We gained a bunch of subscribers thanks to the Sega Genesis "Next 10", so now it's time to lose a few in order to keep the universe properly balanced out. I've had a fascination with golf video games ever since I got "Bandai Golf: Challenge Pebble Beach" for the NES when I was maybe 12 years old. When I got into the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine maybe 15 years ago, I ended up with a couple of golf games for it, and ever since then I've thought it would be neat to try to collect all of them (since they're so cheap anyway).
I was finally able to realize my dream (lol) and get a copy of basically every golf game for the system. There were only 2 golf games released for the TurboGrafx-16 on HuCard, and I have both of those, but I don't have the only game released on North American Turbo CD because I have the Japanese version. There was also some anime-based interactive novel type of game released on the Super CD called "Go! Go! Birdie Chance", but I don't even really count that one because while it uses golf as a backdrop, and you do play some golf in the game, I wouldn't personally consider it a proper golf game.
Show notes:
- I tried something a little bit different with this video, in that while it features recorded voice over, I didn't write a script. Instead, when I played each game I took notes, and then I sat in front of my microphone with my notes in front of me and just talked about each game. After that I recorded a bunch of game play footage and edited it all together.
- I have to thank a viewer and Discord regular named Eric for encouraging me to make this episode. He is like me a golf game aficionado, and when I casually mentioned that it would be neat to make an episode like this, he voiced his approval.
- Speaking of which, if you hate this video and hate that I wasted your time talking about sports games for almost an hour, the person you want to talk to is called "Eric", and you can find him in the official CGQ Discord.
- Speaking of which, if you'd like an invitation to the official CGQ Discord, just shoot me an e-mail (address on the channel "About" page.) While the Discord server is tied to the Patreon page and you get an automatic invite if you sign up for that, it is not a Patreon perk and anyone is welcome to come hang out.
- Although as you can see I own physical copies of all of these games, I recorded all of the gameplay footage using my MiSTer. It's just easier.

Oh, oh, oh. Once thing I totally forgot to mention, and I know people will ask. My HuCard sleeves. The original HuCard sleeves are made out of this really soft plastic that over time breaks down and turns into this sticky mess. It's possible to clean off the sticky stuff with rubbing alcohol (and some actual rubbing), but it's just going to keep happening. I actually have a few HuCards that suffered some light cosmetic damage because the melty plastic discolored the printing on the game itself. So while I did clean all of those sleeves and have them stored separately (to keep the games complete in case I want to sell them later), I bought a bunch of Tyvek sleeves (used for making floppy disk sleeves back in the day, and used as a vapor/air barrier in home building now) because they are an archival-quality material and because I don't want my HuCards just bouncing around loose inside the jewel cases. They're about $14 for a pack of 50, so quite cheap. Here's a link to them: amzn.to/3gi9h5s

Funny that you rated Jack Nicholas Golf so high. The first golf game I ever played was the DOS version and absolutely loved it. When they released the Super NES version I couldn't wait to go out and play it. It ended up being my favorite golf game on Super NES. Then when the KZfaq started being a thing and everyone dumped on it and recommended something else I just was totally confused. Thanks for sticking to your guns and nice to know I'm not the only one who likes those games!

It's just a saturday in April, but I was eating rotisserie chicken and watching a CGQ video about golf games, and somehow it felt like a holiday. You put a lot of work and attention to detail into your content. I loved that glimpse of the CGQ Weather Channel. Great to see you come to the defense of a game that seems to have been unfairly dumped on by other reviewers. Keep on doing content that you're excited about.

Looking forward to watching this when I get a chance. Golf games have always held a special place in gaming history IMO; there's something immensely satisfying about being good at a sport that I suck at in real life. Being from Augusta, the Masters Tournament has always been a big part of my life; I grew up parking cars at my grandparents' house just outside the gates, dreaming of what it would be like to play there. It's too bad the course was never featured in a game until much later; I would have loved to have played it back in those days.
