Really interesting today! Up close and personal oil change! Tips and tricks! Grandpa stories! We all have them but your memory-pokes to make sure you do it right. Pig plans! I have to say I'm really looking forward to learning what you learn with raising turkeys - no idea what that's all about. There's so much to enjoy with your videos, Tyler, but learning stuff that I wouldn't otherwise be a part of is awesome. Thanks for all you do to make these well-done videos happen!

Great analysis of raising your pigs, and it is smart to make those additions for not only present usage, but also for your future pig raising usage. The oil change had me smiling. I’ve never had a problem with the oil drain plug but I’ve had numerous problems with removing the oil filter (having tightened it too tight previously)!😂😂

Tyler, my grandfather would have us poke a hole in the bottom of the oil filter and let it drain before removal. Makes less mess that way. Grandpa's taught us all life lessons

Mud at the pig feeder could also be addressed with making wood and tire feeders and then rotate them around and through the paddock. So the impact area will be moved around and hopefully eliminating a mud congregation area.

When I raised pigs I fed them under our horse shed, but I fed mine twice a day versus free choice and they grew quick. Water wise, I had a shallow oval 100 gallon trough they drank water out of and laid in, they ended up creating their own mud hole when I dumped the trough out every 3 days lol I understand that may not be what works for you but in my experience it worked great and they never tried getting out of the pen.

I see comments on the dry pour you tried and decided to add my 2 cents worth 😊! The #1 thing I noticed was you way under watered the slab at the beginning. I’d researched the topic for my own use before your video and watched over a dozen videos on it. Most misted the dry pour until water was ponding slightly on the surface before crying quits for the 2-3 hour pause. That will take about 30 or more minutes, depending on the size of the slab; take your time and don’t rush it. The water has to seep into the center of the depth and that requires a large amount. The mist is so the surface doesn’t get pitted. After a day of misting, if the surface is quite firm and set, you can switch to a gentle spray instead. Again, water until it ponds slightly, taking your time. Watering on day 2 should still be several sessions, but by day 3 you can reduce to like 3 waterings. Dry pour isn’t ‘no work’, but rather slow and easier work. There’s not the push to finish like for wet pour, but the trade off is needing patience to water well. And dry pour can more easily be done by a single person where wet pour/ready mix almost demands at least 2 agile people. I really hope you do another dry pour using more water; I think your opinion will only improve about the method. Thanks for listening to my take on this. I really enjoy your channel; I’m a 70 year old farmer’s widow who helped in all sorts of things when I was still able 😉! Including 1200 farrow to finish top #1 hogs/year for a few years when we 1st married. With a mixer mill, 9 hole feeders and through the wall water tanks! But we didn’t get crushed by equipment payments 😉! Had more muscles than money hahaha! I’m done; take care!!

Punch a hole in the bottom of the filter. Then drain it in the pan before taking it off and it will save you from a hand and arm full of oil. Use a good size punch and make sure you get all the way through 2 layers of metal.

now you Know ! that change in sound was the tractor running on 3 cylinders rather than 4 ! remember that sound and carry a extra plug with you..... and the wrench to pull it out with... it's hard to pull a plug when the engine is hot so take a 15 minute brake and then swap the plugs.... you'll still burn yourself if your not careful but it's better than roasting just getting close to the engine !!!! I hope you get all your hay up..... better plan on new rings and rod bearings this winter.... because next summer it may completely die on you....

Tyler, this is a tip from and old timer that could give you a wider window to an engine overhaul. The part is called " Spark Plug Non-Fouler" they should be available at most any auto parts store. I believe your tractor has 14mm spark plugs but they should know for sure. Your are a great Producer on the Farm and on KZfaq.

Those old tractors often had major component swaps from other tractors because they all would pretty much interchange. I would suggest always keeping an eye out for good donor parts tractors. Maybe the engine is shot but you could still use the tranny (hey... not that kind) or the rear end and or, find one with a trashes out rear end and so on. Go ahead and have a freshly rebuilt motor sitting in your shop. It will never be worth less money than you have into it today, it's actually kind of an investment. May be time to find a reason to go back to that tractor junk yard you went to before?

Forgive me for nerding out on the tractors for a moment (I have an 8n and an NAA), but a couple of thoughts on the 8n. I would recommend, no matter how new replacement parts are, don't assume they are good. Especially ignition issues. It is pretty simple to see failures even with new, out-of-the-box stuff these days. In regards to your #3 cylinder, it would not hurt to give that engine a treatment 7or two of something like Seafoam or Berriman's to see if that might help if the rings are just sticky and certainly those valves will be carboned up. You have be worried for a moment with the PTO shaft on the NAA (Jubilee). I know you can twist those shafts on an 8n, so I assume you can on the NAA, too. Some guys literally have to cut the shaft in two to get everything apart. Take care!

I have a couple suggestions for your "hog operation"! Put rings in the noses of all the pigs and that will greatly change there rooting habits! Various kinds of rings are available to meet your particular needs! Instead of all the concrete pads which are labor intensive and "permanent", consider getting some rough cut oak or other similar hardwood to build platforms for feeders or waterers. They work, are durable, and moveable so when you want to relocate them or repurpose the pen you just hook up to them with a tractor and move them! 2x6 runners with a piece of metal strap formed in a U bolted to one or both ends for attaching a chain , covered with 2" material for the decking, built in whatever size you need!!
