@jamespayne8781 yep. We have had 9 GSD'S, originally a cockapoo terrier and GSD, but when one would die we would get another to help the remaining one. Not always right away, but the majority of the last 40+ years it has been a 2 dog household.

Don't let anyone tell you how long to grieve, take all the time you need. To most of us is a pet is not just a pet but a family member. It's been almost 4 yrs since I lost my little man, he was almost 14 and I still miss him and it still hurts today he was like my third child. Much love to you all.

Give yourself grace…you won’t ever get over it because he was such an important part of your family. Fur babies give us such unconditional love! What a beautiful tribute to him. Give it a little time and then think about another dog not to take his place but rather to expand your love even more. Every family needs fur babies that come into the house❤

I am so grateful to see how you are honoring Kenji, as a dog lover myself and having had countless animals in my lifetime, it makes my heart happy to see this. I have a plot here on my land and all my dogs are together, and yes I visit and says hi to all of them. You will always love and remember such a wonderful dog. I loved seeing him in all the videos and will also miss him also. Cry when you need to, it shows your love for him. The garage floor turned out fabulous!! So glad you did something you really wanted for your forever home, as that was the reason you built that home, was to have things the way you always dreamed of. Stay strong and remember you are all in my prayers and I am thinking of you too. God Bless all of you. May I suggest putting a rock on Eli's head to slow down his growth!! He is growing up so fast. Take care of yourselves and looking forward to seeing all the progress in the next video. Love to all of you

I would suggest moving forward, as you stated at the end, rather than moving on. You're taking him with you, but life does have to keep moving forward. I'd also like to suggest that you're going to get through this instead of get over it. I don't think we should really ever want to get over a loss, but we must get through it. Little steps, breath by breath, moment by moment, day by day. The background song you picked while working on Kenji's box was perfect, absolutely perfect. Another beautiful video. I so appreciate your videos. You are gifted, and these are gifts you share with us. Thank you!

Agree. Never get over. My regret with some of my losses…is they were buried where I no longer live. When my daughter lost her beloved Rottie, my mom had him cremated. My daughter lost her brief battle with brain cancer 3 years later. Currently they reside side by side here with me. My daughter was 54 and her Rottie not quite 12. He had bone cancer in a front leg. It was opted not to try amputation because of his age and he was overweight because of a thyroid problem. They both got kicked when down. When the time comes they will both be together. We just learn to live with them in our hearts. Tears flow whenever.. like watching this for Kenji. Hugs. ❤️💔❤️💔🙏🙏
@bowed305

@@jerrilynhenson9024 I'd like to suggest some different phrasing here as well. I don't believe that your daughter lost her battle with cancer. I believe her battle ended, but I don't think she lost and cancer won. I believe she fought as well as she could for as long as she could, and then it was time for the battle to be over, so it ended. As far as where physical remains are buried, I used to think this was important, but I've changed my thinking there. The actual resting place of our passed loved ones is in our hearts and minds. I think we like to have a physical place to return to, but if the actual place isn't conveniently accessible, I think we can create a physical place of memorial that honors who they were and what they meant to us. I am very sorry for the loss of your daughter, and I'm glad you have a close place to visit to honor her.

@@bowed305 thank you for your thoughts. We don’t know how long she had it. Summer of 2015 she fell asleep at the wheel and went into a median that had a grove of trees and lost her entire left arm. She dealt with that really well. She encouraged kids to ask her questions. She had her arm out the window. She strongly suggested not to do that. Little more than a year later it was almost like she had a stroke or seizure and it affected her speech. So the accident was July 2015. The brain thing was October 2016. In November they discovered a tumor. In December they did a biopsy. Decided surgery wasn’t possible. End of January they did radiation with chemo pills. It killed a small tumor on one side of her brain. It killed the center of the larger tumor. But not the outer edges. They did nothing more. She passed in July 2017. They said it was rare and aggressive. When I’m ready she will be buried in the same grave with my mom who passed in February 2020 at 95. If I go before then, her spot with her grandparents is paid for. And the urn for burial. Right now her box is in a special box that looks like a pirate treasure chest made by her sister. We did that for a memorial then found she couldn’t be buried in it. Again, thank you for your words. Means a lot.

So sorry for the passing of kenji. We have in our family had the lose of several wonderful pets. And they do become family members. I seen something on Facebook this morning that reminded me of a time I experienced after the lose of my husband. My son-in-law was stationed in Leavenworth, Kansas Went to stay with them in my healing process. I did not know her and the grandkids had been going out to a ranch and riding horses. love watching them. When I was their age we had horses too. Wonderful life. My point is I remember the the hot summer. And the big fans that they had in the barn for the horses. You probably already thought of them or have them. But they are predicting a very hot summer. You were on my mind very early this morning. You family means a great deal to me. God bless.😊

Sorry for the loss of Kenji. It really is hard to loose a furbaby. We lost both a dog & cat that was family to us. It takes time & grieve however long you need to. Just know time will make it better. ❤❤ We did our garage like this 7 yrs ago, even up the sides. We love it! We have the flakes, but we also had them to put beads in the top coat so it wouldn’t be slick. It’s still slick. Just a little when it rains & we walk from the driveway into the garage. It’s really slick, I mean really slick when we have snow on our shoes & hit that garage floor. Now we have a strip of indoor/outdoor carpet we lay down at the entrance before we go to shovel the snow. This way, we have something to step on, when we come back in. We can shake off the snow & get out of the snow shoes or sneakers once inside. Just be careful. They say it’s not slick, but it is. 😳😬

Kenji the 'boss' is still there watching your work ,in his favorite spot his spirit is there...you feel it?. Moving on with work is the best way to deal with this grief, you will feel his presence there with you while working I am sure.Love the flower garden box memorial idea!

Those moments of remembrance never go away. It’s been 14 years since I lost my first dog, and I have lost two more since then. I still have those random moments. It will hit at the oddest times and anything can bring it on - a noise, smell, thought, memory. At first the loss crushes your soul, but eventually the tears turn from pain to smiles (happy tears) because he is always going to be in your heart. ❤️

My last dog that passed really did me in. She had seizures and then cancer on her leg. (Couldn't operate due to seizures) I told my family no more dogs because my heart was just broken. Six mths later my daughter got me a dog. I'm so glad she did!!!Blessings to you.

We lost our Boston just before he turned 13. We did everything we could for him, but he succumbed to his illness. Our hearts were broken. BTW-We had our garage floor done shortly after our house was completed. It’s been down for 7 years now. We absolutely love it! It’s easy to keep clean and looks great. You’re going to appreciate it as much as we do.

Definitely a nice looking floor finish! As for losing, and grieving Kenji... My mom has told me for years, that you will never run out of love to give to dogs. Took me over five years. Didn't think I would ever get another dog, but because of my mental health issues, thought that getting another dog for emotional support would help. Adopted a 5 year old female GSD. Getting this breed with minimal dog experience (one dog. 30 lb terrier mix) probably wasn't the best decision I've ever made, even though I made sure to become as knowledgeable as I could, when I got my first dog. My Lucy turned out to be a very fearful, and reactive girl. Humane society listed her as "dog tested". This was my main criteria for a new dog. Long story short, because of her fearfulness, she is very dog aggressive. It's been a lot of work, and there was one incident that pretty much destroyed my confidence. Dogs with behavioral issues are extremely challenging, and I was not prepared for this. Have taken her as far as I can, with my training experience. Time for help from an experienced trainer. Despite all of this, it never entered my mind to return her. She was at the shelter for a couple months, so I literally ripped her away from what she was comfortable with. She will never go through that again, no matter what. I've always believed that everything happens for a reason...

I love the tribute you built for Kenji, he deserves a special resting place at his home near his loving family. ❤ I’m impressed with all the local tradesmen that have worked on your home and now Gaby, they are so friendly, helpful, skilled and professional. Such nice people in Idaho, reminds me of the friendly good hearted people here in the Midwest where I live.

That was so touching.. had tears through this whole video.💔😪 Grieving with all of you, & missing your dear dog along with you all. The memorial place for Kenji is so special.. loved that headstone, & the flowers will be beautiful. 💐It's wonderful that you did this together. I'm sorry for the sadness you feel, & missing Kenji each day & night. My heart goes out to all of you. ❤💓 Each day I miss all of the fur family members we had over my 70+ decades of life. Each one has been a very best friend to me. But, like you said, I believe we'll see them again, & will be with them forever...so comforting. Thinking of you & many prayers for comfort for you all.🙏💓🙏💕🙏💞🙏💖🐕

The tears just started flowing as soon as they started talking about him. Poor pup. So sorry it was his time, but he was such a good boy, good company to the kids. It’s so tough. I still feel the same way about our beloved dog and cat, which we had for 15 and 18 years. The garage looks awesome. My son has that and he loves it. Such a nice touch…

Everything is looking wonderful. You have made some excellent choices for your finishes. Kenji's grave is perfect. I can imagine how beautiful it will become in the months and years ahead. That was thoughtful of you. Please remember that grief has no pull date. Everyone grieves at their own pace and just when you think you are done, you may find yourself doubled over with another wave of it. Just keep loving and supporting one another. Because you are such good dog parents, I hope you will welcome another pup one day. Just not today.

Love the ending with Eli hopping right on and riding it out… what a great metaphor to your current grief. Grief can be a rough ride but if you embrace it like Eli saddling up, in the end it’s gonna be alright.

What a beautiful tribute garden for Kenji. Jeremy, that Croc Coatings flooring is the best decision you have made. I have that same flooring in my shop and love it. Just yesterday I had an oil spill on it and it just wiped up without issue, no residue. Loved seeing Eli and his mutton busting rides.

That garage floor is so nice. I love how they carried it up on to the wall. The flower garden for Kenji is a nice touch. My nephew bought my mother's house from her estate. One of his first projects was to make a flower garden where so many of our family pets are buried. He placed a fire pit next to it so we can spend time wirh them still.
