Thank you for not taking down your previous videos. There have been two channels that did and it really sucked. I have looked up previous videos of yours to remind myself of things. Even recently re-watched your last workbench that you later added the silicone glue well. Thank you :)

As a guy who has made this my living, I feel ya Michael. Sounds like the YT path you thought you had to take, wasn't the one you wanted. Whatever you do, chase your joy man. If you love building things, build things. If you don't like filming it (I am WITH YOU on that front) then don't. With that said, I wanted to pass on a bit of advice. Don't turn off monitization. By doing so, you only change one thing. YT will still run ads, and still collect money. The only difference will be that they keep your share. I can't see any logic in that. The $1,200 you made last year would pay for a stellar tax person to handle your taxes for you. Trust me, once in a while, you'll make a video that just really resinates with a larger audience, and it'll make you $20k-30k. It happens. If you turn off monitization, and that moment comes, YT will still get their money, and keep yours. No point in that.

Thanks for the advice, I didn’t shut off the whole channel. Just each video that wasn’t doing anything any way. At anytime I feel a video going to go nuts I can turn it on with one click. Yes for the most part I’ll be making less or none. But I do have the option of going back and keep all my subs and view history.

Mike, 8 years ago I got sick, leaving me 1,5 year stuck at home with not more energy than watching YT videos. That's when I discovered your (and some other's) channel. I was mainly interested in your videos on the lathe, because I just bought myself one. You helped me recover and I thank you sincerely for that. I stuck around and I hope you will too. Don't make posts for the money, that's not the right motivation. Do it because you want to share and maybe educate. Stay sane, and thank you from me in the Netherlands.

Hope to see you on KZfaq still in the future. It's not an easy road. We met a few years ago after a woodworking show in Indy. You're one of the reasons I kept my woodworking going. I hope things break through again in the future.

I hear ya, it can be a cruel game youtube, if looking for money. Always fun to simply do a project or two without filming, just to enjoy the process instead of worrying about lighting and angles and all that crap. Sounds like you just need a break, so enjoy it, hope it works out better for you in the long run. 👍👍

Hey Mike! You may or may not remember me from over 10 years ago. My point is I’ve known you and followed you as an early subscriber and always liked the content! No, I very very seldom make comments but had to chime in here! I don’t like watching the guys who never make mistakes (or publish them) not think themselves better than the rest of us. That’s why I kept watching you because your just a woodworker learning sharing and more importantly recording your project for us to enjoy and sometimes maybe learn something from. You said a few videos a year…..whoa….don’t cut us off like that. You want us to go cold turkey without your content…..haha! Well, whenever you do publish, we will still be here! Thanks for all you have done!
@mfwoodshop4 ай бұрын
Couldn’t have said it better myself. That’s exactly what I was trying to do this whole time. Never found a reason to jewel it up. But that’s probably why my channel never took off either. I’m ok with that.

Hey Mike, I competely get it. I've put out over 200 videos and livestreams. I can't break a couple hundred watch hours, so I don't even qualify for the partner program by a long shot. It really is disheartening to put the work in and see very little to no return.
@mfwoodshop4 ай бұрын
I got lucky at the start. You needed 100 sub to start getting paid. New channels have it rough to get going unless you can cut a break and get a viral video. Thanks for watching this whole time.

Michael, I'm glad for you. Sorry you lost money last year, but sharing video content is most important just to provide instruction and food for thought. I look forward more to what you decide to share of what you like doing than any scripted, planned videos directed at getting views. Good for you!

Thanks. I not sure how it’s going to work but it will be more fun.

Mike, I have enjoyed your videos BECAUSE you are not the most skilled woodworker in the fanciest shop. Your projects and your struggles are relatable. As an observer, I know that the KZfaq world is changing. I'm glad you didn't switch to being a full-time content creator. Having a day job is a good thing. Take care of yourself and your family. I look forward to seeing what you post (and rewatching some of your old videos).
