ANTIQUE SHOW SALES RESULTS! | HOW TO PREP | REAL WORLD VINTAGE RESELLING
The show is great, we’re having fun, meeting lots of viewers and selling lots of antique and vintage to happy collectors and resellers! But how did that all happen?
We start and end our video at the Allegan, Michigan Antique Market, combing the wares of my show booth and the surrounding show street. There’s plenty to see as we gather, set up and show here, from high-style art deco and sterling delights to paint-by-numbers and fancy dresser boxes; but how did they get here?
Real world resellers and curious collectors get to see some of the forethought and tricks of the trade that go into preparing and selling at an antique show in this unique video. Beyond just showing the show, we show the process for turning an empty van into a box full of vintage goodies! (We also talk about some of what sells, and for how much in the real world.)
“Why are you taking one thing, but not the other? Why are you smashing that candlestick? You’re doing what with those showcases?!” There’s a lot of things that make showing vintage smalls easier for an antique show dealer, we share those experiences and a lot of helpful tips for those who are (or might be) selling at flea markets, antique shows and other real world vintage venues.
Here are some of the other items we enjoy as we pick, pack and display at the antique and vintage festival:
Weller Lorbeek console set, Verona art deco table, stacking metal lawyer’s bookcase, vintage games, bar mirrors, dresser boxes, pipes, Smiley Face bank, native American beaded purse, prairie oyster cache, cap gun, Slavic box, cross quilt, soybean license plates, Viking Epic patio light, Occupied Japan woman, dog planters, gold ring, crushed turquoise ring, scotty buckle, hand mirror, bottle stoppers, owl page turner, tank candy container, SLR cameras, pocket watch holder, Kilim saddle bag, B&G Seagull accessories, Royal Winton and Wedgwood biscuit jars, metal suitcase, Shawnee windmill planter, Delft Blue ashtray, double peacock chenille throw, Viking amber lighter, bakelite utensils, sports cufflinks, African masks and beadwork, Tonalá bird pitcher, tractor seat, piggy banks, McCoy Village Smithy planter, cigar cutter, etc.

I really enjoyed seeing how you packed. It’s so smart to take smalls to a show like that. I know when I attend an event, I’m not looking for large, high dollar items that I have to fit in my vehicle. If I can find smaller items, I can buy a number of things, and still keep shopping for more….guilt-free, because it ONLY cost me $_____.

@@TheAntiqueNomad How many times a year do you have to do all that? I'd need a bit of a lie-down, after all that. Ohhh, yeah, you definitely need to go shopping for true antiques! We can't have The Antique Nomad not having a good supply of true antiques😉 Oh yeah, did you get the email I sent, with the photos of the bookends I made? I've been wondering what you thought of them. I'd like to know what you think of the way I did the ones using those lions.

That was very interesting! I liked that kind of information. I have often wondered how the nomad thing works across the country. I have never been good at spatial recognition. I cannot tell you if something is 100 yards or 100 feet. I can never throw a ball, or play golf. Barely frisbee golf, but it never goes where I want it to. But I can play some Tetris like a champ. I can pack a vehicle or storage unit that you’d be shocked how I can fit things in. Solid. We always called it Tetris. Traveling everywhere by vehicle with 5 children and 2 adults, traveling for 2 months at a time sometimes, camping along the way, we had everything we needed (including the kids) in one van. You are very good at Tetris, it seems. So maybe we are not so bad at special recognition after all, George!

Cool! I wasn't sure how relevant it would be to some folks, but I guess you're about to move, so...good thing you already are an auto tetris champ!

Wow! I learned so much from this video. I have been selling vintage clothing and accessories for several years but only online. Got a new SUV in 2019 with the hopes of one day filling it up with inventory to sell at shows and markets but COVID put a wrench in that. I am trying to gear up to start selling at shows hopefully next spring and summer. I need to get a canopy and some portable garment racks. Now I know some tricks and hacks for making the most of my vehicle. Thank you George for your entertaining and educational videos.

I think so many people are daunted by ‘in person’ sales, what to take how much to take all the myriad of things to remember to make it a success - this helps to take away some of that uncertainty The ‘obvious’ things to think about like the weather when selling outdoors ! I’m sure get overlooked especially if the weather has been good for a few days prior - and to choose ‘weather proof’ items to sell is great practical advice

Wow, George, thanks again for the "antiqucation" & especially how to pack up & set up (I'll have to come up w/ a catchy name for that, also 🤔)! In your intro, it sounded like you were making music on some odd tribal instrument 🤣 I don't do shows, yet 😉, but occasionally take my stuff to the flea mkt & since i have booths in 2 diff counties, have to rotate merch & what with sourcing from thrift stores, the packing lesson came in handy. I, too, didn't do well w/ the spacial thing in school 😕 but trial & error is the best teacher 🤣. I havn't lost too many pricey pretties due to breakage, thank God, altho my broken Treasure Craft Cookie jar that I got for a song brought a tear to my eye 😥. Did you sell the cross quilt @ your show? If not, I'll email you for price. Luv your booth & need to make a jaunt there to have a look see! GOD BLESS

Only twice! I did that when I introduced the Treasure Craft book at the L.A. Pottery Show in Pasadena back around 2005 because I had all Treasure Craft/Pottery Craft inventory and wanted to cast it in its best light. The other time was when I was new to Florida shows and had unpacked a moving van with enough stuff that I laid it out in my garage to decide what to keep and what to take to the show

Have you looked into renting tables; pre arranged, from a rental store nearby the show that you will be attending? VS transporting tables and giving up valuable merchandise space?

I weighed the pros and cons, and table rent adds about $50-75 per show. It's true you could fit more but honestly, I take about as much as I personally can handle as it is. That's the same reason I don't have a bigger van
