The part where you mentioned it's not using the telephoto lens on the Pixel, is because it isn't. The telephoto is 4x on the Pixel and 3x on the iphone. Meaning of course it looks more digital as the Pixel is cropping in digitally, and the iphone is using it's telephoto lens. Not really an apples to apples comparison, and not sure they can fix that with a software update.
@nickmotsarsky43822 жыл бұрын
I saw another review that said there is no option at the moment to use the 4x lens for portraits on the Pixel. Enabling it would be the fix. Just have a 1x/4x Portrait selector.

They can't fix 2x beyond incrementally improving the computation quality on digital zooms. The real fix is offering a 1x and 4x portrait. 4:45 it's obviously because the Pixel has the only portrait where the electrical tower at back touches the edge of the boy's black hair. In both other photos, it's behind the head - causing less confusion within the algorithm. Same thing at 17:45. Although A15 bionic is maybe the 20th generation, Google's Tensor first gen is really competitive to companies that have years and years of experience, learning and research on their own processors. This shows how Google is really taking this game seriously and it tells alot about how good and powerful the next generations will be ! Even this one will get waaay better after a couple of months of learning and updates ! My S10+ has been doing really amazing job for 2 years now and still going smooth and nice with no issues ! I'm planning on upgrading and I was thinking of S21U but now with the Pixel 6 pro release, it bacame on the top of my list for now ! But the only thing is making me hesitant is the long term heavy use of this new processor and how long it will survive. I don't wanna get the phone and after a year it will be exhausted and the phone starts dying lmao
@RayDusso2 жыл бұрын
Google didn't create any processor, they did a System on a chip (SOC). Tensor processor used are still the same Arm Cortex X1/A76 CPU used in older Snapdragon. Apple use their own custom CPU microarchitecture also designed by ARM and produced by TSMC. The real advantage for doing this is to get rid of Qualcomm middleman cut.
@nahush62992 жыл бұрын
Maybe because much of what Google did is focused on the design part or the configuration rather than actually doing R&D on hardware? Tensor still uses the same old ARM cores & Mali gpu(a different config) that every other smartphone has. Not taking away from the effort & research put into the design & software part but it is what it is.

pixel telephoto is 4x, so when you are doing 2x, it IS digitally zooming from the main sensor...
@Paperstations2 жыл бұрын
yeah but that is how the pixel 6 handles the portrait mode.. I don't think it has an option for 4x portrait mode for what ever reason. so that's sort of Google fault. other reviews note how weird it is for the phone to zoom in and crop instead of giving option to use other camera 🤷
@scottishbarnss2 жыл бұрын
Great observation on the night photos exposure time. With a much larger sensor than before, there's literally no reason for the pixel to require more than 1s of exposure time, hand held. They need to adjust their algorithms for default night mode shots with options for manual exposure time because real world usability > slightly boosted unrealistic shadows
@Quoutub2 жыл бұрын
Yes, this issue exists at least since the Pixel 3a (takes up to nearly 7 seconds). I did send feedback to Google, but they don't listen. I never understood why some reviewers praised Night Sight because this issue exists since at least the Pixel 3a as I said and HDR+ enhanced performs better. Some reviewers simply don't know how to examine image quality. The main problem is the exposure time per frame: 1/3s-1s per frame. HDR+ enhanced is much faster and sharper due to 1/5s per frame, but Pixel 4/5/6 don't have HDR+ enhanced. It's a huge issue and makes Night Sight nearly unusable. The Pixel 6 captures nearly 3 times as much light per time as the Pixel 3, so there's really no excuse.

For night photography, you should mention lens flares in many of the shots. I noticed it being especially bad with iphone lenses and sometimes with s21 lenses. It's really hard to remove, more so when you edit photos on the phone.

@@dannywinget Yes, but note that this would be in a different mode because Google's algorithms seem to only process 12 megapixels of raw data per frame because Google uses the analog binning mode of the sensor, which reads out 12 megapixels. Yes, hopefully Google gives us a 50 megapixel mode.

@@Quoutub maybe next year with a more powerful processor. They won't enable by default outputting the 50 mpx as it will ruin the image of the power of the current processor in phone. Actually iPhone has the most powerful processor.

Isn't it actually more fair to have all the AI/smart features turned on? Most people will use it like that I'd imagine and the company probably expects that as well. If one manufacturer doesn't have it it's their problem. On the other hand it can make test results unbalanced so it's a tough call

Would have loved to see the 6 Pro tele lens used for portraits (not portrait mode, just actual shots of the models), as well as for macro. Other comparisons have found it to produce exceptional results in both areas, and it could make the difference for someone comparing between the regular 6 and the 6 Pro (or something else). Otherwise, really appreciate the video!

I can't believe that Google still hasn't improved portrait mode. It still seems to be as unusable as the portrait mode of the Pixel 3. And it still seems to choose a 1.5x crop (even when you choose 1x) and even doesn't let you choose the tele camera for portraits. And you can't choose the intensity of the blur before taking a photo.

Deep and fair review, unlike many other popular channels, this one doesn't tend to tactically move iPhone to better or draw with other top models that are overall better. The only thing I miss is comparison of the video mode in 4K @60 fps and FullHD, 30 and 60 fps.
