It’s been just about a year since we tore down the moderately repairable Pixel XL 2, and today we’ve got the Pixel 3 on our table. The latest iteration of Google’s flagship phone has the same processing power and the same cameras as its big brother, plus an all-new display. The fact that you don't have to remove the screen to replace the battery seems like a big plus for me. in fact, it's now the biggest deal breaker for me (having broken broken my Pixel screen trying to replace the battery).

I was hoping you would talk about the wireless charging element that you removed around 1 minute. I can see it for a second right before you remove the battery but you don't say anything about how that comes apart.

I think they should have added one more Plus. The back can be removed from the phone to replace the battery without risk of damaging the screen to replace the battery.

Can you tell us what kind of microphone is in the phone for video recording? This would answer a lot of questions about the bad quality of the sound.

Hi, thanks for the video! Did you heat this up to take the back off? Or were you able to do it without heating?

Excessive heating and pick use. I used guitar picks(.60mm Dunlop) and the ifixit triangle pick after starting a corner with a razor blade. Had to use a car dent puller to apply opposite force after heating the back with my cheap AF wagner heat gun. Battery also requires heat as your tabs will likely break as this is a seriously lacking “technology.” Adhesive pull tabs are as useful as a urinal in the ladies room(excuse my crass but I’m drinking to keep my patience) I honestly wish I would’ve recorded this tear down as I took my time since the tutorial is condensed into under 5 mins while omitting seriously scary land mines. This repair will take you over an hour without the proper heating equipment. And even then, just take your time,be ready to walk away and come back. I thought the Note 11 was intense, but the second you pop the back, bob is your uncle. This phone is designed to break and get tossed in the bin. Thanks Google design engineers 🙏

I dropped my Pixel 2 XL, and the back camera lense shattered. The Back glass panel and screen glass were both unharmed. So maybe the camera lense being glass should also cause a negative?

came here to see the location of the wireless charging magnet circle.... right in the middle.... im trying to have a magnet plate so i can use the car magnet vent holder thingy.. i hope wireless charging will still work with a metal plate in between.....

Mark Robert Rowlands it’s not. Its not even close or anything impressive. I dunno if these youtubers were paid to say these things or what. The screen on the pixel 3 is trash. At least it does on the one that i got.

do longer antenna cables mean better signal reception? ive seen other phones with very short antenna wires and some with none like iphones and blackberries

Antenna length is relative to the wavelength of the signal being sent/received. Better reception comes from a multitude of other factors such as distance from signal source, placement of antenna (such as where you hold your phone), and several other things.

All of those adhesives... if you were to repair the phone, how would you put all of the components back together without your own little stash of “stretch-release adhesive”?

Wrong beginning, first heat up the backside to make the glue weak and give out the sim too. Otherwise the case breakes, it happened me the first time I tried to open.

I've seen another teardown video that says they just refuse to work, although there will be no damage. Makes sense as the drivers are expecting a certain device in those slots and won't initialize properly otherwise.

The 2014 iPhone 6 Plus and the 2018 Pixel 3 has so much in common. The 6 Plus has a 5.5 inch FHD screen with a 2915 mAh battery, and the Pixel 3 also has a 5.5 inch FHD screen with a 2915 mAh battery

I don't care if it can fly. I am still using my old nexus 5 and it is great. So why would I waste all the extra cost for the latest. Just why. The new phone is marginally better but for the day to day stuff my money is stuck in my pocket till Google gets it's feet back on the ground to the subsidies and inevitable sucking data that pays them huge monies.
