Is this the Ultimate Chipping Drill? A BIG Part of THE SECRET to better Wedge Shots
A few months ago I had a student who really struggled with his basic chip shots, I wanted a really simple and effective drill to fix a lot of problems in one hit. After some thinking time I came up with this drill, now known as the DEATH DRILL! So called because it's about as hard as it gets BUT will improve your basic shot no end whether you succeed at the drill or not. DON'T FORGET that drills are supposed to be CHALLENGING, otherwise there would be little point in doing them.
Good Luck!

Wedge game and chipping holding me back big time. Long game in great shape. I can do it in practice but on the course i just struggle. Hopefully this helps get me back down to to Scratch and beyond. Thanks for all your posts and keep going!

I’m trying to be mindful of grip pressure and keeping things light and fluid. Not sure that gripping a stick would help but understand that regardless of style, this will help you rotate and move through the shot. Interesting stuff, thanks.

Totally agree with the remark about high handicappers, the over acceleration and subsequent efforts trying to deal with the sinking ship. If he starts with too much speed in the downswing there will be an obvious change of mind so that it looks like, feels like, and probably is, a yip. But I'm not sure I like the idea of the alignment stick as a cure. It's like stabiliser wheels on kid's bikes, sure the kid can stay upright but only until the stabilisers are taken off. The better way is to remove the pedals to start and then put them on when the kid can control balance, breaking, steering. I think the key to panic-free chipping and pitching is accelerating the clubhead throughout the downswing and through the ball. Gravity is on your side on the way down so you're not fighting that. Slight pressure from the trailing hand will keep things honest through the ball. Starting from a backswing that is clearly too small for the pendulum effect (gravity only) to get the ball to the hole, we only need to increase the pressure from the trailing hand to correct the energy in the club. This is simple, we are only worried about a single agoniser muscle group, if we were to try and decelerate the club then we would have to switch from agonisers to antagonisers - a whole different kettle of fish! So how do we take the pedals off? At the top of the downswing make your trailing hand flat so it can only push. It must stay in contact with the club throughout the down- and through-swing. It feels like you've given up almost all your control of the club. Which you kinda have. Even through the lead hand still grips the club and could change direction, slow, or accelerate the club it's very difficult to actually do for some reason. Grieve suggest taking the thumbs off the club which works equally well.

Looking strong man! Did I read correctly that you recently put 14lbs of muscle? Maybe your next video should be about that process! 🤜🤜🤜

I've been using this drill since your first post and it's really helping me realize that I was dragging the handle through impact. On your last shot that you hit and commented about the sound, what was different there? Was it just the impact spot?
