Is there a statistical category for 'blocks and regains possession'? Because if it doesn't exist, someone needs to create it to quantify how much more valuable Wemby's blocks are than anyone else's. So many blocks (in fact most of Victor's early in the season) end up going into the crowd, but Wemby is just pinning shots against the backboard or flipping it to a teammate. It's absolutely insane how he can get more blocks per game than anyone else in the league, and then decide "nah that's not enough" and so regain possession on almost all of them.

not only that mate, players avoid to even attempt a fg when wemby is in the paint, its so often now that they simply pass it out for a 3 point shot. if the players were to attempt as many fg in the paint as with other defensive players, wemby would have EVEN more blocks

Russell was considered a better defender than Chamberlain. When Russell blocked a shot, the block tended to become the outlet pass. When Chamberlain blocked one, the offense retained possession because the ball went out of bounds.

I LOOOOVE it when some idiots out there are like, “Of course he gets a lot of blocks, he’s 7’4!!” And then you’re just like, “Ok, so why wasn’t Yao Ming an amazing shot blocker?” Then they’re like, “I mean, he’s not just 7’4, he also has an 8’ wingspan!” And then you’re like, “So why wasn’t Tacko Fall an amazing shot blocker?” Then they go silent.
@thibahultАй бұрын
That's it. ofc with this body he had to defend well, he had to guard two guys in same time, he had to take rebounds, pass well, dunk often... this is the theory with this body. But so many tall guys have to do that and they don't... so many musclemen have to do that and they don't... Zion, Holmgren, Gobert, Embiid, Bol Bol etc... even KD, I mean especially in defense ! So many great NBA players can do one of these things, but they don't or not all of this... We have to admit, they still great but they are'nt Wemby. And like he said, this is just the beginning.

@GymLeaderGeoАй бұрын
This kid is just so incredible for so many reasons. He doesn't just get fingers on a ball and mess up shots. The amount of contact, redirection, and control he gets on these blocks make them practically steals! His blocks are out of the world, and it's just his rookie season! It would almost be enough on its own to make him a valuable pick, but then we add on that he's shooting 46% FG, 32% from 3, getting tons of rebounds? He's honestly such a menace. I would be terrified to go up against this guy. Teams are going to need unique gameplans just to work around his play and even then, he's still just such a solid player, he can bring value regardless. I especially think he carries his height in an unassuming way and that surprises people a lot. The way he holds himself when he's in an athletic posture disguises his size. So when people are going up near him thinking they're in the clear, the amount he can elevate just by literally standing up straight is surprising a lot of shooters and drives. It happened constantly in this clip, it's going to keep happening. I'm no spurs fan but this kid is amazing and I can't wait to see his continued growth and potential.
@hyperfluous4751Ай бұрын
Nice spotting his deceptive ability. You're right. He crazy agile, and it seems like crouches very low before completely reaching out of nowhere to snatch shots out of the air. His athletic posture though, while unassuming, Is also made to tower over opponents and smother them when guarding them, So he can take up physical space and impose himself when he wants too..
