Two words that struck a cord with any Lineside enthusiast are "Gordon's Driving " as you knew that you would be in for something special from whatever loco he would be driving that day as Gordon was renowned for having the regulator up in the roof of the loco cab . Gordon started work at Carlisle Canal shed in the early 1960s, later moving on to Kingmoor steam shed. Following retirement from E.W.S. the railway soon beckoned him to return - to West Coast Railway Company, from which he has now finally retired after well over 50 years of railway service, his final driving turn being the York-Carlisle 'Hadrian' on July 2nd.This video shows plenty of footage of Gordon at his best driving various loco's over Shap, the Settle & Carlisle and Beattock .One clip that I thought summed Gordon up was his effort to nurse a poorly 45231 into the loop at Shap summit after the engine suffered mechanical failure shortly after Tebay .

Steve, a fitting tribute to a special man. Spoke to him at Kirkby Stephen last wk end (11/08/18) He was there to photograph 45690, I got the chance to say thanks for all the enjoyment he's provided over the years, his only comment ,He'd had equally as much fun doing it. Thanks again

Fantastic footage of several locos that Gordon Hodgson drove, and some brilliant locations. The double headed black 5s in the snow on the S&C I think could be the trip I had on 44871 with Gordon on the regulator in January 2013 , a memorable trip. Thanks Steve for showing us your superb film, regards Stuart.

A lot of these shots....look at the amount of unburnt carbons going up the stack. Do the firemen know how to fire this class of locomotive? In the days of the steam railway they would be in big trouble with their drivers! White smoke ok, but black....big trouble.
