The price of gold has experienced a breakout over the past month and a half.

Excellent discussion. I wish more people were aware of the manpower including engineering manpower shortages in mining. Along with fighting the “dirty industry” negative reputation of the mining industry. Most of the jobs, even engineering jobs are at the mine sites in the middle of the desert in Nevada or Arizona with a 2-4 hour drive to get to the closest Walmart!

I bought ASA in '19@$8 and sold at $22 a couple years back, so I had a nice return. I'm an old man nowadays, but I've started to buy it again with the expectation that my uninterested spouse will be making 'sell' decisions. I told her to sell when the stock price converges with the NAV or gets very close (it would mean a good size gold bubble has formed--to my mind; and one will form someday). So I use the discrepancy between NAV and share price as a timing indicator.

Some simple math. If Gold is $2400, a gold to silver ratio of 60 nets $40 silver. At a 65 ratio, it’s $37 silver. At $50 silver, a 65 ratio nets $3,250 Gold.

How do you track hedging of production in this industry? Without going through all the earnings reports, is there a relatively easy way to track these numbers for the miners? Probably not...

At some point you will start to see people selling digital tokens and buy gold and silver with it. Holding wealth with your own bare hands and out of the System is becoming increasingly important. Government balance sheets and the geopolitical environment are signaling trouble. Inflation is a byproduct of central banks abusing their money printing presses.

The capital costs of new mines is so great and take so many years to complete, that by the time it is completed, the company has either sold off future production or buried in debt payments. The exploration companies produce only one thing... SHARES! They are 1 in 10,000 lottery tickets at best.

What is the deficit of silver? There leaving out military consumption #silver The silver market is forecast to remain in a deficit (total supply less demand) in 2024, marking the fourth consecutive year of a structural market deficit. Although this year's deficit is expected to ease by 9 percent to 176 Moz (194 Moz in 2023), it will still be exceptionally high by historical standards.Jan 30, 2024

In the past, Silver was a monetary metal, just like gold. Today it is very far from being so. So why would historical ratio be relevant in any way shape or form?

The real estate market in China is messy. But the equity market in China is actually bottoming. The Chinese government just rolled out policies that benefits the equity market in the long term, kind of like what Japanese are doing. It's a very good entry point right now into Chinese market, IMO.

The Hang seng is down 45% from all time highs. It MAY be a good time to buy, but if it turns out that China goes unstable and has an internal power struggle, foreign equity holders are the very first people to get their assets seized and liquidated by any government under stress. Absolutely do not think of the hang seng as the S&P 500. Completely different animal with regards to your rights as a foreign stockholder.

Bookmarking the tickers: 46:00 ONZ (gold ounces) 1:05:14 ASA (gold miners) ONZ not really addressed. ASA explained as performing a careful selection from small projects toward getting them producing and hooked into the automatic flows the market gives the mid sized and large projects, if I understood somewhere close to right.
