Trading when attacking is good but only in some positions, example like if enemy king have dark squares problem u want to trade knight or light squared bishop if its defending the king, but u want to keep queen and dark squared bishop

Nigel Short has given sooo much to chess. One of my favorites, he (along with Mikhail Botvinnik) were my original teachers to chess. When I wanted to become better and understand the game more

Always loved Gary for his love of sacking pieces. Only now that I have learned more about chess can I even begin to understand what he means. The most powerful sack is the sacked piece that cannot be taken. Such beauty!

Garry was the pinnacle of the Botvinnik chess school. A universal player that had pure understanding of the position and the ability to create combinations out of no where. He truly is the greatest of all time.

Great perspective on pre engine tactics, or slaughters. Gary said he usually saw 6 moves ahead, more like 10 I'd say, but such foresight seems lacking today due to the razor defences of engine training. I'm a noob so don't hate me if I have belittled anyone, but as engines are becoming spiteful and torturing good players I wonder what new skills are needed to succeed in chess.

Greater pattern recognition maybe and a stronger sense of the geometry of the board? Someday humans will hit fide ratings of 3000+. Especially since new gms are now around 13-15 on average

The last game was worth seeing for the 2nd time and so probably is worth seeing a lot ;) btw the absolute madness of a combination there was not calculated till the end or anything, rather garry's intuition was saying that he has enough (as I remember from some interview)

Would be great if you did a series focused on how super strong GMs play certain openings, your analysis would be much better than doing that on my own... Examples: 5 games where Magnus plays the London and 5 where he plays against it; Kasparov and the King's Indian; Hikaru/Anish and the Italian; Vachier/Nepo and the Grunfeld, etc. Your analysis of the different middle game plans on the same opening and how they play against it would be fantastic!

Hello Levy! I have been a subscriber for over a year and I wanted to thank you for your videos. I had played tournaments when I was younger, and then had to stop to play chess to study. But after I turned 18, I restarted playing, teaching myself as a hobby. I could climb to 1750-1800, and now I'm 21 and I have just hit 2000 rating points just from the studying of your videos. Even Chuck Norris' greatest fear is a situation facing the beast of Baku in some dark, outlying alley. Don't run away because the last thing you should do is make Kasparow hunt you. Wouldn't end very well. There is also a video analysis of Kasparow vs. Topalow by The Big Greek from Germany. We saw the line when Topalow got mated with the pawns. Only in that one specific line, Kasparow had no pieces left but his pawns. Just amazing.

This is where Levy shines imo. Guess the elo is great and he's really funny but I feel like his passion and reverence for the game comes out in his analysis of games played by the greats. That passion singlehandedly got me into chess.

Hi Levy. Can we see some Alekhine games, please? You mention a lot that Alpha Zero “invented” h4 and all, but Alekhine did it often in his day and against strong players like Maroczy and Rubinstein. Plus he’s has killer games like his one against Reti in 1925 and all. I don’t remember if you’ve done anything on him yet. Thanks. Cheers

In the 2nd game, where black resign, in the last part, is it possible that after Re6-Rc7, RXe7-c2 (check), Ka1-c1 promotes to queen and mates white

After Rxd4, Topalov could have played ... Kb6 (noted by Kasparov himself), after which things are not so clear. Which is why I've always felt that previous game against Kramnik was Garry's true immortal.

In last game that showed, when rook d7 happened towards the end, wasn't it more good for black to move his rook to d8 to create a counterplay..... Am I right or I am missing something??
