It really was! I’ve never been anywhere quite like it! They were so beautiful to watch and be amongst. And yes, the equipment held up fantastically! Especially in the dark forest. The 23mm is definitely one of my favourite lenses, it’s brilliant. And I was very chuffed with how the 100-400mm performed, especially in low light! 🙃🦍

Thank you! It was incredible! It varied as the gorillas were moving about, the silverback was always further away than the rest but most were about 5-15m away (obviously some shots in the trees were further away). My first shots were with a 23mm so you can see roughly how close they were there :)

That is a very lovely quote, I like it a lot. And yes, I think a lot of folk know they are critically endangered. It is such a shame as they are incredible creatures - as are all. It is great what the rangers and local people are doing in the national park to protect them 🦍

@@wildandfreevictoria No I said they were critically endangered but the IUCN reclassified them as now endangered along with the African bush elephant (Loxadonta Africana) also endangered from vulnerable since 2021.

Ooo right I do apologise - i read that wrong. That is bad! I thought they were still classes as CE - I must have heard this wrong when I was out there! Hmm I still think they need a good helping hand as it would be very sad to see them go!

Hello! Thank you! And yes the xh2s is fantastic, do you plan to do just photography or also filming? And no, these images were edited in Lightroom. I don’t tend to edit my images loads, I find Fujifilm colour science and tones fantastic straight out from the camera. The gorilla images were edited in LR using the denoise feature as I had my ISO very high (over 8000) to compensate for the dark forest but that being said the camera still did great picking up all the details 🙃

I wanted primarily for video but your pics were so amazing that i was wondering if its the colors of fuji straight out of camera or post work but thanx for letting me know. Thank you and how exciting for you! I bet you cannot wait! It is a tricky decision, it depends what shots you are looking at, like overall of the group of gorillas or specific close ups. I used my 23mm as well as my telephoto but the 23mm did feel a bit far away, I probably should have taken the 33mm or 56mm. Luckily for me it was too humid (i did have any issues with lens fog) or dusty, I just brushed past a tree right at the start when changing my lenses and got water on the sensor. If you can take a little lens pouch so you can easily access and swap lenses and free up your hands that would be the best. I think you might want the extra reach at, I was just looking back at my pictures and the close ups of the silverback and eyes of the gorillas was done at 400mm and the one of his whole body was 150mm. Where as the gorillas in the trees varies from 150-350. They are quite close when you are there so it’s your call which lens but I have a feeling you might want the extra reach at 300mm. I hope that gives you an idea and best of luck. AND have a wonderful time! 🙃
