Yeah. Of course BF can do whatever they want with the videos on this channel but it's a bit strange to show a whole rosted chicken in a video with the word 'vegan' in the title. Nothing against the budget tips but it's either a "vegan" video, a "budget" video or a "vegan budget" video, point being it should be called what it actually is 😅

It goes in the Italian American version, just like our pizza has more on it than just tomatoes, basil and mozzarella. It may be less authentic, but it tastes better, which is why we do it. 13:30. Awesome points. I guess the next part is understanding what fruits and vegetables are in season. Supermarkets can definitely get better at that and research (online) should get better (easier) at helping those at home, to know what's in season. Farms at supermarkets and homes, and video screens at both locations-- for recipe search/ help and in season products.

You know what, this channel really helps me to fix my morale, especially after spending a lot of time eating or talking about food with non-veg eaters. I didn’t become vegan because I didn’t like meat or because it started to disgust me (sadly actually, because 1. it would help a lot and 2. it just is disgusting) but because of moral and environmental reasons. So after spending a lot of time with non-veg eaters I sometimes feel like I miss out on things, that maybe I’m just convincing myself that I like vegan food just the same when really I don’t - but (long story short) these videos remind me that you can have suuuuuch nice things with no effort and cheap as well! So thank you, I’m back on track ❣️

When it comes to making plant milks at home, yes it's cheaper, but it doesn't have the added calcium and Vitamin D in it. If you're not using fortified plant milks/dairy, you'll need to supplement!
@injunsun
@injunsun 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Mushrooms have D2, and if you expose them to UV, they turn it into D3. As for calcium, many foods are rich in it, including greens. That's not saying a warning about missing those things isn't warranted, I'm just slightly down on supplements, as many are either not Vegan, or they are expensive. For calcium, one can just chew Tums, but cheap D3 is hard to find, other than sheep lanolin derived (same with E).

That is hardly what I’d call cheap. 14 for a lasagne. That is like over a week of food shopping for me. Solid vegan meals are totally possible for like 50p a portion, loaf of bread 50p 4 different veg, some garlic and onion and paprika, you got 5 portions of soup with a few slices of bread per portion for like 3 quid.
@smudge8882
@smudge8882 3 жыл бұрын
Food is a lot more expensive in the U.S. Also, are you taking the conversion between dollars and pounds into account? $14 is approximately 10£. But yeah, it's not fun having to spend so much money on food. Sadly, in the U.S., that is considered budget friendly
@iamwindchakra
@iamwindchakra 3 жыл бұрын
$14 is the pan price not per serving. So if you do 8 servings it's about $1.75 per serving. I do not think it's possible in the US to create a pan of any kind of lasagna, vegan or not, for as cheap as you say. $1.75 per serving is very cheap when you consider lasagna in a midlevel Italian restaurant is $12-18 for the slice. I live in Kentucky so I believe I could make this for about $8 buying everything new and not even using each item completely. I'm including items I would normally make from scratch in that total, as if I'm buying them instead of making them, like sauce and noodles. So even buying those I could still do this reasonably for like $8 and it would be about $1 per serving. I would probably eat 2 servings over 2 days and freeze the rest in individual portions. A good, cheap, long-lasting meal that is also tasty!
@injunsun
@injunsun 3 жыл бұрын
I can make something like this for around $9 in East Tennessee, giving six generous servings, at about $1.50 per big chunk, as I do mine in a 13"x9"x6" pan. As for one week of food for less than £14.00, how do you do that? I routinely spend about $50.00/week, for two adult men, and that's buying on sale, using coupons, and using Ibotta for rebates. I end up saving between 15-25% on my groceries just with the latter two, so I can buy some of the better quality faux meats sometimes, easily stretched with chopped onions and such. Also, as my husband is Omni, he eats out a lot, so the groceries are mostly for me. My most expensive items tend to be fortified plant milks, even when bought as above.

Love these videos and have been a long time fan. As a grower, the suggestion to go to the farmers market at the end of the day for cheaper prices because we’re “ just trying to get rid of it” was pretty off putting . It takes us months of work ,to care for and nurture the produce we share. If you were to add up all of the hours and resources used , we’re not getting a lot back. We do it because we love it. And to be honest, we don’t discount at the end of the day but, our scales get a bit “ lighter” for people who need it.

Hmm, not easy. I guess in my lasagna I would welcome pepper, chickpeas, lentils, carrot and maybe squash but they all have their own flavour, not like eggplant or zucchini. Tomato pieces would fit but if you'd like something to replace meat, try alternatives like dehydrated soy, tofu, seitan or other stuff your grocer offers.

Pretty lazy to just take a bunch of old video clips and put them into a new video. They were very obviously copy and pasted, essentially and didn’t flow well at all. The “tips” at the end were also weird as they didn’t match up with the beginning aspect of the video.

Hi, Victoria. I have Freeman in my ancestry, and a great nephew by marriage is a Freeman, so we may be kin somewhere back. I have seen better recipes for both dishes myself, and have made some better, but maybe their recipes were lacking because they were doing that "on a budget" thing? I would have added some spinach or greens to the lasagna, and some faux bacon bits ro the mac & cheese, for starters. What are your ideas?
