What's that Coming out of the Fog is it a Monster !

Over the years of my filming steam tours on the mainline I have had many a foggy day or thick snow so I have put together some of the more memorable . Filmed on the Settle & Carlisle and the West Coast Mainline .
Locations and loco's are as follow

LNER 61994 The Great Marquess Risehill Tunnel .
LMS 44871 Scout Green .

LNER 61306 Mayflower Clapham.

When locomotives emerge from dense fog I always imagine they look like Battleships looming out of a sea mist. A very enjoyable compilation. Well done and thank you.

Great presentation! Thanks. No wonder that the poor loco was struggling, having to haul that 200 ton lump of scrap at the end of the train around with it!! 😁

Great video Steve. Always find that foggy conditions adds to the atmosphere and holds the exhaust low to the ground. Unusual to see a compilation in fog . Nice idea, works well. Kind regards C&A

Brilliant. Well worth the effort and dedication in conditions that most people (myself included) would probably have said ‘nah, not today’. Really atmospheric - I love the Oliver Cromwell clip with the reflection of the headlamp on the tracks.

Thanks Gerard , the evening I was waiting for Cromwell at one point all you could see were the electricity pylons sticking out of the fog but thankfully it cleared a tad 👍

Nice one Stephen, snow and fog add to the drama with the loco's emerging from the gloom. Love the last shot at Shap with a perfect trail of smoke! Thanks.👍

Thanks David, the last shot was from a static camera as I was further round filming into the cutting but it worked better than I thought it ever would 👍

A very imaginative compilation theme and much enjoyed, thanks Steve - that final Shap sequence gets my Clip of the Day vote! Without going into the detail of the physics behind it, the misty conditions give a tremendous boost to the sound and tend to reduce the effect of unwanted noise. The lone person standing there watching makes it seam so much more powerful and present. And I always thought of the steam engine as being alive, but I never thought of the bellowing smoke as a creature before. It really does appear like that in this one. :-)

Thanks Sammy , I was further round for the last shot as that was a static camera catching more of the approach shot as I just filmed the cutting but it is pretty dramatic I must admit 👍

Hi,Steve thanks for that it was hard work but if you had a good driver and I did for two-year and we worked days about it was a good job kids come up to use and we let them on the footplate 👍🚂 keep the videos please Regards Phil.

Thank you for your selection of LMS engines, only one clip of a BR engine and a B1. I guess your a LMS fan. Nice footage, pity about the variety, no GWR and no Southern engines.
