There's usually a haybine or two for sale in Oregon. More so than in WA. I'm always watching for them. Transporting them is kind of tough, because they're typically 10+ feet wide, and the tongue sticks out the other direction, so you need to remove the tongue. As long as the wobble box, other gearboxes and conditioner rolls are in good shape, everything else is pretty easy to work on, and not that expensive. If you can find one with steel rolls, you'd be gold.

Hey, spencer from mn. A few years ago I got tired of haybines and bought a new 3pt double action sickle mower by Enorossi and havnt regretted it at all, I sell hay and feed my own cattle and horses it folds up and gets through gates and I mow several hundred acres, it has really improved my operation and even here in mn where its wet i havnt had troubles drying the hay check them out it saves me alot of headaches compared to old haybines. I'm starting to mow hay in a few days and im already excited to finish lol Keep up the good work, gods speed

You did a fantastic job explaining how the different plant species you have out west in that dry climate affect what the hay looks like and how you bale it. I'm not sure how our east coast stock would feel about giving up their timothy and orchard grasses, I'm sure there would be some protesting! lol If the first cut isn't at least 60-70% green I don't even think about buying it. Second cut needs to be deep green, lush and have no stems in it to pass the test in the northeast as well. Definitely different worlds. Great video

Have you looked into dry land alfalfa varieties. I grew up in western Idaho, and we had part of our ranch planted in a dry land alfalfa variety. We would get one good cutting, and then some of the better soil in the field would grow a small second cutting before things would dry out completely in July and august. We had several neighbors that also planted grass alfalfa mix dry land hay fields. Western Idaho only gets 14 to 16 inches of rain per year. It seems you have a similar climate.

Hello Tyler, I find listening to you talk so comforting and I especially love listening to you explain things as you do such a great job of letting us know exactly what’s going on or why you do what you do such as in the case of the Hay. It was really nice of you to take time out and explain to everyone why do you do what you do regarding the round bales and backing up; as well as why the hell he looks more brown and green. I did not realize your area did not get rain during the summer months like we do. It would be so frustrating , as I have come to really appreciate not only the value of rain but the sound of rain as it falls Against the windows, on the rooftops, and even on the sidewalk/pavement of the street. Iii used to not think about this at all when I was Younger, but Now,I really love the rain falling & will Often shit and listen to it coming down for an hour or two. I just wanted to say how nice your farm looked after you got done mowing and trimming everything out. It’s just amazing the difference that it makes and I love it that you take pride in your home. Again I love listening to your videos and I love the intro that you have w/ the Beautiful sunset and you saying, “And kthat’s what we have going on today at Tyler Ranch!” 😊♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I love watching your channel! My grandfather, my dad and uncles farmed all of their lives. I live in Hanford, Kings Co. Until your channel, I had never seen round bales in the valley. I saw them while visiting family in the mid west and now on other farm channels I watch! People don’t understand the climate here- the heat, lack of rain and lack of humidity ( a good thing) that we have here. I have regrets that I never drove a tractor for my dad. He was a little OCD about his lines in the land, so it didn’t want it messed up! Lol. Thank you for bringing some of my childhood memories back to me. We irrigated our whole yard with a stand pipe, played it ditches and the canal! We played in the cotton trailers and silage pits! Wonderful memories. I’m 74 yrs now so that’s been a few years ago. Thank you Love from Hanford, CA

Thank you for explaining about the hay and cutting, and why the hay needs to be a certain humidity percentage. Always a good day when something is learnt. I had a chuckle when you mentioned Pete- loves his Farm machines and also when you were explaining about no rain in the Summer. I’m a Californian who went to College in the Midwest and was surprised that everything was so green in the summer and it rained! But those rains also brought thunder and lightening which took out power poles and hit other things. The rains also came with tornados. I remember looking at the sky differently as the color, wind humidity with the clouds gave you an idea what type of storm was on the way. As always enjoyed the video, seeing Callie and the mooing of the cow at the end. Oh, the birds in the corral or barn area like to chirp, LOL

Things looking good after that tidying up on the farm! From a grass/alfalfa hay maker, my thoughts on the type of hay that you grow (triticale) is that it reminds me of the straw bales we utilize for bedding during the winter months.😂😂 However, your cattle don’t seem to mind, and they eat the triticale hay just as eagerly as my cattle eats the grass and alfalfa bales that we produce. In our area, we sell square bales of alfalfa to the equine community from our 2nd and 3rd cuts. Everything else is round baled for our cattle. Great explanation of the nature of moisture involved in baling hay! We utilize different equipment: a mower, a tedder to spread the hay to help it dry quicker, a rotary rake to make the rows, and a baler. We are used to moving all of the equipment around! Fortunately, our furthest fields are only about 12 miles from our farm, so the transporting the equipment isn’t too bad, and not all the equipment is utilized on the same day so that helps. Just makes planning and scheduling more challenging!😂😂

I have to agree with you about hay wasting with regard to using round bales versus square bales. Seems like the smaller bales are better, because the cattle have to reach in further and are less likely to spill (?) the hay out of the feeder !!

That area looks great all mowed and I hope the cows appreciate the nice flat “floor” of their corral. Tyler, now that you are able to ranch full time how on earth did you get it all done when you were also working your job? I know you have been working on some big projects as shown in your recent video’s, but just meeting the normal day to day needs of all the cattle spread over 3 properties and haying etc. plus troubleshooting some of the challenges working with and keeping large animals you must have been running on little sleep. I am sure your wife and children must be glad to see so much more of you as well. This years calves are looking great as do the bulls. Looking forward to seeing what colour calves your “blonde” bull with bring to the herd. Your steers are also looking great, I hope you get good prices for them when it is time for freezer camp.

Tyler Ranch looks great with all the weeds mowed. My question about your hay was, why do you cut it when seed heads have formed ? Shouldn't it be cut earlier so more nutrition is in the plant ? I not that familiar with hay but heard that on other channels. ( Just a few acres, 10 generations dairyman )
