im sure its called back-presure in the exhaust system. compression is the engine, no compression or little compression will make the car run crap. to much back pressure will reduce spool up and limmit power. to little back pressure will spool the turbo up way past its limmits Or caulse lag. decatting - straight throughs actually prolong the life of a turbo! FACT

I have a 2015 Jetta TDI. The muffler on my car is tied into the ecm. If you tried to run a straight pipe on it the engine would not run.

Please don't treat me like an idiot. I know TDI's don't need compression in the likes of a NA gas powered car, but I can assure you it creates way more wear on the turbo. Especially if its a stock one and has some miles on it.

Oh really? I've had about 5 cars in the shop with a straight pipe that blew their turbo. Last one popped his vacuum hoses due to overspooling.
