Because of this I find chat gpt useless. I try to use it to help in creative writing for non commercial purposes. I don't write anything pornographic yet run into "I am AI i can't do that". Even in other research if it thinks it's anything adult in nature it says it can;t do it.

As a kid I used to play in streams and puddles and make things with sticks and rocks and go on my bike and play with the dogs. Google is a business with advertisers and financiers that care about these things. Of course they should fix this. To release it as is definitely means losing revenue when advertisers and financiers pull out. They aren’t going to risk loss just because people can’t wait to use it when they know your fees won’t cover the loss and you aren’t going anywhere. Most likely, all they’re going to do is build in an option to turn off the ability to generate explicit imagery. Not as simple as some people think when dealing with the amount of data in question. I think Google knows their business and far more about tech and any of us. If they thought public release was a good idea, they would have done it.

There's an AI called Offrobe which has both mature and clean mode and it's privately encrypted. You pay for the service you want and willing to use. Meta can use a blocker that requires the user to rewrite some texts or allow it pending the client provides age credentials and their work will be blocked to viewers who are not invited by the client. People will make whatever crap they want so we might as well allow them providing filters and security are used by every viewer.
