Nice video, I used the same style tube cutter which I bought from GolfWorks, not a Craftsman though, its made in China. Also bought a separate cutting blade (wheel) from Golfworks specifically for graphite shafts. Just had to unscrew the blade for steel shafts and replaced it with the cutter for graphite. Works great

To prevent any splintering on cutting graphite I suggest some masking tape over the graphite before you cut with a rod saw.

@@McGolf How big of an issue is it, if the shaft does splinter a bit? I had it happen on the grip end of a 2i I threw a graphite shaft in. Splintering was probably 1/4" inch wide, and 2.5-3" long. I put a real light layer of epoxy over it hoping that would stop it from getting worse.

If you wrap 2 or 3 wraps of masking tape tightly around the graphite shaft you can use a fine tooth hacksaw blade and get a good cut straighter than that rod saw. With a Dremel and a regular or heavy duty fiber cutting wheel you don't need the tape and it is much quicker.

Hi, short question if you change/ remove a stell shaft from the head: Won't the ferrule melt when using the hot air pistol on the shaft? It is plastic in the end. If yes, how to prevent this from happening and messing up the shaft? Thanks a lot for help!
@joey5picks

only apply heat to the hosel, a little at a time until the head pulls off. That shouldn't be hot enough to melt the ferrule. Also good to have extra ferrules on hand.

Glenn Watson that is a common perception for wedges and can work well. Before those changes are made you might want to consider lie angles and sole grinds
@vins8690
@vins8690 4 жыл бұрын
Love your videos sir. I was wondering if you do cut off some of the shaft from (the grip end) will it affect the lie angle of the club? I am 5’5” short and stocky and my irons are standard length but are too long. A professional at a country club also mentioned they were too long and advised I just trim my shafts. I wanted to have your take on it since I would trust your advice much more. Thank you sir.
@McGolf
@McGolf 4 жыл бұрын
First Lie angle is determined dynamically,and is a relationship with the length of the club. for a shorter golfer, certainly shorter clubs are warranted unless you have an extraordinarily flat swing plane. if not when you cut the shaft to the PROPER length the lie angle may just to you. once you find the right length then test for the lie for the clubs to work their best

@vins8690 Жыл бұрын
@@killermaster16000 I basically followed a sizing chart. I went on google I believe taylormade had a custom golfer size chart and they tell you how much to take off. I needed around an inch off each club. I’d double check to see if they have a size chart or any company and try to go by that. I no longer have my clubs when I did that since it was two years ago, but my new ones are now professionally fitted. The clubs I customized were actually great and I played so well with, I was actually shocked at how good of a job I did. Hope this helps.

Hi! Great video Jim! One question, I broke my 6 iron steel shaft on a normal swing. I used to have a 3 iron from the set but changed it for a 60 wedge, and i want to use the shaft from the 3 iron, cut it as the 6 and install it! So my question is, is this shaft different from the 6 iron, or the shafts are all the same and just different length?
@pdga3791
@pdga3791 3 жыл бұрын
I would put them all on the floor and check it...maybe the parts from where it goes small to big( length wise) are longer on a 3 compared to a 6. So you might have to cut it from the bottom to get it right.
@lnknprkfn
@lnknprkfn 3 жыл бұрын
you could use the same shaft HOWEVER it would need to be tipped more to get the right flex which may or may not need a extension depending on length afterwards..
