Take your jewelry skills up a notch and work in gold! In this 3-part series, studio jeweler and educator Paulette Werger joins us to demo three different ways to bezel set your stones and cabochons in gold.
Here in Part 1, Paulette demonstrates how to choose and read your stones and decide the right bezel type before showing us how to make a gold open back bezel with step. Tools and materials used in this demo are listed down below.

Is the stone adhered to the bezel in anyway? Or is just a friction/tight fit?

I read somewhere that it is not necessary to use borax when soldering on coal, as coal when heated gives off carbon, which does not allow the metal to oxidize.

Great video! This is very helpful. Once you place your stone into place at the end should you be pressing the gold edges down onto the cab?

Absolutely great video.❤ Just one question … when you are working with a rectangular stone do you use “round wire” or “square wire” for the bearing/step?
