Personal information such as phone numbers, email and home addresses have become more easily accessible over the internet. But getting that information taken down isn’t so simple.
WSJ reporter Maddie Ellis joins host Zoe Thomas to discuss the possible ramifications of having personal details one online search away, and what steps you can take if you want to have yours removed.

It is a double edge sword. Germany protects the criminals more than the citizens. You cannot opin what you think about a criminal without risking being prosecuted or sued. In US you can express your opinion as freedom of speech and only with exceptional clear intend of malaise you may be sued.

@@maestrovso it is a double edge sword, but for the reason that it slows down progress. What do you mean by " You cannot opin what you think about a criminal" ? I don't think there is anything one is not allowed to say

I think in the first place, one must be very aware about what informations we are providing to the internet. That one step itself would make a really big difference i guess.

After finding myself on White Pages several years ago I went down the Rabbit Hole of data miners. I spent two weeks deleting myself from the internet. If these sites want my information they need to pay me! If not take it down.

Your info is out there on people search sites. Great. But don't worry, no one will find you, because the info they are selling is most likely wrong.

Why would anyone use their real names on social media to begin with lol. Anonymity is the only right to preserve the rights of the real world - the right for things to disappear and the right not to be quoted line-by-line for every single conversation you've had with different people - so, guys, keep your screen names different from site to site and keep anonymous.

Social Media has very little to do with the available information, in the US anyway. Social media adds to it, but people's addresses aren't readily accessible because people put it on their social media.
