably not.

I know this video is a bit older now but... I think this was a very fair assessment. Saitama written to his most absurd rendition I believe is truly terrifying especially now that we have seen god enhanced garou deploy space time interactions against saitama and was nullified but what I'm going to call reality warping taijutsu. Murata and one are actually shaping new realities for our minds to be blown in. We don't give enough credit to Dragonball because the balls themselves are too hax. If we remember the Z arc where Goku literally dies and Gohan transcends Goku's feats to defeat cell (as many of us remember as the best z arc). During this time... This was the first time this concept was ever featured. The main character was actually superseded in power by an ally. I dare say we allowed ourselves to say yeah in that moment Gohan was stronger than Goku. Whether it's true or not doesn't matter, it drew a dramatic effect that really changed the mentality of how stories could be written. I believe one punch is on a similar trajectory, where we are in for a ride to be shown... It's not our intent just for Saitama to display more feats but rather the thrill of an event so enjoyable it may introduce a new concept we never even fathomed in our minds. I truly think opm deserves full credit to the kind of genre that it's presented as. Hopefully this video sways a bigger audience to it if anything.

Knowing what I know about the character I find the "who would win against Saitama" debate odd. The character is WRITTEN to be the STRONGEST of his universe and that is _depressing_ for him. It would be awesome if Goku could introduce him to UI or Superman could run a couple circles around his serious series. The character would enjoy that, and that's really what makes the whole conversation pointless. He'd have fun and be cool about losing, so why even argue?

I always had a theorize that the reason Santana was strong was because he wanted it. It's not the training but what the training proved. That he would do anything for the power. And I think their are a lot of other instances in OPM where characters really want something, get a sort of fire in their eye, then get that thing.

Summary: For now Goku wins because of better feats, we need to wait for Saitama's story to end to finally understand who wins

I know this video is outdated, but I'll say it anyways. The "Saitama has no limits" argument is actually valid, because the concept of limits in dragon ball and one punch man are very different. Limiters are described as actual physical restrictors in One Punch Man, that were placed by God so that beings don't lose their mind with power. This means that once a being reaches their limiter, they strictly cannot go beyond that point, no matter how hard. They. Try. Saitama, however, somehow broke through that limiter, which means he can keep growing infinitely as he continues his training regimen, and that is what we call "infinite potential". This is further emphasized when he fought Cosmic Garou who had the power of god, the creator of all existence in one punch man, and despite that, he was able to grow exponentially during that fight leaving Garou way far behind, so it's not that he is at his endgame, he doesn't "have" and endgame to begin with. Goku, on the other hand, does have a physical limit. In super hero, in the manga (the main canon btw), Vegeta has stated that both him and Goku have reached their physical limit, and what they have to do now is to learn to harness it to fully squeeze 100% of their power, hence proving Goku wasn't breaking any limits to begin with, he just didn't reach it yet.

One Punch Man is an excellent subversion of the Shonen genre. I'm honestly really impressed with the author's ability to pull something like this off in such a compelling way.

The logic behind shonen MC going back to their old enemies and they would literally just one hit them because they've grown so much is false. That would only be true if the enemy is not growing as well. But we've seen growths from ex enemies like Android 17 who goes toe to toe with Goku blue or Gaara who also were a lot stronger than he was still a kid.
