Join us in remebering the loss of this historic Hong Kong trainset! On the 6th of May, 2022, the last Mid-Life Refurbishment train to operate on the East Rail Line departed Hung Hom Station at 1 p.m.

I don’t live in NT and didn’t take the MLRs much, but I just came back from taking some final photos because these trains diligently served us for four decades and I’ll miss them so much.

MLR retirement sounds like my best friend leaving for canada in 2-3 months.😭Thank you MLR for all your service! I love to ride them 3-5 years ago weekly and now they're gone. Farewell MLRs.

A few hours ago I finished school and ran so damn fast just to catch a train to get to Sha Tin station to have a final look at it and to record some videos about it. I swear, I almost died 10 times. But...It was worth it. The best train ever.

I didn’t know that was MLR last day MLR retire the next day after I just receive a message from email my mom sent it to me and I see the video and then I was so sad that MLR is retired😢

The MLRs used to have wheelchair space, but MTR removed them to make way for seats that were removed from the front to make way for new signal boxes (again!)

Lots of memories riding up and down the KCR in these trains. Sad that they've been replaced. They were so well maintained I didn't realised they were so old.

Singapore 🇸🇬 also had Sent its 40 years old Former legend Siemens and Kawasaki older models trains 🚆 to Scrap yards in Tuas and even Former public light Rail Trains and buses 🚌 too

I never got to travel on any of the MTR or KCRC EMU’s, however, I helped manufacture the bodies from 1981 - 1985 whilst employed at Metro Cammell’s manufacturing base at Washwood Heath, Birmingham.

@@hiddenhongkong it is good to know that the KCRC and HK MTRC rail carriages lasted nearly 40 years in service. From the many comments I have read on many forms of social media it appears that the generations of people in Hong Kong were really impressed with the trains I helped manufacture.

The Metro Cammell Electric Multiple Unit AC KCR train has been completely scrapped, defiled, piled up, dismembered, dismantled, destroyed, demolished and damaged beyond repair after they cut up 24 trains at Lo Wu in half, and 4 trains into 4 easily manageable sections, and the last MLR (E112/E71) has been permanently disabled with 6 carriages scrapped in the depot!

You should do a full journey on Citybus (Cityflyer) Route A10, because it is one the most expensive bus routes in Hong Kong, along with KMB route 869.

Thou i am from Australia, I paid a visit back in 2018 and rode in this train a lot, sad to see it go as i traveled on it oftern on this mordel of train while in HK. Guess i will have special memory of it now

Went to Hong Kong once before the pandemic. Such a pity to have not taken the ERL once. Now the 12-car commuter trains are almost nowhere to be found in the world.

Are any going to be preserved? Or are they being cut it just because they were from British hong kong?

I think some are being sold to private collectors. Nothing has anything to do with the British afaik.

@@hiddenhongkong but they came from England as they were manufactured by Metro Cammell when I first rode these in 1992 (between Sha Tin and Fanling)

Train retirement / preservation procedures are not affected by its history. Preservation by the MTR is unlikely due to the fact that there isn't much space to do so, except Hung Hom's old platforms which likely will be utilised as stabling sidings instead though. And I believe the tracks leading to the Railway Museum aren't connected to the EAL so transporting traincars there will be a logistical nightmare.

Yes, first generation MTR EMU.

@@CaptainM792 Third generation, the second gen was the diesel locomotives from 1950s-1982. First generation was Steam Locomotives from 1910-1962

Is The MLR trains still at a depot somewhere? or is all sets been sent to the scrapyard eventhough ine is at the Fire Department, and some seats and handrails are kept, its still not enough,I want one in a museum. I have personally never been on the east rail line, I have been to hong kong 2 times

It wont work cuz mlr is already too and broke too many times old and end of its life and plus mlr cant go up on the hung hom new platfroms and curve bends thats why mlr is retirimg
