Gordon is just genuinely a good hearted individual! He also is so good talking with people, he is able to coax honesty from folk in situations where it isn't necessarily easy to come complete with the truth. Initially, he presented himself as a rude, hardass when I first became aware of him as a famous culinary figure. In my youth I worked under many chefs, as I was interested in a career in that field. It is fairly standard to be dressed down, given attitude or just otherwise be used to the tyrany which comes from the kitchen head. They really emphasized that when he came on the scene and became known to the entire TV land general public. He definitely is honest and very direct but so much more then just the rude angry chef that kept his students living in fear and walking on eggshells. He is just a really good man!
