Күн бұрын

I propagate my golden pothos over 60 days. In this experiment I compare rooting in distilled water, rooting with a pre-rooted cutting, and liquid seaweed to see which one reigns supreme.
I share my findings and hopefully debunk some plant myths along the way.

I'm hoping to try this experiment with a variety of plants. Stay tuned for results from a monstera cutting.

One thing to note is that the cuttings are all from different parts of the plant, which can lead to different results. Sometimes, getting a long, stringy root in water might not actually be what you want as that root is a water root that is looking for something to burrow into. Pothos is very good at making water roots, which is one of the reasons it's such a good plant to use for people to soak up nitrates in aquariums

Thank you, thank you ! I watched a few videos where people say " cut here" within the plant and their hand in the way. Since I'm new at this, I needed clear instructions. So thank you for that and the experiment ! Great info ❤ I have rooted some arrow head cuttings and when I put them in dirt, I always use the water they were rooted in as their first watering because I believe there are hormones in the water that they are rooted in, which my mom told me. So the rooted cutting in with the new cuttings makes sense.

@@KillThisPlant I enjoy all of your videos. I used to pride myself as having a decent green thumb...that is until I saw how huge your plants are. Thanks also for the name of the jazz artist.

For me it works best to break it - not cut it- above the nodium. That way, the original plant heals much faster (with cutting it was dripping water for a week. With breaking just 2 days). And then just directly dumping it into soil, but watering almost daily. Mine are then rooting much faster than having them in water before.

Perlite is what works best for me. Fast, cheap, clean, reusable. I noticed that if I use perlite for rooting cuttings, the second time I use it they’ll root faster 🤔 maybe I’m suggested by it.

That's great. I always recommend using what works best for you. I've never quite figured out perlite for rooting 😒

You don't need to use distilled water, I just chose to use it for the sake of consistency in this experiment.
