I live in the Republic of Panama one of the biggest ones that you missed was in the very latter part of the year, when all of the indigenous people of Panama came together and protested for over seven weeks, locking down the whole country which was difficult for those of us that live away from city centers But they stopped the Canadian mine contract that had been signed illegally to open a new 17,000 acre pit mine for copper which would’ve destroyed all the habitat in that area. Congratulations to the people of Panama for standing up for their rights and stopping corporate greed.

Thank you for explaining!!! Panama's unrest did not get covered widely in the US. My close relative was going to visit a different relative in Panama but couldn't because of it, and that's the only time I heard about it. I hope all countries will have these victories against foreign investors who don't have synergy in mind.

The sad thing is ya'll put "news we might've missed" and I haven't heard even a single one of these achievements throughout the year. Like damn, this 13 min. video got me soo hopeful and wanting to be a part of the 0.01 percent to help, but "regular" media really keeps us in the mindset of the destruction of the Earth is inevitable no matter what we do. Thank you for shedding light on the positives of the world ♡

was making my coffee this morning while listening to this and got to the part about the ozone layer actually improving and I had started to cry. Overwhelmed with happy tears and relief because as a teenager I remember how awful it felt to hear how we were destroying this planet and the ozone layer and it might be gone in my lifetime... and to hear that I'll be alive to see it healed was so impactful to my mental health. I just want to say thank you for making this video. Our human brains are wired to focus more on the bad news than on the good ones, so it's really eye-opening to see how much good there is happening in the world
@itsSamBentley
@itsSamBentley 4 ай бұрын
In the first section of the book ‘Stolen Focus’ it mentions how from a young age studies have shown we pay more attention to angry expressions than happy ones, and in that sense, things we find threatening rather than those non-threatening , so it’s no wonder there’s an abundance of bad on the feeds!
@JamesP44
@JamesP44 4 ай бұрын
Yeah our brains are hard wired for survival so with good news not being a threat we just almost dismiss it "ok thats nice, next" it's hard to focus on this nice positivity and take it all in. I really want to. Sick of bad news. Then bad news happens and because of the shock value our brains wake up and it grabs our attention because it could be a potential threat to us like when a knife crime happens for example "oh I go to that mall" "when will the government crack down on this" But I've been done with the tired bad news for a while and celebrity gossip 🙄. Need more of this uplifting stuff to remind our brains that there's plenty of good happening all around us. It's worth fighting to stay alive and live for. 🙏

My comment was kicked off this list. I will try to fix it. My point was that I absolutely love your efforts to show us the positive actions. I regularly use your stories to feed my energy as an activist. ⭐️👏🏽👏🏼👏🏾. This info is vitally important but I wanted to say that viewers, watching and reading this, have the courage to see reality and exactly where our path of crazed consumption is sending us. Not true for most of the collective consciousness. How do we get the danger to reach deeper into humanity’s understanding? Up until now the message has been nothing more than vague warnings filled with jargon, rhetoric, and career ego. No definitive picture, or hourglass, is provided. No clear consequences are stated. These vague warnings do no more than build vague fear in humanity. Forming a nearly universal response along the lines of… “2 degree rise in surface temperatures!? How does that affect my chance at survival? Get off my screen.” and many get up to kick their “cat” to relieve their fear. An alarming amount of “cat” kicking (fascist targeting) is going on right now. I lay this violence at the feet of global warming experts and world leaders. If we are able deflect and rationalize, our way out of the reality of extinction, then any reality can be distorted or flat out denied. Fascists are feeding on the delusional escapism of the collective consciousness. Can our crazed consumption be the collective consciousness binge eating because of our vague fear? Our solutions may always stay at no more than 1% of 1% if we do not clearly state reality. No SEA ICE… NO US… NO LIFE at all. That IS an hourglass, to the existence of life on this planet, that even a third grader can understand. Without it then “experts” and world leaders are just ending (klg) us with kindness.

Activism works activism works activism works! The situation with regards to fossil fuel subsidies in the netherlands is crawling at a torturous pace, but as someone who spent so much of this year taking to the streets with my fellow extinction rebellion rebels- I can confidently say that we've built en enormous amount of momentum. (our elections took a lot of wind out of those sails unfortunately, but We Will Be Back. (In fact weve got some action happening in amsterdam at this very moment!)) The movement is bigger than ever. (our largest protests grew from barely a thousand to tens of thousands!) If you care about the climate, make your voice heard. Recycling at home and adjusting personal habits are great steps, but we change the world once we actually go out there and show everyone that we will not be moved until our future is secured. Get in their faces, don't let them look away, as just the act of being seen can change everything.

This made me feel HAPPY! Sam, I would love to hear something from YOUR intention about why farmers markets are so much MORE expensive than chain grocery stores. A move towards lower prices for people who want to support farmer's market vendors would be great. Most small vendors at these markets are not paying large quantities of employees wages, not paying for expensive retail space, etc. I believe supporting farmers markets should be easier on the wallet, not harder. Do you have any news/ideas that can be shared in this? ❤
@itsSamBentley
@itsSamBentley 4 ай бұрын
Farmers' markets are often more expensive than grocery stores due to the higher costs of small-scale production, quality of produce, and direct selling expenses. To support farmers and potentially reduce costs, consumers can buy in bulk, participate in Community Supported Agriculture, advocate for supportive agricultural policies, educate others about the value of local produce, and purchase directly from farmers. The more we intentionally support local farmers the more they’ll be able to bring their costs down too. You’re also helping to reduce waste and transport emissions when buying locally, so it’s not just the food you’re paying for but also a better planet to occupy.
@flyingcheff

@@itsSamBentley I think those are all brilliant ideas, but bottom line, a small (like one measured cup) cup of coffee at a farmers market for $5 and a small bunch of kale (8 leaves) for $8 just doesn't cut it. At one market here (Maui) there was one baker that made veggie empanadas, they cost $9 for a half, $17 for the whole. The whole one was as big as a normal slice of pizza. This is normal. It's bougie and elitist. People that eat are not all rich and bougie. Organic and fresh has lamentably become food for the wealthy. A more truly community minded trend has to be acknowledged and perpetuated. I believe you are definitely part of the happy solution and I am grateful for your channel!

Thank you for this Sam! We need more videos that give us hope. People will lean into the doom with a "might as well give in" mentality if that's all they hear. So reminding people there is hope is key!

Thank you for this - so important to see the positives. Would love to see something positive about reducing cruelty and abuse of animals that are used specifically by humans - the 80 billion farmed ones in particular. If anyone sees anything about this, please share 🙏

This is a nice fresh video that does not shine light on more and more problems, until it eventually becomes a pile of worry as for most of those problems, there is nothing we can do!

In Portugal in 2023 we can already count 100s of ecosystem restoration iniciatives to heal very degraded lands (mostly driven by private landowners, often foreigners). The money raised by Ryanair flight customers is helping to regenerate a large Natura 2000 classified area of 28000ha burned recently by funding tree planting and suppot for landowners who lost everything (Renature Monchique).

I'm so grateful to have found this channel. Thanks, Sam. Hopefully there will be (relatively) more good news coming out of the USA, often misidentified as "the greatest country in the world", but only by those who live here and don't travel much. On its behalf, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for our collective, untreated illness, particularly over the past 5 years. We need a good therapist, but it'll have to be someone who donates her time. Our healthcare system is run like the blood diamond industry.♥
