This is the ONE time we really saw James Evans VULNERABLE. Not angry, not guilty, but VULNERABLE. John Amos with maybe his best performance on the show. He makes that pain he felt...what it feels like to revert back to being a child, so plain to see.

@ Manu Ginoblis Bald Spot.....I disagree. The other time was " The Gang" Pt.2.Remember when Mad Dog's mother slapped him and basically disowned him? Then he says to James " You wanna piece of me too? Hit me go ahead" And James just sheepishly say " I don't wanna hit you son" after he had all that pent up anger and probably would've put the beats on Mad Dog if he saw him on the street before the trial.

I can relate to this episode because I didn't see my father until I was 17 years old. On April 8,1989, six days after my 18th birthday, he had died of a heroin overdose at age 42; I have forgiven him for not being in my life. I had blamed my mom and she didn't tell me who he really was. Her adoptive parents did. At the end, I was crying so hard. I was so happy that James had forgiven his father.

Damn, this show was so good. Like theater, and played to the limit. I’d like to see another show with this intensity, but I think it’s too late. Thanks for the video.

I have always said James represented what a father look like. He showed strength and confidence in what a real man look like even bad situations. He never gave up no matter how bad their life became. I always said I wanted a fathering the character He played on tv.

2:42 We’re not seeing James Evans, the same man that instilled the fear of God in his children by motioning toward his belt. We’re seeing little Jimmy Evans, who kept wondering when his dad would come back. Amos killed it.

I think this is one the last several episodes John Amos was in. His character is reunited with his long lost father, only to be killed off in the beginning of the following season.
