Matt, love your style and approach to golf! May I make an observation about your audio? Your voice is quite a bit lower in volume than other KZfaq videos but your music is certainly loud enough. Maybe it’s just me and what I listen on but it could use a boost compared to other videos. The quality and tone and compression is great!! Just a bit low. Thanks for being you and making great golf videos!

The best tip I ever had was to stop trying to crush everything and let the clubs do the work. I’m a bigger guy, 6’4, 240, so I thought I had to be the guy that hit everything long and high. It was killing my swing. Slowing down and hitting through the ball with more touch helped me out tremendously

I agree 100%. 6' 3" 225....always trying to hit everything to its furthest....finally realized, hey dipshit, there's other clubs in the bag, swing 60% to 80% and stay in play....has helped my game incredibly

Depends on a lot of things to be honest. I’m 6’5 around 200 lbs, but I’m young (18), playing off a 3 handicap, and extremely mobile and flexible. I’ve played golf for about 3 years and I do agree that a “smoother” and oftentimes “shorter” swing helps with consistency, but there are neuances. If you don’t have time to practice everyday for 3 hours, then yes, focus on smooth. However, my driver I hit around 315 in the air, and I can literally swing as hard as I can (practically jumping at impact) and normally be fine just because I’ve developed a consistent swing. Being tall gives you a natural edge, but you need to have the time dedicated, patience and confidence to make it all flow. Hope that helps in ur future endeavors.

My best swing tips have always come from teaching pros, not from other players. I love how Matt only talks about course management and never swing tips. Matt's tip about embracing the bad shot is spot on, because you will hit some bad shots every round. Every time I go to the range I always make sure to practise some punch shots because I do get into to trouble and hitting a great hook punch shot out of trouble is a delight.

Great advice!! I normally don't keep score unless I par the first hole. I am a 20 handicap player. A couple of years ago I was playing by myself and parred the first hole. I did not add up the scores as I was going along, but knew I was playing well. Once finished added up the score and to my total surprise I shot my age, 77!!

Decision making is my favorite part of golf...I went from averaging 100-105 to 90-95 within about a month from being more aware of actually playing the game & not just hitting golf balls where I think they should go... One thing that helped put importance on decision making was play with a smaller number of clubs. For instance, if i had 2 irons with a 25 yard gap that were the "wrong" distance for my approach shot, it was easier to shift my brain from "what's the right distance?" to "what's the right shot?" AKA do I want to favor the front of the green & deal with a wide open chip shot? Or do I want to favor the back of the green because there are some nasty greenside bunkers I need to carry? Or maybe it's wide open to the green & I can try a long bump n run. After the decision is made its just about making good contact & hitting a good ball. You're not thinking about the possibilities of what could happen while swinging because you've already made a decision in confidence.

Best golf tip I got was from you actually: give yourself 10 seconds to be mad at a bad shot then you get over it and think of the next shot, no dwelling on past shots only thinking of the next ones. It’s great advice for a high handicapper like me who hits lots of bad ones a round

A couple weeks ago was playing, one of the holes can be driven, however, danger to the left, danger to the right, danger in front, and go too far and you are in the parking lot. Myself and one other in the 4 some took out a comfortable iron and laid up to a good distance to set up our second shots. The other two decided to go for it. The two of us that laid up made par and the two that went for it got bogeys. Best advice was to play my game not someone else's.

Best golf tip I ever got was from the way of the playa, not letting the bad shots ruin my game. I find myself out on the course hearing Matty Boom Boom's voice and it calms me down. I am not consistently breaking 100 (need a little more consistent ball striking) but hitting a slight baby draw 7 iron to 10ft from the pin after a bad tee shot and nice second to set me up...felt like a baus! P.S. CONSTANTLY playing my shots away from trouble and just getting it on the green has really transformed my game. P.P.S. The buckets really did take 5 strokes off my game ;)

It'd take a hell of a decision to beat a hotdog and beer at the turn... :-D It is great advice, though! We weekend hackers overwhelming miss greens short, which comes form assuming we'll hit the number for a club; unless I'm crushing the ball or I need to avoid a hazard, I usually take the distance to the back when picking a club. I also think checking out the PGA Tour site's statistics is great advice. We all need to manage expectations, and seeing how many times pros miss gives us the context to set more reasonable goals and make it easier to forgive ourselves our misses. The Non-negotiable point about knowing how you play when tires/nervous is on the money. I tend to get tired on the back, and it effects my accuracy and my miss moves right; knowing this, I need to stop expecting to hit the shots I hit early int he round.

This Chi Chi Rodriguez comment is in line with Matt’s approach to golf. Have a target score to start the round. Continue this approach through the round!

Matt, the best tip is to practice putting. Putting matters more than anything. I normally shoot between 90-100 on a 6000 yard course; I hit the driver about 200 yards, after that I use no more than a 6 iron or 7 iron even if I am 300 yards out. If I putt well I am in the low 90’s, if not I am around 100. The great philosopher, Dirty Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood), once said, “ a man has got to know his limitations!”

120 yards and in Thats the number one tip Once you understand this yoyr thinking chsnges You then practive more at this than going to Driving Range and smashing balls Develop your shots up to 120 yards and get good at them As soon as you know how to hit the 100 yard shot well you are slapping them on the green all the time. When you find yourself in a bad position the range finder can then be used and you can pick where younput your next shot a certain distance to get back into play and keep out of the bunker etc
