Well the trailer is very misleading because it helps distract you from whats actually going on while you're watching it, cause you focus so much on the mother you don't actually pay attention to the little things. See cause i saw the trailer i was so focused on the mother and trying to figure what was going on with her it distracted me from the subtle hints about the twist. So the trailer being misleading kinda helps the movie viewing experience.

Don't you think that's what made the movie enjoyable? See I agree SPOILER ALERT with the whole Fight Club twist but you see, that's the point! It's like when you grow up, watch horror movies and say that's just a guy in a ghost suit, which kinda ruins it for you... you see my point? Looking at a horror movie as an adult really takes out the scare. My advice would be DON'T GROW UP

I saw the trailer years ago and was dying to watch the movie, but I never got to, then today I found out it’s on KZfaq for free and wow. I remember the trailer so vividly and it definitely distracted me from the twist. I caught on eventually before the grand reveal, but I’m so happy I didn’t get anything spoiled because it would not have had the same effect.

I was wondering if you might be interested in a new segment, reviewing/comparing foreign films and their Americanized remakes. I don't know how many you would actually be able to do but I know I've seen a few foreign films that were later remade for Americans, i.e. "Let the Right One In", "Oldboy'', "The Ring". Just an idea, I would love to see you comparing them and kinda declaring which version you like better.

Absolutely loved this movie. And although I figured it out 15 minutes into the movie, it still remained a great watch and one of the best psycho-thrillers I've seen in the last few years. It's beautifully made and it may be slow paced it doesn't get boring.
@brajeshsingh2391
@brajeshsingh2391 Жыл бұрын
well I could not figure out in 15 minutes into it but yes at a point you definitely understand it. But the clarity of the narrative, and its mood and tone are so well done that you absolutely drawn into it. The narrative is so precise and gripping that you just cannot help but watch. Changing its subject from intrigue to mystery to horror to tragedy, without any tricks or gimmicks, Goodnight Mommy is a classic. Starts out very mysterious but ends up so shocking and emotional. An 8.5 from me. Definitely one the better horror movies I have ever seen. I am surprised its not better known. This should have won an Oscar for Best Foreign Movie.

I didn't see that at all in my first viewing and also I wondered why this shot lingered so much without a reason... Well that's why. It changes the ending quite a bit. Now I'm not sure what happened. Was she dead? Was it her spirit being freed and walking away?

what it means is that the kid finally fabricated the rest of the family he had since the trauma of losing his brother and feeling guilty about it The movie tries to make you think its the mothers twin with the photos, but why would the twin have gone through the surgery too? that is just the kid creating a twin so he can understand his real mother as an imposter and stay with "a more compliant mother who aknowledges his brother" so he can have a full family again THIS is a bad movie, not only because it can be predicted by the third scene but also because it handles the"fake person" horribly, watch it again and you will see somethings happening which don't make sense if the twin is an illusion

@WixkedLovy
@WixkedLovy 7 жыл бұрын
Andres Dario Fernandez Well, since we can see the "fake person" you could say we're watching through the "real person's" eye and then it does make sense. By you're logic Fight Club without the flashbacks showing what was really happening wouldn't have made sense either
@andresf9072
@andresf9072 7 жыл бұрын
, the difference with Fight Club is that everything the illusion does which does not affect the enviroment (or other people) can be a part of the illusion (i.e: hitting a golf ball is part of the illusion, be it because it is never hit or because it is the phisical action of someone who thinks he is watching an imaginary Tyler doing it). And when the illusion has a phisical effect (be it over Edward's character, or other characters or some buildings) it does it in a way that could be done by this single dellusional man, i.e: the hand burning scene... they show you Tyler holding Edward, and the way they show it in the flashback IS possible... in THIS movie however, the way they hold the mother to the bed and torture her would not be possible with just one child.

Oh, I did not feel like the violence was reaching or a different tone. In my view, it just amped up what had begun, and it showed the audience that these “boys” weren’t ultimately playing around, they were playing for keeps, and it showed the depth of the psychological damage...that I won’t spoil. To me, it felt perfectly meshed, and I’m hard to please when it comes to horror. This film was stunning in almost every way...the part that I was most frustrated with, especially in hindsight, was how the mother slapped Elias around while recording him say what she made him say...that seemed very abusive on her part, not at all understanding of what he was going through...and sadly for her, she did not realize just how sorry she’d be for doing that. Everything worked out perfectly to go cataclysmically wrong. I can take a lot of gore, and this was done in very good taste, if I can put it that way, in that the squeamish stuff wasn’t overdone...it was just realistically done. I will need to go back and look at that wide shot again, because I did not catch whatever it is that you are talking about. To me, this is about as perfect one can get to a perfectly produced suspense/horror film. No complaints at all. Also, apparently in some European countries, having someone walk in like that, especially the Red Cross, is somewhat natural and even expected.

+JWUniverse Dont gauge your expectations by the trailer, it is completely misleading about the true tone of the movie, and I mean borderline lying lol Chris wasn't kidding, the way the trailer was edited was intentionally made to be a huge red herring, and 20 minutes in you will realize the movie isn't even a horror movie but a psychological thriller. Still good, just dont expect your pants to get scared off.

I watched this review for the first time before I saw the movie, so when the final wide shot of the house came up, I was intently looking all around the screen for whatever cool thing was apparently happening, but I couldn't tell what Chris was talking about. Great review, the score in RT is 77% right now so I'm really looking foward to this film especially considering that Hollywood horror is pretty much garbage (Conjuring and Oculus were the last great Hollywood horror films). Something that I love about foreign horror is that is all about te atmosphere, it sucks you into the movie right away, wich is great compared to the jumpscare shit fest hollywood seems to have right now.

I don't see what people saw in oculus I really disliked that movie. I thought everything was kinda piss poor. Especially the acting. I wasn't convinced about anything in that film. But I've been into film for years so it may be that my mind works a bit differently that it use to.

+The Wilfred The movie is great for a psycho drama/thriller. It's not really a horror movie and not only because of the missing jumpscares. It really sucks you into it and gets you thinking as you really want to know what the heck is going on and what to believe. After the movie I had to read a reddit thread about it so I could really understand what was going on, but rewatching the movie once or twice should also be enough to know what exactly happened. Great movie the american trailer is shit tho' as it makes it look like a horror movie. Watching it in german was really horrible tho' as the austrian slang is just so weird and even us germans can't understand half of the stuff : - )

Just cause I said I didn't like oculus doesn't mean I like shitty horror movies haha. I can't stand those quick buck shitty movies. My favorite horror movie has to be the reanimator. It's really cheesy but i just love the comedic tone of the crazy scientist.

Thanks for the review! Although I am a bit curious because when no one acts normal in a horror (or any) film I usually consider that a weakness. But maybe it works for this movie. Also a foreign horror I want to see really bad is When Animals Dream. Werewolf film out of Denmark that I hear draws a lot comparison to Let The Right One In from those who have seen it. So waiting for that to be available in the Dallas area soon.

If you're into foreign film, then you might find it interesting that scandinavia just released it's first disaster movie with the norwegian film "Bølgen" (the Wave). I'm not a big fan of the disaster genre, but it's been well received and is a cool piece of norwegian film history and I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. Norwegian cinema have had a good (but slow) growth the last decade, and seem to just keep going as new genres are being explored and norwegian actors and directors are getting some international appreciation and interest (actor Aksel Hennie in Hercules, Last Knights and upcoming The Martian. Director Morten Tyldum for The Imitation Game or Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg who are doing Pirates Of The Caribbean.) For those interested in foreign film, check out some norwegian ones. "Headhunters", "Max Manus", "The Bothersome Man", "King of Devil's Island", "Kon Tiki", "Dead Snow", "Troll Hunter", "Cold Prey" and "The Man Who Loved Yngve" are just a few to check out :)

+Morgan Freeman for me it was even earlier, when one twin began calling for the other, at the very beginning. The juice scene just confirmed it, but yeah, the rest of the movie makes it all too clear even without that. I didn't watch the movie till the end, stopped when the violence began and just went to the Wiki to confirm my guess. Actually kind of disappointed I was right.

The "someone is insane" twist, to me is just as anoying as the "it was all just a dream" twist. If you tease a monster, than there beter be one. I would have liked the movie more if the trailer wasn't made to mislead.
@midnight15086
@midnight15086 8 жыл бұрын
I felt like the " twist" was so obvious that it wasn't a twist. Honestly I was hoping that the creators wanted you to think THAT, and that in the end it would be something shockingly different. Nope. Everything turned out to be exactly as I thought the entire movie. Not even a feeling of ambiguity. :-( The ending shot with the side of the house was cool but it wasn't needed to explain anything. And what's with movies and people not being able to scream when their mouth is taped, it annoys the piss out of me. You can scream pretty loud through your nose if you have to.

He is only hallucinating his brother, who died in an accident, to be there. "They" (he) tie up and torture the innocent mother and in the end, burn down the house she's in. Overall, the movie is not worth the hype.
