Jenny - thanks for this! how are you ensuring you are putting the correct dosage in the smaller capsule? For something like fiber powder (psyllium) it might not matter, but if you have a medication in a bigger capsule, what is your trick to getting all of the bigger product into the smaller capsule? Empty one big capsule on paper and divide into multiple small capsules perhaps? With my luck I would spill half of the bigger capsule contents and have to start over!

I've only ever split tablets to put in gel caps - that are actual mediciation. You can get a scale, if you want - weigh the contents of a capsule, and then half it or whatever you need to. Think there are several ways to tackle that. I never really ensured the dosage was PERFECT when I pilled Caymus, for example. I had a thyroid disease for 8 years. My docs had me divide my meds frequently - and I had to split them in half. SO I just figured over the course of two days, I was getting the full tablet. Yes, you could certainly pour the contents onto a piece of paper. They also have pill makers - that you can buy online. NOt sold on AMazon though.

I heard there are capsules available with meat flavor, like some meds have a coating.

Probably. But as a vet said to me today - “what’s in then that makes it ‘flavored’”? Exactly.

@@Floppycats true but when you give something that has a strong scent and you fill them yourself it’s not easy to not get that scent on the capsules. This bacon flavor/scent helps. When the scent isn't strong i'd certainly use the gelatine capsules. (you'd think it should be easy to get a natural flavor added to that… 🤔)

Yes, that's why I chase with sardine water. I would NEVER use the bacon flavor with all of Charlie's issues.@@sim-one

I now have a kidney cat & when this began I was struggling with everything. Getting the pill medication in him was a nightmare. I got #4 capsules, a pill splitter and some pill pockets. I put Scoobys pieces of stomach medication pills in the capsule and wrap about 2/3 of a pill pocket around the capsule (put a drop of water on the pill pocket). I still have to drop the pill in the back of his throat but i think it is better accepted and goes down easier
