The Veneto in Northern Italy is famous for wines like Amarone, Soave, and Prosecco. It's also a hotbed for small, obscure appellations that offer fantastic value red wine. In this video, I blind taste wines from DOCG of Montello and find a GREAT Cabernet Sauvignon at $19!

Unknown and under the radar but are they really value wines? I'm not sure. Better than expected doesn't mean value for me. I'm sure there's better stuff for the money.

This video speak to me about how certain region make consistently great wine, while others are more "up and coming". I think you gave almost all the wines 90+ in your Tuscany videos. It seems like certain regions produce consistently excellent wines!

I love such a blind tasting, especially when you don't have little knowledge about the region. As a Italy-fan I wonder if you've done a tasting of wines from the DOCG's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Tullum. I have nearly no clue about those wines. Recently had a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo riserva, which was fruity and silky smooth, with nearly no tannins left and just a dash of oak. Medium length. Quite pleasing and I guess a wine most people like (with a plate of good pasta).

A 91 Cabernet Sauvignon for $19. What's so special about that? Seriously is Cab so magnificent that we expect higher? In the late 80's and early 90's the wine world was awash with Cabernet Sauvignon which was a byword for cheap - I'm not joking. Prices in the wine world are all over the place right now. A huge discrepancy with local prices and international markets. A lot of wine is being produced for big pockets too which is all about status and nothing to do with quality.

Actually, for me to find a Cabernet Sauvignon with true Bordeaux nuances at $19 USD retail is quite exciting. Especially considering the prices of what Cab goes for these days

@@welshtoro3256 There is a lot of bad wine made from Cabernet, there is also a lot of bad Cabernet from Bordeaux but some of the highest priced wines in the world are made from Cabernet. Wines like Chateau Lafitte, Margaux, Haut Brion etc.

I haven't tasted any bordeaux blends from. Italy. Except sasicaia few times and very few high end wines. It seems to me though they are not worth it based on this tasting. Only one that was good. There are so many great wines from Italy from local grapes. Nebbiolo and Sangiovese at the top. The style is unique and can only be from Italy so why try to emulate Bordeaux? I don't get it.
@mikaelplaysguitar
@mikaelplaysguitar Жыл бұрын
I agree with you but I guess it can be difficult to convince wine buyers abroad to try wines made with grapes they never heard of (not talking about Nebb or Sangio). That's also a reason why Portuguese wines are so affordable.

There are some excellent Bordeaux blends in Italy at all price points. If the rest of the world can plant Bdx varieties I don’t see why Italy cannot
