Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: The early church ministered in a pluralistic society with numerous gods, religions, philosophies and beliefs, very much like the world today. Is belief simply a matter of individual conscience? Are we being arrogant and bigoted if we try to convert someone to our own religion? The Acts 4 passage and message take us through 1) The problem with truth claims; 2) The problem with the problem with truth claims; and 3) The solution and provision for the problem.
Scripture: Acts 4:1-13

Another GREAT sermon from Tim Keller. His preaching and writing has been incredibly helpful to me over the years. So thankful for how the Lord has used him. It's certainly an appealing idea to think there could be one true religion. But all organized religions, being organized by men, inevitably will have flaws because we humans are intentionally imperfect. One culture understood this to the point of intentionally putting a flaw in their pottery. And there are elements of Christianity that are wonderful! But the Vatican unfortunately included the Old Testament in the Bible along with the New, in spite of the fact that Jesus compared the Old Testament to an old wineskin, and that his teachings, being like new wine, wouldn't fit in with it, as his depiction of God was at odds with the anthropomorphic version found in the Old Testament. This has caused tons of confusion. There's also a talk at Lake Urmia by Jesus from his pre-public ministry days, that's not in the Bible (it's in a new revelation). Here is an excerpt: 134:4.3 (1486.6) If different religions recognize the spirit sovereignty of God the Father, then will all such religions remain at peace. Only when one religion assumes that it is in some way superior to all others, and that it possesses exclusive authority over other religions, will such a religion presume to be intolerant of other religions or dare to persecute other religious believers. 134:4.4 (1487.1) Religious peace - brotherhood - can never exist unless all religions are willing to completely divest themselves of all ecclesiastical authority and fully surrender all concept of spiritual sovereignty. God alone is spirit sovereign. 134:4.5 (1487.2) You cannot have equality among religions (religious liberty) without having religious wars unless all religions consent to the transfer of all religious sovereignty to some superhuman level, to God himself. truthbook.com/urantia-book-viewer/134-The-Transition-Years/#134_4 There's only one "true" religion - the interpersonal relationship we have with our indwelling spirit fragment of our Divine Father-friend. God sends us a "friend request" with each thought he presents to us with his still small voice. He (She/It) makes a really excellent best friend!

No disrespect intended, but I've learned that your gospel is not good news for me. I remain within despair following you. I've been there and done all that before only to find myself deeper within my despair. I know that you will want to harm me for speaking my heart, but that's what I am saying this for in the first place. I just asked for love and received everything but what I humbly asked for.

Messages are often shaped by those who give them. This concept has taken so many people and given them a negative perspective of Church and Christ simply because the people who were giving the message did not do so out of love and compassion, but out of judgement and status. It was never meant to be that way. The Gospel puts every person on Earth on the same plane, where relative status no longer exists (even though some would like to believe it still does). For in the end, the Bible says that we are all sinners, no one excluded, not even myself or any pastor who ever preaches the message. Being a sinner, therefore, should not place some black mark on certain people that is bigger than others. This also means that, no matter how much wrong has been done to you, or how much wrong you have done, should have any change on the Gospel itself, but it will impact each person based on their own personal circumstances. And what the Gospel means is only this...that Jesus came to free us from the bonds of death and sin and offer us eternal life so long as we believe in Him, and to be free from the burden of carrying that sin with us the rest of our lives. Jesus then goes further to be the best friend, father, mentor, guide, counselor, healer, peacemaker, and provider you will ever have in this world. I know that words don't mean much when it comes to all the wrong you have experienced, but I hope it helps. Also...did you know that a third of the Psalms in the Bible were written by David, but not when he was king. It was when he was running from people who wrongly accused him, and found himself an exile in the desert for wrongs he did not commit. Those Psalms are him venting and yelling at God for his circumstances, and seeking out the truth. So your statement about speaking your heart...that's EXACTLY what God wants from you. He doesn't want some superficial prayer trained into your brain from tradition, or unfelt repetition of words you once spoke as a child...He wants to hear exactly what you have to say about Him. So don't be afraid to tell Him yourself ;)

Could you comment on why Jesus Christ said: "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the 'Father' except through Me." Jesus did not say God! At least I can not find a translation anywhere which says this. Father indicates intimacy, personal relationship, family, my Papa. Do you believe there may be other ways to Almighty God, albeit not through the route of free Grace? Jesus also alluded to the fact that He had other sheep folds to tend to. Do these claims, like so many others Jesus made, have significantly deeper and deeper meanings. The words in the Bible are NOT dead words on a page, they are ALIVE and they are able to convey so much more than literalist views. I know Tim you understand that what is written in the Word of God is not a once and for all thing but rather with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, understanding the Word of God is so multi-layered as to be bottomless. Dare I say it that although I am a born again Christian, and I experience the Trinity as a wonderful love affair, the overt understanding that Muslims have about understanding Scripture as multi-layered, seems to be far more obvious and accepted than it is in Christianity. This topic gets almost no coverage in Christianity, and it is too big a subject to cover here. Suffice to say I am tired of so called 'Blue Collar Christians' with their imposition and their literalist interpretations of Scripture, and their intolerant attitudes towards more mystical approaches to understanding the written Word of God. You know the Holy Spirit builds onto wherever a person's understanding is, but any previous meaning and understanding is never over thrown in any way. How clever is our Advocate, Friend and Counsellor? There is nothing and no one I trust more than my beloved Jesus Christ. ✝️

Jesus is God. Therefore, when he says that no one comes to the father except through me, He is making an exclusive claim that the only way to be saved is by trusting in Jesus to be reconciled to God the father. It's plain as day. There is no other name in heaven or on earth that man might be saved. And if you don't follow the bible, then you have a self-made god. It can't be more obvious. Keller very specifically spoke about this at 12:00 when he said the world calls this exclusivity is arrogant.
@jenniestarling2042
@jenniestarling2042 Жыл бұрын
I have no time for exclusivity at all! Jesus Christ was, and still is inclusive. Please don't bother to impose your Theology on me any further. Have you calculated the number of people who are Christians as a percentage of nearly 8 billion pople who are currently on the Earth? You do the math, and then consider what this scientific fact tells you. Or don't you have eyes to see, or ears which are capable of hearing?

. I generally find Tim Keller’s sermons informative and enlightening. However, it’s curious that he complains here of Christians being wrongfully chastised by the so-called “cultural powers that be” for professing Christianity as the only true faith. Yet, it stands to reason that Christians are implicitly doing the same thing to believers of other faith traditions who also believe their religion is the only true one. Isn’t what's good for the goose also good for the gander? . Additionally, Keller is disingenuous in his criticism that it’s “logically inconsistent and culturally narrow-minded,” as well as “dishonest and hypocritical,” to chastise Christians for asserting Christian primacy. By his own reasoning, the same could be said of those whose argument is essentially circular: that Christianity is the only true religion because the Bible says it is. . Suffice to say, this trope about Christian victimization is a popular “straw man” concocted by too many conservative religious leaders nowadays, and that’s the real problem as I see it: the arrogance and sense of superiority of those propagating this false narrative in order to galvanize support and generate animus towards others who don’t believe as they do. . As Keller himself has pointed out, Christianity is a religion of revelation and persuasion; not self-righteous condemnation, intimidation, or domination. It’s “walking the talk” with humility that brings people to Christ. Keller finally got around to saying as much in the last part of this sermon. But he didn’t need a straw man to get there.

But surely the point is that the apostles were witnesses to someone and something they had seen. And, furthermore, Jesus did not crucify others he got crucified, and the apostles did not persecute the pharisees, they got persecuted. Paul is an interesting exhibit. Later, when the church grew powerful it did persecute, etc, but that was sub-Christian. The early Christians bore witness to something they believed was true and relevant for everyone.

As you must already know, Marxism is devoid of God. Marx utterly failed to understand the human condition, and that we are not qualified to create a worker's paradise nor any other kind of utopia. Marxism created Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and the starving and murder of tens of millions of people. Marxism is utterly coercive. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is what the world needs.
