Defeats the purpose of a league system. Am I correct when I say you can finish 6th in the championship and get promoted while the team who finished 3rd might not depending on playoff results

We have this system in Australia too For all our sports It's an Aussie thing Top 8 1st vs 4th 2nd vs 3rd 5th vs 8th 6th vs 7th If you're in the top 4 and lose your game you verse one of the winners of the 5th/8th games If you won your top 4 game you go straight to the last 4

Agree. We already have cup competitions. Leave the league as it is. People in management positions love changes to justify their existence.

This is the absurdity of the championship quite frankly. 3rd place is basically irrelevant aslong as you aren't in 8th.

Finishing 2nd is the same as finishing 4th, they both didn’t win the league and they are both playing in the champions league! That’s how we do it and it works. What do you recommend they should do regarding the championship promotion?

Too late we already have !!, I am against p/offs why do we need them . In the championship 46 games top 3 up thats it , why play 3 more, extra time , pens etc , its a war of attrition

Play offs are quite possibly the best thing in English football only a premier league fan who has no clue how much fun they are missing out on thinks this is bad.

My team have just qualified for the championship play-offs ask me if I am excited/happy / not really top 3 should be up rest of us should be getting ready for our holidays ..

Absolutely. The whole concept of league football is to accumulate points over the teams in your league. Never agreed with them even in the lower leagues.

A top 8 playoff system for the prem title will happen eventually Money talks and it's about what makes money For people who have been following the prem all their lives who care about the history, they'll hate it But the new age fans who don't understand the history will love it

Sorry explain why play offs are great for third spot as opposed to the team that played all theirs games and officially finished third.

@elliotthyde5623 Makes the league more interesting. More to play for and keeps teams further down the league involved. Let's be honest, finishing 3rd and not going up isn't the same as finishing top and not winning the league.

@@ArchShrop no but if third place goes up then it’s only fair that the team that finishes third goes up. Doesn’t seem fair to me that the team that finishes third doesn’t go up but 5th place does. Just my opinion.

@elliotthyde5623 I get what you're saying but everyone knows the rules before the season starts. I do think it makes the league more interesting though. I'm a Wolves fan so seen us finish 3rd and not go up but also finish 6th on the last day and beat 3rd placed Sheff Utd in the final. Most seasons the league would be over by April without the playoffs

Respectfully, no, bugger that, gifting the Prem clubs another chance to stay in the Prem with all the money? That would be a slap in the face of the Championship clubs. I also don't think it should happen between any of the lower leagues.

@@stevenknight1198 I speak as a Sheffield Wednesday fan, we had a record points tally without going up automatically, last season in League One. We finished 3rd, 19 points ahead of Peterborough in 6th...and yet, honestly I wouldn't change a thing. The playoffs gave us such insanely amazing moments, that I think it's worth it regardless. That said, I believe the top 2 should still always go up automatically, I think we have a good system atm.

The correct idea would be to have 3rd v 18th and the 3rd team gets to play the match at home.

Not really. the NFL system is designed the way it is because it’s impossible for all of those teams to play each other during a season. The sport is too physically demanding to play more than 20 games in a season. Consistency doesn’t really matter, the question Americans would rather answer is, when everything is on the line in a single moment, can you perform?

You get rewarded for your regular season performance by getting to play your single elimination games at home and getting a bye during the first round. Consistency gives you a better chance of winning it all. However, it means that, in theory, 43% of the league still has the chance to win a trophy going into the final 5 weeks of the season. That heightens the drama and keeps more fanbases engaged. Most teams in the EPL haven't had anything to care about for months now. Wolves, Bournemouth, Fulham, Brighton all started the season with almost nothing to play for and are going to end yet another season in mid table position. There's really only four teams left with anything to play for and yet all these other teams have to go out and play meaningless games for their schedules to be complete.

Better Prem engagement.... You engage a Top 7 race.... A Top 3 race.... And a Title Race....

@@mnb9162 They do playoffs in the Champs League for a few reasons - a league format would be way too many games (which is why they wanted a breakaway league if they were to do so), and playoffs are playoffs, it’s a different format and is spread out. It’s not the same as a league in the long haul in how games are approached in a multitude of ways. The NBA with their usual playoffs (apart from their new trash ‘play-in) are played over a 7 game series not one offs because they know it would’n’t reflect the best teams if it was one and done. And look a their league before the playoffs, they half ass it all season which is why they needed to being the new ‘play-in’ format. We don’t need that, we have the threat of relegation, and multiple Euro tournament places, but the league is the heart and soul of English football, the bread and butter. There is no way that’ll happen in the Prem thats way too many games for football and corny as hell - the long run of the season as a league would completely lose its integrity of the point of finishing first. The run in at the end would also lose momentum at the top with teams knowing asking as they make top 4 they’re in the playoffs. Not a chance - leave our game alone

@@Wickerrman we do it in my country’s league. (In europe) I get your point, but it also adds suspense and meaning towards the end of the season. You’re 7th you wanna play like mad, to reach the playoffs for example. And once in the play offs everyone there basically gets another chance for the title. Since it’s directly competing vs the top sides only.

Winning a league over a long season is THE defining thing that makes you winners. Playoffs are short term flips and anyone can turn someone over in one game so it doesn’t always reflect who is the 4th best that season in the long run, just that day. No thanks. It’s disingenuous of who deserves it.m and disrespectful. And for 1st place isn’t even worth talking about.
