Btw, I've rolled with Gordon, and it was the most confusing time of my life lol. He basically let me do whatever I wanted, and it just didn't work, and then somehow he was working his way to my back, going slow, and choked me effortlessly. I've seen him let himself be put in a fully locked triangle, and very nonchalantly sort of shrug it off like it wasn't even a threat.

to be a little fair to amateurs. these guys are training multiple times a day every day, so they need to do a lot of lower intensity training. people training 3 times a week can get away with more reckless training. but i completely agree that the injury risk is still not worth it regardless of the training volume

Definitly agree. Been grappling for a decade or so, and love to roll with technical students. What bothers me are the students from white to purple who go squeezing like its adcc. When I find a technical student, I tend to roll as often as possible with him. There arent very many of em over here.

In all honestly though GR looks like the ideal training partner. Slow paced, lets you work and think and process, even gives you opportunities but will return with sharp technique but still being gentle enough to keep everyone safe and uninjured and most importantly no ego.

I am far from being a Gordon Ryan, HOWEVER I've spent the last 3 years defending, escpaing, and better believe it, instructors are in awe of how easy I make it look. The more you defend, the more you escape, the easier it looks. I feel better after viewing this, I was feeling guilty for looking shallow and lazy at defending with ease, but if Gordon does it, so can I. Lot of subtle movesshort degree from outside the axe of this, brief look the other way, smile step inside, etc, etc, and the entire sequence of your mate is out of sink, even looking timing way off. I love how Gordon trains. I can keep rolling in a similar fashion.

He wasn't trying to escape your average standard scenario. He was 1) allowing his partner to work and improve his position, purely for the benefit of said partner, and 2) he was hoping to get into an esoteric position and work his way out of it. You need reps in every variation of a position. It takes a bit of experience to appreciate the methodology here.
