The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 has been launched, and here's our in depth tyre test, comparing it to its predecessor, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, and one of the current market leading tyres, the Continental PremiumContact 6.
All three sets of tyres are tested in dry and wet handling, dry and wet braking, noise and comfort, rolling resistance and aquaplaning to give you a full overview on how each tyre performs.
Any questions or comments, please ask below!

Also huge props to his honest, objective review. He could've been swayed, even subconsciously, to avoid criticizing the Goodyear given he was at a Goodyear test facility. He's an honest reviewer and at no point did it feel like a Goodyear promotional video. I'm a tire nerd and enjoy his reviews.

I've just had 4 of the new F1A5's fitted to an MX-5 and the change from the OEM Bridgestones is huge. No more sketchy oversteer in damp conditions. Can't wait for it to dry up to really push them and see how they compare to PS4's I've previously used

Unless your MX-5 is boosted you won't be having any troubles pushing those tires with it in any conditions apart from wintertime. They stick to the road like shit to a blanket, both wet and dry...
@Courtathor

16000 miles, two track days, coilovers fitted with ~2 degrees of camber, and one rotation later, the fronts are at 2mm and the rears at 1.6mm. Up until around 2.5mm they were sublime for both wet and dry grip, easily keeping up with more exotic stuff on track. Steering feel and feedback could be improved, but that's in part due to the MX5 ND having a pretty numb electric rack anyway... Can't complain about wear really, one of the track days was in 25c+ heat with fairly long sessions as well, along with around 3000 miles around Europe trying to keep up with an F430. Quite progressive at the limit, and allows you to have small slip angles without struggling to keep it there. I think the one thing I am missing with them is response on initial turn in, as they can feel quite numb on first input. Once past that they are fine though. Only thing now is what next? I'll likely be going up one size to 215/45/17, which means either PS4/F1A5/PC6 as normal, but also opens the door to the Cup 2, however wear and wet grip/aquaplaning will take a hit. Any thoughts?

I was just thinking that. Some cheap tires are very good, mostly they are from Thailand, Indonesia, ect. Not China. Great quality for an amazing price. Kelly is not great I can tell you, 1990s tires. Cooper generally crap too these days, they haven't come up from the 2000s, a time when I sold a lot of them. Even thier best new tires I dont care for, dry rot, wear ect. I've been in the biz 20 years. I'm running Thunderers or GT radials today on my cars. Great for the money. Half the price of lower end name brands. 1/4 the price of a Michelin!! LMAO Thunderer Mach 4 are not 1/4 the tire of a Michelin more like 10- 15% less performance in 3 seasons. Now I've rode on some kellys and coopers that felt like they were much worse than these Thialand tires. Those were a whole 20% step down.

After picking up some Conti TS 860s for my 280 Superb in the winter thanks to the channel (no snow though, natch) I came right back to look at the new summers. I was probably looking at MPS4 anyway but now, if I can find some, will pick up some F1A5 depending on the price. MPS4 are avalable at £151 a corner fitted. Finding them though is proving difficult in 245/40/19. Only seen them at Mytyres right now and at £688 for 4, compared to £544 for 4 MPS4s from Protyre (with the £100 Michelin cashback offer) its probably going to be those! Keep up the good work. Even though I'll probably not need new tyres now for a couple of year I do still enjoy the content.

Nice comparison and I am glad with the result as I just bought and mounted the GY Eagle F1 Asym 5 on my Citroen C5. It is not a sports car but it is fantastic on the highway and I sometimes have a heavy foot and therefore decided to replace my GY Efficient Grip Performance 225/55/17, which made around 75.000km (45.000miles), had still plenty of tread (about 4,5mm), but were 6 years old with the EF1Asym5. BUT what I noticed the most was the difference in tire behaviour as a result of different LOAD INDEX and EXTRA LOAD (XL) property of the tire. The difference is very noticeable, the EFP wich were 101V and XL were louder, harder and more direct and the EF1Asym5 97Y (not XL) are more comfortable, quieter and have amazing braking but you notice the softness of the tire wall when making sudden changes of direction. I really put a lot of effort in choosing the 225/55/17 97Y model as the load and speed indexes were more than sufficient for my car. Later, after I bought the new tires Asym5, I noticed the sticker on the car that specified the 97W or V as the default tire for my vehicle and also added tha they be Michelin Primacy HP ... ... ... BUT how to choose the optimal tire for a specific car in regard to LOAD INDEX and SPEED RATING and XL option as well? Would you do one episode on that? Comparing the same size and model tire but with a different load index, speed rating and XL option ... wouldn't that be something?! And consequently check tire ware and so on. PLEASE do one episode on that as it is such an important thing that we forget to consider and usually let the service clerk decide for us, as long as the model and size are ok. But the differences are very big. So guys, are you with me? Would you like to see that? Or am I the only one bothering with those details?

It's been a week since I purchased a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5"s 235/45R17, can say that they have great wet grip/braking and fuel economy has also improved. Perhaps its just me, but I would really like to know the weights of tyres too! Especially compared to the Michelin PS4 in the category of tyre. Some of us choose lighter wheels at the expense of looks, and although i'm not saying I would choose a light tyre over a heavy one without the other components of grip, feel and wet handling being important, I do think these tyres are all pretty close (including the MPS4) and I would be interested to know which is the lightest.

Can almost become unstable and have serious over-steer on the highway, especially when changing lanes while accelerating, with the wrong tyre. I have had all three tyres, and I am a huge fan of the Goodyear 5. Presently got the PC5, been a short while and I am impressed. I changed my tires pair by pair and the originals were SC5s, so I tried to keep in line with those. Despite being positively impressed by PC5 and the mileage is too early for a final judgement , nothing would have kept me from buying the Goodyear if I changed all four. Contis still feel somehow like grand touring tires and not the sportiest of the competition, and I don't think I prefer that. Great review, cheers!

The 5’s are quite a keen price for my Suzuki Swift Sport. The Conti’s are quite a bit more and don’t seem to be able to handle track work, which is no good for me. Although the (old stock) 3’s are a little cheaper, I think the 5’s are a good enough leap forward to get my money.

I’m looking at the AS 5 for my SUV because the fuel efficiency rating is “A”, wet grip is “A” and the road noise is only 69db and the price is good. Plus according to reviews it’ll last longer (miles-wise) in comparison to the continentals.

The Canvas Discussions tool is employed to host, organize and moderate an online threaded, written discussion with both posts and replies from each student. Class discussions can be limited to small groups or can be “open for anyone” for the whole course. Canvas Discussions offers an integrated structure for class discussions, enabling both teachers and pupils to begin and contribute to the discussion topics as many times and information as they wish. Great video, although I would have skipped the Asymmetric 2 and added the PS4. The holy trinity tested. But I understand the asymmetric 2 was needed for showing the asymmetric 5 improvements. Between the PS4 and the CPC6 I would also choose the Continentals for the test. People seem obsessed with the PS4 and forget how equally good the alternatives are, specially the CPC6. Great work, keep it coming. Cheers. PS: Now I'm getting 4 CPC6s. 😁

I've always been pretty disappointed with Continentals that I've owned, though I do think they have been getting better and better year on year. Going back several years, I did a VW track day in 2011 in my MkIV GTI 1.8T (everyone else was running MkIV and MkV R32s, as it was an ostensibly "R" trackday, just open to all VWs). I was running Continental ContiExtreme Contact DWs for the first time (after having run Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2s previously, a really excellent tire that preceded the Pilot Super Sport) and the Contis wore way, way worse in the sessions than the Michelins ever had over multiple track days. And I was getting off relatively easy in my 4-cylinder GTI. All the R32 guys, with that heavy cast iron VR6 way up front, were just PUNISHING their front tires and brakes. A fellow driver with a MkIV R32 also started the day with near-new (1200 road miles) Conti Extreme Contact DWs, and they were chunked to the cord by the end of the day. Set done. In my experience: Michelins don't do that very readily, and neither do Bridgestones, Dunlops, Yokohamas, or Pirellis. But Continentals sure do. Your 6 looks a lot better than what I'm used to from Contis from a session, but it's still pretty poor. I'm glad Continental seem to have sorted out their sidewalls with the 6, finally. The Conti DWs I owned those 6-8 years ago felt so woolly and unsupportive in the sidewall that it just killed the way that car drove and responded and really robbed me of confidence while driving in all situations, I really regretted the purchase massively, and happily re-sold the tires with more than half tread remaining to pick up some Michelin PSSs. I just couldn't stand those Contis to keep them until they wore out.
