Golden Book Video logo history (1985 - 1996)

I'm surprised nobody tried this yet.
NOTE: This does NOT cover any of the "Golden Books Family/Home Entertainment" logos from 1997-2008. This is only for back when the company was known as Golden Book Video.
The logos in order of appearance:
Golden Book Video opening 1.0: Used from the company's debut in 1985 to mid-1986, featuring a more simplistic Moog synthesizer fanfare (an altered version of the KPM music cue "Prestige Logo (a)" by Paddy Kingsland.)
Golden Book Video opening 2.0: Same as the previous version, but with a more refined synth theme (most likely an original composition, replacing the first theme due to music rights). Used from late 1986 up until 1995-1996.
GoldenVision opening: Used on their "general entertainment" videos from 1987 to 1991, most famously "Dinosaurs: A Fun-Filled Trip Back in Time" and their Cloris Leachman Schoolhouse Rock videos.
Standard closing logo: Seen on several videos from 1985, and most releases from 1986 to 1996; just a still logo with no music.
Alternate closing logo 1: Silent again, but the Golden Book Video logo slowly zooms in from the distance until it nearly crashes into the screen. This was so far only used on "Three Hugga Bunch Stories" from 1985.
Alternate closing logo 2: Same as the standard closing, except at the beginning it spins into view like a spinning newspaper screen, then resumes as normal.
Outer space closing logo: This one's self-explanatory. :) Seen on a handful of 1985 releases, such as the He-Man ones, "3 Richard Scarry Animal Nursery Tales" and "Herbert the Timid Dragon and Other Tales / 3 Mercer Mayer Stories." It also made a surprise appearance at the end of the 1993 "Commander Toad in Space" VHS. In Canada this was used as an alternate opening logo with a voiceover in 1986, for Canada-exclusive releases.

I have two tapes from this series use to watch them at my late grandmothers house in 1989. Also had several books in this series. Seeing the tapes and these logos brings back memories of a simpler time so thank you for sharing this with us.

I remember seeing this on my Golden Book Beauty and the Beast tape, as well as my brother's Toxic Crusaders tape. ^^ The first logo always looked so gorgeous to me.

I had maybe a couple Golden Book Video tapes as a kid, one was a Sesame Street storybook tape and was my first introduction to Super Grover and the other was Get Ready for School with character designs from Richard Scarry, I believe. Watched the latter quite a bit as a wee tot.

I’m not a fan of the series, but my first Golden Book Video VHS I got is volume 1 of “My Little Pony” G1, the first of 8 volumes in the series featuring episodes from the original animated TV series.

All 8 volumes of “My Little Pony” G1 VHS doesn’t have the “Space” variant. I did checked the closing since I got my first of 8 volumes of MLP G1 VHS that there was no “Space” variant, just a still logo.

There was a time when Golden Book Video VHS tapes were sold in toy stores like Toys R Us, Kay-Bee and a few others, and these were used in schools or at a local library, and video rental stores back in the day didn’t put out the Golden Book Video tapes for rental, they usually belonged to schools and libraries where kids can watch them.

Yeah; Golden Book Video tapes also usually cost around $10, and this was back when videocassettes were pretty expensive!

@@ZakWolf That’s right! And guess what? I got two “My Little Pony” G1 VHS tapes and they were made by Golden Book Video. These are two of the 8 volumes in the series. I have volume 1 and volume 6. I ordered a few more from eBay over the weekend and there will be more on the way.

For me, I would hold up a Space Ghost plush and go "Yeah! It's the Space logo! SPAAAAAACE GHOOOOOOOST... whoops!!" And have Hatsune Miku (one of my favorite plushes I own) go "Seriously?" afterwards.

I got volume 1 of “My Little Pony” VHS off of eBay which contains “The Golden Horseshoes” and “The Prince and the Ponies”. I did checked the opening and BINGO! The Golden Book Video logo is in there. And after that, the MLP intro came on. This is my first Golden Book Video I own and the first of 8 volumes of MLP G1 VHS tapes. I did checked the closing, it has the copyright notice screens and the Golden Book Video short logo, no “Space” variant.

Appeared on “Madeline and the Toy Factory - Golden Book Video/DiC Video - Narrated by Christopher Plummer” (white tape w/ ink label) I am getting “Madeline and the Gypsies” on VHS as much as “Madeline at the Ballet”

Golden book video killers is definitely one of my favorite web series of all time It’s interesting seeing characters from wb and Disney reacting and poking fun at the videos from golden books Yoshi also makes an appearance time and time again Great series guys and great logo history as well

Also, as for the two inbetween bumpers with that mysterious blonde girl, those were only used on 4 tapes as far as I'm aware: Poky Little Puppy's Favorite Stories, Scuffy the Tugboat and Friends, The Gingerbread Man and Other Nursery Stories, and Peter Rabbit & Other Tales.

I hated the closing logo at 0:51. I remembered that my Kindergarten teacher always had us watch these Golden Book Video tapes. The closing logo comes up unsuspectingly at the end of the video after a calm credits roll and a brief pause. The shining of the logo doesn't look natural either. It looks as if a searchlight is moving across the logo, searching for you. At least, the opening logo had some background music. Luckily, I didn't come across a video with the space version of the logo.

I wish Golden Book had the rights to Hanna-Barbera cartoons, so they could release a Space Ghost video with the space version of the logo. It would be a perfect fit!!

@@YuukiTakemoto1996 I don’t think so. Golden Book Video doesn’t owned HB. Golden Book Video did shut down back in 1996, and it was rebranded as Golden Books Family Entertainment.

Scare Factors: Original Variant: Somewhat great music and animation! Ranges low. GoldenVision Variant: Still fine, but ranges from low to medium. Silent, Zooming, and Spinning variants: OMG! This should be ranked high! And the last one is... Closing Variant: SUPER OMG! THIS IS SO NIGHTMARE INDUCING! YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT, ITS SO SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second one is the same logo with a different music which was the modified version of “Prestige Logo (A)”. The first one was done by the KPM Music Library.

And don’t forget the Centerpoint logo from the first Howie Mandel TV special in 1983, the music sounds familiar to this, and it was the inspiration for the Golden Book Video logo.
