How to Solder a 22k Gold Bezel to a Gold Back Sheet : Make a Bezel Setting -Soldering a bezel down to a back sheet is something you need to do often in the studio to make a bezel setting, so it pays to know the fastest and easiest methods of jewelry soldering. Although my example is 22k gold, making a bezel setting uses exactly the same jewelry soldering techniques whether goldsmithing or silversmithing. Speeding up the jewelry soldering you do often to make a bezel setting and minimizing your clean up will pay large dividends in your jewelry making practice.
If you want to learn everything about how to solder jewelry like a Rock Star, please consider reading my book,
Soldering Demystified, available on my tools site

You are so welcome! It is essential to test everything to know what REALLY works. Metalsmiths deserve the best information, not urban legends of the studio. :)

Jeanette, I have your book and love it. Sometimes I just look at the luscious photos! I am wondering: What thickness of gold are your bezel and back sheet? Thanks for the video! It's very clear and concise.

Hi Deanna! I am so glad that you are enjoying my book. :) My bezels are pretty much always 26 gauge. My backsheets are usually 26 gauge, unless I have a specific reason I need it be be thicker, like a large stone on a ring or something like that. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I’m making a bail for a guy at work. I’m training myself on how to work on gold jewelry. Watching videos and training myself is the only way I’ll get through this because I’m too old to go to school. Ha ha ha ha ha.

Don’t worry, gold works very similarly to silver. It really isn’t all that different. 😃

@@JewelryArts So it won't leave a noticeable colour difference due to the difference in carat? Thanks for the reply by the way, you have no idea how handy it is having such a high level professional that I can ask for advice.
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 2 жыл бұрын
@@kellickforge There is a definite color difference. I usually start with 20k soft but when I am at the stage of soldering jumprings on, or a shank to a bezel, I use the 18k soft. I am glad the advise is helpful! :)

@@wendyshaw6985 I know the office is closed for a couple of days but you can email Tevel at allcrafttools@yahoo.com to arrange for your gold or call him (afternoons are best) at 212 279-7077 Myton Toback is fine for solder but I wouldn't buy my 22k gold there, it won't fuse. :)
