In our headlights
Staring, bleak
Beer cans
Deer's eyes
On the asphalt
Underneath
Our crushed plans
And my lies
Lonely street signs
Power lines
They keep on flashing
Flashing by
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Your breath
Hot upon my cheek
And we crossed
That line
You made me strong
When I was feeling weak
And we crossed
That one time
Screaming stop signs
Staring wild eyes
Keep on flashing
Flashing by
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
The devil grins from ear to ear when he sees the hand he's dealt us
Points at your flaming hair and then we're playin' hide and seek
I can't breathe easy here 'less our trail's gone cold behind us
'Til then the john mirror you stare at yourself grown old and weak
We keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye
Such a late goodbye

For me I thought it was clear that this was about Nat facing and accepting her past rather than just running away and atoning for it. This is personified by Taskmaster being a mistake she thought she could forget about coming back to haunt her.

Black Widow as a film is not a top 10 MCU film for me but I think some fans have exaggerated the problems it does have by creating ones it doesn't, the Taskmaster twist is a perfect example of this. No the character is not the same character as he is in the comics but neither are any major hero or villain because they are being adapted for mainstream audiences. Natasha's character arc in the MCU has been about her attempting to redeem herself for the crimes she committed as an assassin ever since her confrontation with Loki in The Avengers about the people she has murdered, in particular Dreykov's daughter. The reveal that Antonia Dreykov is alive and being forced by her father to act as essentially an even deadlier widow make perfect sense for the final chapter in her story because she spends 2/3 of the film literally running away from her past personified as dark reflection of herself before freeing Antonia and finally completing her redemption

The thing with this movie is that,it doesn't feel like we FEEL for them, like they're using they're voice to contact the problem...IN A NUTSHELL...THEY TELL,NOT SHOW...and thats a problem cause if your just gonna tell us without showing it,THEN ARE WE EVEN GONNA CARE??(of what the're talking about not the actual movie) EXAMPLE: Black Widow:I killed her(taskmaster's real name or wtf it is) Like we know that she killed her but we dont know if its important later,AND ANOTHER THING...THERE IS A PLOT TWIST OF HER ALIVE...But we didnt care at first cause she only got mentioned THROUGH V O I C E isntead of a SCENES and FEELINGS THROUGHT BLACK WIDOW One more thing, they keep mentioning this dude AJAK but we are like,"WHO IS THIS AJAK?SHOW US!!" but when Ajak was shown...WE'RE LIKE **OHHH THIS DUDE FROM THE START WHY DIDNT YOU USE CLIPS OF HIM INSTEAD OF JUST TALKING ABOUT HIM** There is alot of this things in the movie, and I hope u get my point

@Zach D I agree that this is a Phase 4 version of the Mandarin because Trevor Slattery was confirmed on screen to NOT be the Mandarin at all if you mean Aldrich Killian then that still doesn't work because he only used the name once to Iron Man that he was behind the plot of Iron Man 3 they never once suggest that Killian was the Mandarin behind the Ten Rings and we will see the true Mandarin Wenwu in Shang-Chi it is perfectly possible that we will see Tony Masters take the costume from Antonia Dreykov and become Taskmaster at a later time

Nat has always been in a pretty rough spot as a character, getting handed off from writer to writer through the MCU. I've always hoped for a comic-faithful rendition of her character, and always wanted to see how the MCU would handle the Red Room. Considering what the MCU left writers to work with re: her timeline and story, I think they did a pretty great job keeping true to her character. As a fan who's been attached to this character for years, I'm actually pretty satisfied with this movie. Also, congrats on making me cry over this movie AGAIN. :p

I loved this film. It's the most sophisticated one Marvel has put out. With the themes about family, lost child hood and slavery. It absolutely amazing that they didn't just make it a cartoon about Natasha doing kung fu and killing people. It was actually very psychological and heartbreaking. That scene when young Nat tells Melina that she doesn't want to go back was so disturbing When I first watched it I naturally thought she didn't want to go back to Russia. But she's talking the Widow program (which is an allegory to forced prostitution).

I kind of like the little shots taken to the movie's logic. Honestly they made some of these characters so indestructible that I half expected a reveal that they also got super soldier serum or that Natasha actually survived Endgame. This movie seemed to make a point that fall damage isn't a thing. Not a terrible movie or anything. It was fine. A bit too late and kind of a less impactful Winter Soldier, but still had moments worth seeing. And certainly is a story that has a place. Just really is too bad they didn't make this when it is supposed to have happened.

I think they screwed her over and only made this movie to try and sell their new product. There were so many missed opportunities in this movie. Many of the characters scenes were top-notch and very enjoyable but the action scenes were lackluster, and horribly edited. Or many of the actors were incapable of doing they're part of the stunt work. You know something's wrong when the action scenes compares unfavorably to Liam Neeson's Infamous 13 cut climb over 6 foot high fence. And in his defense he was in his mid-60s. However the most egregious point for me, was spending one or two full minutes showing us how strong the Red Guardian was and then not making the fight between Red Guardian and Taskmaster a battle between brute strength and high-skill. It was like putting a half dozen guns on the wall at the start of the play, showing us the main character practice shooting the guns, and then never using them. One thing I've noticed since the movie as that I really by the young girl as young Tasha. Excellent casting. Good writing and acting too. By the way this channel is awesome and I love it. @MxSherwood
@MxSherwood 2 жыл бұрын
@@Chasing_santino, Natasha’s lack of a Russian accent actually just made sense to me from a technical perspective on a acquisition, given the prologue. She spent three years in an American school during the latter part of her critical period. Natasha doesn’t have a foreign accent the same way Mila Kunis doesn’t, more or less. Yelena’s accent seems to me to be lighter than all the other Russian-accented speakers’, even though she does still have one. This is kind of expected since she spent the early part of her critical period in an American school (or kindergarten I guess) but didn’t have that for the majority of the period. That also tracks. All the others ofc are second language speakers, so it makes sense they’d have an accent. As for everyone speaking English, I think it makes sense for the four members of the “family”, at least. They would’ve been paired together not long before being dispatched, and to maintain cover they would’ve had to only speak in English for the duration of the mission. They were then all separated. When you mostly associate a language with someone and/or with a social setting, you kind of just codeswitch to that without thinking when speaking to that person or whe put in that situation.

@@MxSherwood I like that last paragraph u wrote but i don’t like how she didn’t have one then had one and then didn’t have one again, I think her not having a first language is impressive that she managed to do that and is a new unexpected insight especially when this movie didn’t offer any insight to who she is anything little like that for me would be appreciated

I thought her character arc worked, but the third act was just so...uninspired and generic. I've no problem with who Taskmaster is (and it's pretty easy to bring in the comic accurate one later), but they barely used their copy powers at ALL. We also barely got to see the fight of brute strength vs. skill when they fought Red Guardian. Red Guardian could've also gotten more serious or down to earth scenes to seem like less of a joke IMO.

I think the explanation is she thought her "parents" were worse--the type who would willingly choose to brainwash and corrupt thousands of girls. The reality is Red Guardian was simply clueless, too self absorbed and insecure about his own ego to know what he was helping with, and Melina was complicit, but essentially afraid and cowardly. @@Duiker36 but in the context of wider pop culture, it’s important to show more that no one is owed forgiveness or a second chance. I have little issue with this in a vacuum but media taught me personally that heroes forgive and give more chances to the people who caused the most harm, and I learned the hard way how that mindset works in real life-so because it isn’t in a vacuum, we need more representation of heroes acknowledging that no one is owed forgiveness after crossing the line. Think about what this movie ends up saying about how abused little girls should view their abusive parents. Hell Red Guardian’s remorse was used for several jokes and he ended up not even saying it. Abusive family in particular is often at the center of forgiveness arcs in pop culture but more pop culture needs to acknowledge being family and even growing past your abusive tendencies doesn’t mean the person you abused owes you anything.

Spiderman is an infinitely more popular and better character than Tony. Carol needs some work to replace thor but she probably won't need to because thor will likely continue on throughout 10 Yr sagas, even if he's no longer a regular with a franchise behind him. But honestly thor wasnt the greatest character after thor 1 so she defo has time within her own franchise to develop. The big problem is tchalla as even though they might be marketing Sam cap as caps replacement he is a literal replacement not the figurative mcu Spearhead replacement that was supposed to be tchalla hence why in endgame we saw tchalla, Peter and Carol doing what the OG 3 couldnt by basically playing catch with the gauntlet. With chadwicks death he'll likely be replaced by a different hero possibly the new star shang chi? Either way it seems like doc strange will take the hulks spot and do what he couldn't by actually having films of his own. It should have been released before infinity war or between infinity war and endgame it would made her death had most impactful and reinforced why she was still at HQ looking for signs of promise after 5 years. It’s weird to go into this movie and have it end with ‘promise’ when we know where her eh, endgame goes.

i did like the film though the theatrical screening i went to was horrendous as the projector went to shit not once but 3 times. it killed whatever enjoyment i had for the film. it is a flawed film but still a fun one. i love yelena and i hope to see her in many more adventures as an avenger and have a ladies night with wanda, monica, captain marvel, sylvie, hunter b-15, nebula, gamora, mantis, wasp, okoye, princess shuri, and the ladies from "eternals" and "shang-chi" where they drink tequila!

I disagree I can’t possibly see how this movie could have been worse, I was hoping for a Logan and dark knight type of movie with a beautiful indie style to keep it unique like lore which the director also directed

I lost so much love/respect for marvel when I watched this movie, this was one of the biggest heartbreaks in my life and it ended up being a safe generic marvel movie when this could have been a mix between the dark knight, Logan and a mix with beautiful indie movies like the director does to make it unique

"it ended up being a safe generic marvel movie" -- A generic marvel movie? You're kidding right? A film which is an allegory about childhood trauma, the nature of a lost family and the dehumanization of people. That to you is generic?

@@vittoriacolona I’m not kidding. You can make this plot about anything it being the things u described doesn’t make it different. Everything is this movie was put through the Disney filter in a bad way. So yes generic

What's the deal with William Hurt's weird makeup? Is General Ross supposed to look younger or older? I imagine he'll pop up again in the MCU (probably in the She-Hulk show, I guess that would make sense) and they want him to look different. Does anybody know anything? Or is it just badly done?

they should've just given her a show on disney + like hawkeye (and both shows would aim to say good bye/usher in new characters) and black widows show could bounce between this plot and the budapest one.

Good analysis. If only the Marvel combine were actually trying to do that. Instead, they used her in many cases as a cheap add-on to make other people's stories more believable and in the end fridged her to provide development and motivation for a (forgettable) male character. In the end, it is a very conventional and sexist fate for her character. That's why her (lack of) an arc and eventual death infuriates so many Black Widow fans. In an MCU world where we are getting pitched the return of so many characters from oblivion (the overwhelming majority of the male) the insistence of the movie in particular and the MCU in general the Natasha is dead and stays that way seems obtuse. It is also, in the end gender biased, in a most pedestrian way.

Yeah but... the thing is, Hawkeye must love his bow dearly, right? So, imagine that fight on the cliffside, but mr useless manages to say "wait wait I love my bow more than you!" and then when they're back at the top of the cliff, she says "this better work, because I'm so angry at you right now, I WANT to kill you." Then, after he throws the bow, he screams, clutches his head, and says "Oh shit, I don't remember how to use a bow anymore!" R(etire)IP mr useless.

This video essay was more enjoyable and satisfying than the movie. Still don't know who Ivan is, or what really happened in Budapest. Worse still - no adequate 'goodbye' for the fans for a much beloved character. Disney only gave the go-ahead for this movie, after 10 long years, for one purpose only - to sell Phase 4 on Disney +.

Hello, there, random randy here. This video got recommended to me by the mighty algorithm after I watched your Invincible video, which I liked, It had an interesting take, you didn´t talk much about why Amber absolutely sucks but oh well. This video was a bit of a letdown, though. I get that your channel is called what is called and that you have your audience that enjoys your content and you give them what they like but it was disappointing seeing you using all the cliched (trappings?) of the video essay genre: The sappy piano music; the soft, somewhat monotone delivery (You don´t talk like that, c´mon); the kinda pretentious lines that don´t really add much, (Again, is the channel name, I get it) the out of context editing of clips and the general focus on "Feeling" which would be fine and dandy, like I say is part of the genre, but in your introduction, you said "... examining storytelling patterns..." and "way more clinical, way less personal"; It wasn´t really like that. It wasn´t all that focus on the socialization angle you chose to use as a frame, either. In contrast to your invincible video which was well supported with clips and arguments. Apologies if this sounds like I'm nagging you, is not at all my intention, just sharing my thoughts. I just subscribe to the EFAP school of media analysis, that's all. Anyway, carry on doing what you enjoy and have a great day.
