I would add that dressing modestly has allowed me to be more comfortable around boys haha. I don't have to worry about them looking where I don't want them to. I like that dressing modestly allows me to maintain some feminine mystery :)

I can genuinely say I never felt like a “woman” in my adult life until I started to dress modestly! It makes me feel extremely confident, beautiful, classy, and feminine. It was really amazing to me!

The thing with dressing modestly, is that if you have a large chest or hips and or a naturally curvy body it's a challenge. These traits will be visible regardless. The baggiest of mens shirts cant cover that up. And if you dress in mens clothes you look 30lbs heavier. Turtlenecks and crew necks actually make my chest look larger than wearing a v-neck. Long skirts are nice if you're tall enough and they fit well and dont make you look boxy. With dress shirts the buttons pop open, gap, or they don't even close to begin with. Even a basic tee can look 'inappropriate' if you have a large chest. I got in trouble in like 7th grade for wearing a scoop neck t-shirt because taller boys could look down my shirt and my chest came in already. Later in life, this whole thing made it super hard to get dressed for work and my boss still made inappropriate comments about me. In a button down and trousers no less. Personally for me, clothes in general are hard to shop for to be modest but wellfitted not baggy, shapeless, or frumpy. I've struggled constantly and continue to struggle with it.

I'm soon 17, and I love modest clothing. My mom supports me fully, which is amazing, but I really find it hard to find modest clothes in stores, I need to look from the internet or other special places for them! I'm not religious or anything, I just like modest clothing. Oh, and earthy colors! Simple, old-ish clothing really makes me feel good! And no, anyone on my family has never even tried to hint that I should wear modest life.

I was the same way when I was 16 I wanted to dress way my friends were dressing. They were crop tops, booty shorts and short dresses. I couldn’t wear those because my grandmother was and still is very old fashion( she was a young adult in the 1960’s) . I was awkward and self conscious about my body and my friends had boyfriends and I didn’t. The 25 year old me started dressing modestly mainly as a test to see if guys would respect me and be interested in me more if I wasn’t showing a lot of skin. I met my husband that same year. We’ve been married for three years now( I’m 28 going on 29) I love dressing modestly. My husband loves it and I feel sexy in my modest clothes. I know every girl likes to dress differently but I prefer the 28 year old modest me versus the 16 year old me.

I started wearing dresses and skirts below the knee full-time since 2005 and I remember that feeling that Alethea mentioned. I felt more myself, more comfortable in who I am. It was a blessing. I, to this day, get compliments from all different types of people!

I've recently begun dressing modestly (in the last 1.5 years) and these are among my reasons for doing so. It's not often that I come across other women who also dress modestly where it isn't tied to religion, men, or the scrutiny of others. It's refreshing to find someone else who is non-judgemental and doesn't center others as her reason for modesty.

I dress modestly and I love it. It doesn't necessarily make me feel more feminine, (I'm not big on that, I wear mostly graphic t's and other unisex or men's attire) but it sure as heck does boost my confidence level to dress in something comfortable and that I know I look good in.

I like your honesty....I also in my heart of hearts think modesty is actually correct but have been heartily pissed off by the judgemental (whether intentional or not) attitudes and blame and shame culture surrounding it (often voiced by genuine, well meaning people). This is my life. I used to dress flashy but lately as I'm approaching my 30s I started dressing very modest. Honestly I like dressing like this and it helped me to focus on my career. I usually rotate my suits or I wear just black work pants, black button down shirt with comfy cardigan with black loafers. I replaced my chanel purse with a backpack. I feel my best with this outfit but people are extremely critical and tell me that I need to change how I dress. I am tired of hearing advice from others

I find it very difficult to dress modestly and still be attractive due to my large chest. There are so many things that would look cute and modest on someone else's body, but looks like a hooker on me. Lol I've learned to deal with it and find fashion that makes me feel good about myself, but it can be a challenge.

Love this video, I’m subscribing. I came from a Christian home growing up, and I have since left Christianity but one thing I am glad I learned from my time in the church was dressing modestly. I feel like I get more respect, especially from my friends who are much older than me. I LOVE feeling comfortable all the time, never having to worry about wardrobe malfunctions, etc. but I think the thing I love the most is that, ironically, dressing modestly actually makes me stand out (I live in South Florida). I also think dressing modestly has allowed me to stay close with my male friends- because their girlfriends are less threatened by me since they know I’m not showing my body around their boyfriends. I also wear full coverage bottoms, while everyone else here my age wears thong bikinis. I wore one twice, and the number of men staring at my ass truly enraged me. I get angry when men stare at me. That is honestly the greatest benefit and the main reason I usually dress modestly- I HATE when people stare. I’m ranting. Anyway great video 😂

I was raised tremendously strict as a preacher’s daughter. I still dress modestly. Your clothing would not be “modest” according to our religious standards as your dress is tight and your dresses/shorts are short. They would freak out. lol I love how you dress. A beautiful way of being more modest.

I just love living in long dresses, and do not feel like myself in revealing clothing. Also, I walk everywhere and am rarely harassed if I'm covered.

I did not realise how negative my inner voice was until I tried to branch out with my style. I was raised fundamentalist Christian. Even though I am a non religious adult the modesty standard that was set for me growing up is hard to shake. I am also about 6'0 tall so clothing can be a struggle. I am currently reevaluating my fashion choices. For years I would look at clothes and think "how much of me does this cover?" "how much of me can I hide?" What does that say about my self worth? Now I'm looking at clothes and challenging those thoughts by instead asking " how does this make me feel?" "is this me?" regardless if it is modest.

Thank you. I'm old enough to be your grandmother (or close to old enough) and dressing modestly is the most comfortable, confidence building way to clothe yourself. After a lifetime of wearing modest clothes that are reasonably fashionable, I can't imagine myself ever doing anything else. I appreciate your well considered video.

I like how logical and universal you made this video about modesty (aka not based on your personal spiritual beliefs). As a non-believer I still greatly value modesty. As a classical orchestra musician I work in a field still dominated by men, and I came to the conclusion that modesty is not only comfortable and practical, but also speaks of seriousness and self respect in the eyes of the general public, so as a consequence colleagues treat you in a respectful manner. I don't say all women who dress immodestly lack self respect (which in opinion means showing their private parts), but I have enough male friends to notice how they treat and speak about women who dress too revealing vs women who don't. Sometimes the bros are hilariously disgusting🤣 and it's entirely under our control if we want that kind of attention or not. Unfortunately modest outfits don't protect us entirely from being assaulted in any way, but the probability is much lower in less revealing clothes. (For example I can't go out without being catcalled in a tight mini skirt, but I can if I am just wearing a midi skirt - as sad this is, it's true.)

These are all reasons why I usually dress modestly, don’t get me wrong I’d like to wear some “sexier” things sometimes but I just feel uncomfortable when I do for pretty much all of the reasons she stated. Much more confident dressing modestly. Can’t stand wearing tight clothes.

I love your "arguments" for modesty, because it keeps out religion (which I, as an atheist often find very unnerving xD) and just focuses on really good points. My clothing style is most often quite covered but still "sexy"in the sense of "oh, its a bodycon outfit, highwaisted jeans, tight turtleneck and a belt around the waist" or something like that, but im not into showing a lot of skin, exactly because its just soooooo uncomfortable

This is my mom's account. But I am growing up in a family where we need all these rules and i don't hate it. if I wear a bikini I would feel naked. That is the stuff I wear underneath. I will back talk anyone who tells me I should dress differently. Never be embarrassed about it. EVER. ( I feel like the Amish girl of the city lol) Also I love this the only skirts I ever see are mini skirts.

I shop in thrift stores because I try to sell vintage clothing on ETSY, and where I live here in Utah we have so many great thrift stores with great clothing and good prices. I think some stores that take in clothing always have stuff you can redo or wear as is, because because you can wear just about anything nowadays. What happened in about 1997 is that pop starts like Brittany Spears came on the clothing scene and my own daughter had a hard time finding jeans that were not hip huggers and with her long waist it was hard finding clothing to cover her up, but we got through it

This is a great video! I moved to a primarily Orthodox Jewish neighborhood a few years ago and it made me much more aware of what I wear; initially I wanted to be considerate of my neighbors modesty values, but almost immediately I realized that I felt better about myself inside and outside. Another side effect, I've been sewing since I was 6 and while I've always loved making my own clothing, I became more creative and began noodling with immodest clothing and sewing it into something unique and "me." People are surprised when they ask where I got my dress and I explain that I bought a cheap spaghetti strap dress and a fat quarter or two, maybe add some lace, and I wind up with a super nifty outfit!

I like this wayyyy more watchable than unmentionable nuisance that keeps popping up EVERYWHERE. You didn't attack people or force your beliefs on anyone.

I think comfort and confidence really blend here. My first rule of dressing isn't modesty per say, it's just that before without clothing in a fitting room or in my bedroom I am usually at peace with my body and it's way of inhabiting the world, but put on clothes and I feel exposed! it's so easy to be thrown off-center. Dressing immediately sets my body in a context and prescribes which ideals my body is measured against. If my clothing makes me paranoid about body movement or troubled because it immediately fits wrong or creeps up when my weight fluctuates, If tightness is holding my body in and puts all my lumps and bumps out there, I die a little inside and I won't have it. I tend not to think of my clothing choices in terms of modesty, because being actually sexually appealing in clothing to some degree reminds me that whatever my breast and belly size I have a sexual self that can work in the right clothing visually. That me-sized, adjustable, comfy clothing that suits my idea of reasonable sexuality and doesn't need to be altered is rare, though. I have a lot of heartache from things that I leave in fitting rooms and things I probably should have. Modest clothing has all the same creativity and feminine fun and tends to be more forgiving and travel better, not only into a business wardrobe, but between seasons, since I live in a place that gets serious autumns and winters.

I like this video but I don't agree that trendy pieces are necessarily less modest. It depends on the fashion trends. 12 or 13 years ago it was trendy to wear baggy and actually deliberately unflattering clothes. There was a popular fashion blogger during that time called Man Repeller. I played a part in a sketch where I was playing a character who was much older than I was, and I chose very conservative clothes including a brown cardigan sweater and a guy told me that's what trendy high school girls were wearing and I realized he was right. A few years ago floor length blanket sweaters were all the rage. So I don't think there's a connection between immodesty and clothing manufacturers saving money on fabric.

I appreciate all of the thought you’ve put in to both sides of the spectrum, and as a mom who homeschool three kids and is a conservative Christian, I also see things from your mom’s point of view (as well as yours). I also watched your video on your vision for this channel and so appreciate the heart behind it and wanting to help teenagers, while being saddened that you felt abnormal at church. I’m so very sorry that happens... it is deeply heartbreaking to me as I’ve seen some of the after effects spiritually as well. I've been watching leveling up u-tube channels about how to look expensive. Modesty is part of that equation.

I have had several modesty dress videos pop in front of me on youtube, I guess because once I watched the first one, I clicked on another because I was curious as to the reasons those women were choosing to dress a certain way. However most of the other ones were just bad, their reasons revolving around men and attention, just frivolous reasons and as if women have to live their lives to satisfy other people (very unhealthy), also what would look modest to one person might look immodest to another (so there would be no end to the demands). However your video is the first real and healthy one I have come across! I also like that you realize that modesty will look a bit different to different women, according to their consciences and environment, and you did not tie your reasons to men or other people's opinions. If women are going to try to dress in a way that "men" find modest, there is no end to the discomfort and erasure of her own self that she will need to do, because there are some men who will sexualize anything and any woman (regardless of what she is wearing). All you have to do is look at Islamic dress, and how uncomfortable most of it is for the woman (at some point it just becomes about controlling and objectifying women). I also like how you mentioned that museum about r*pe, showing what women were wearing. I like that your reasons are for YOU and your comfort. For me I would never wear long sleeves to the gym in the Summer or when it is hot (I wear short sleeves mostly when it is hot), but for you that is modest. I think if more women embrace dressing in a way that boosts their own comfort and expresses self worth (since our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit), then most women's dress would automatically become more modest and less tight that what some women wear today. Also yes modest dress (middle ground dress, as I like to call it) would boost women's confidence more and make them less insecure about their bodies and less focused on frivolity. In the end, thinking about the modesty discussion after watching these videos, I think the terminology needs to be shifted to comfort. I realize that this post turned out long, but thumbs up to you for having the right reasons as to why you choose to dress the way you do, and for respecting other women's choices (that comfort and the concept of modesty will vary among women), while promoting the comfort and confidence that comes with choosing comfortable clothes over skimpy clothes. Lasty, I would like to conclude with this Bible verse: "“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" Matthew 6:25

I'm a young Christian, homeschooled girl who wants to dress modestly some days. But sometimes after I fight with my parents or they scold me, I don't want to in the moment. Then, dressing modestly feels like a cage made by my parents instead of something I choose because sometimes my father can be a bit too strict. I don't know how to balance it all because sometimes I want to because of the reasons you listed in addition to some others but I also feel smothered by rules sometimes. Idk if anyone will see this comment but I don't know what to do.

I have always loved fashion and I always strived to dress appropriately for the season, occasion and as well as my age and body type. I never showed belly unless I was out on the beach-meaning sand or water not boardwalk. I don't judge a woman who does, it just isn't me and never was. That said I like body conscious clothing. Most of the time, I only expose only one thing- like your modest bliss outfit showed off some pretty shape and if I show shape, I cover legs, arms and decolletage. So there is shape, leges, arms and décolletage. When I feel like showing off I cover 2 out of 4. Only on very rare occasions like parties and after 5 would I show off 3 out of 4. I would feel ridiculous showing off all 4 like wearing a low cut tight, sleeveless, fitted short dress. I can only remember doing that once and I was in the Caribbean, out with my husband dancing to a reggae band. I never wore that dress again, but I didn't regret buying it either. The thing I dislike about modesty culture is that it seems immodest especially if you talk about it in mixed company, "Hey I want to talk about how I cover my butt because it is so fine. " But even when the audience is all female, it seems like humble bragging. Bragging can't be modest.

I like that this is literally just a "why I like it" video, not a "why everyone should do this" video. I've gone both ways and agree with everything you've said but also get sick of the heat and am outside a lot so as cute as your top (dress??) is, I'm probably gonna skip that while it's still almost 100° lol but in the fall or early spring? Oh Hell yeah, that's super cute! P.s. Trendy clothes are super cheaply made but so are modest one's from what I've seen the last 10 years or so. I get so mad shopping at all because everything is see-through anymore! I started wearing littler pieces because I wanted to grind my insecurities into dust and feel confident in anything and I accomplished that but also, a bralette is super easy to throw on without worrying about if what you're still trying to cover is showing or not. A lot of full shirts that are marketed toward modest dressing are thin and you don't even realize your bits are showing until you're in some public bathroom and then you're horrified. I've unfortunately found, at least in my area, that if I buy things that aren't modest I tend to have a better chance at finding items that don't surprise me later.

I grew up in a very strict Christian home where no butts, bellies, or breast could show. I rebelled against that at college because I hate being controlled. Then I went super modest, head covering and all when I was trying to hold on to religion. Now I am I would say atheist but love to dress modestly because it's comfortable. It's just very comfortable not pulling at clothing all day. My neck line is lower, so that isn't the most modest, but I love a long dress and skirts.

Same for me. When I am teenager, I have skin problem. It will came at my chest, leg, hand. Etc. And I am sure especially when you are teenager, it can impact you negatively. But surprisingly, it does nothing to me other than a little bit annoyance. And I believe its because I wear modestly. Its not Im purposely hiding them. It is my style to wear long sleeves, dresses that does not show my leg, hand and chest. Due to that, most of my friend does not know about the skin problem, even myself forgot about it sometimes!
