There's a bipartisan super-majority of congresspeople who wants it in voted on in the lame duck session, and so does President Biden, and that there are 60 votes to pass it. Tell them this is the LAST CHANCE we have to get any meaningful anti-trust legislation done for years, because that's the truth.
Jeremy Stoppelman, CEO of Yelp, shares how his company survived Google's attacks and also how Microsoft was prevented from killing future innovation, how Google benefited from that, and now they're pulling up the ladder. We need to make sure big tech doesn't strangle little tech.

I bumped into Garry a month ago at WebSummit in Lisbon. Having been his follower for half a year now and admiring his positivity, energy and the benefit he shares, the most I expected was to thank him for his content and efforts for us. Garry not only listened to my thanks, but also gave me 5 minutes, listened to my story of creating an energy startup in Ukraine during the war and shared information about his own experience. I was really impressed and inspired by this meeting. I liked the integrity of Garry, that he is the same in life as he is on screen: lively, positive and sincere. I still remember when I was at Google seeing an internal build of the first cut of the Shopping tab. Ads were intermixed indistinguishably with natural search results. I challenged this but it was ignored.

I had a very similar story to yelp. Had a great growing revenue positive tech company which had a technology and service superior to any other. Then in the matter of a few months the whole industry was devoured by the tech giant. You are doing a very important job !

If I open a store and sell my own cookies at that store. If other cookie companies want to sell cookies at my store they can but I will have my products in key areas of my store just like google does. If other cookie companies don’t like it the can go to another store. They knew what they were signing up for

The point isn't that Google's products are bad. The point is that Google is using its monopoly power to kill competitors in the crib. "KZfaq is awesome" and "Google is anti-competitive" can exist at the same time.

@@evanoder9604 Yes, but do we know what the offer amount was? In many cases, a below-market offer is simply a way to lay legal defense groundwork down the road. Just look around.. this crap is happening everywhere. Amazon does it to their own third-party vendors too. It just doesn’t sit well with me in most cases.

On a common sense level, you do kinda think that Google should have the sense to not preference its own results unfairly. Although the reviews use case likely comes with a number of interesting complications where the expedient choice may well be to preference Google Reviews (even in the absence of any ill intent). Yelp itself has a rather predatory reputation, where you can't quite be sure of them surfacing the best reviews either. Anyway, this is one of those issues where I feel that the structure of corporations as they currently are, makes optimally delivering value more difficult. You're stuck in the choice between different possible compromises.
