Three Star Vagabond

Жыл бұрын

Gothenburg is sometimes called the Little London of Sweden, and in 2023 the city turns 400 years old. Time to celebrate - and to check out everything that Sweden's second biggest city has to offer!
For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel: kzfaq.info...
Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos: / threestarvagabond
In this video I give a history to the city, and I also dive into why the 400 year celebration is all a LIE! But I also explore everything you can see and do when you're visiting. Aside from scenic views and quirky details that can be found all over town, I also check out the following places:
- The parade street Avenyn
- Götaplatsen, with the Poseidon statue, the Museum of Art and the Gothenburg Art Gallery
- Feskekôrka, the strange sounding fish market from the 19th century
- Parts of the island of Hisingen, with for example Lindholmen
- A few bars and pubs, such as Lilla London, Rockbaren and the Steampunk Bar
- Universeum, Gothia Towers and Liseberg - the biggest amusement park in the Nordics
- The infamous crossing Korsvägen
- The public sauna and public swimming pool called Pöl Harbour
- The Museum of Natural History
- Aeroseum, an amazing air force museum
- Haga, the oldest district of Gothenburg, where you can buy a gigantic cinnamon bun called Hagabullen
- Skansen Kronan, a defensive fortification from the 1600s
- The Botanical Gardens that turn 100 years old in 2023
- Slottsskogen, the biggest and oldest park in Gothenburg
- The Play Shoreline (Spela Shoreline) monument
- Trädgårdsföreningen, the Horticultural Society in the city center
- And finally, a quick look at Paddan, a very touristy boat ride along the city canals
Join me in this exploration of everything Gothenburg has to offer. It may not be as cool as Stockholm...but it's not too shabby at all ;)

Recently went to Sweden a few weeks ago, and I immediately fell in love with Göteborg, surprisingly more than Stockholm. Plus, the west coast archipelago islands there were so tranquil. Tack så mycket for uploading these and making me want to go back again soon! Can't wait to see more of your adventures!

Would like to visit the city again, but since I'm not "insane" Stockholm will probably be higher on my to-visit-list for the near future. :) By the way: I never knew the Dutch played such an important role in the founding of Göteborg, nor did I know that the names Kattegatt (and even Skagerrak) were of Dutch origin.

I lived in Stockholm for many years and I've never been to Göteborg so far. I was planning to go visiting but every time I see a video of that city I feel like maybe I should move there. I do nog drink alcohol at all and I don't smoke and the majority of people in Stockholm don't smoke either, which I love. I'm also very clean and tidy and even in this case Stockholm and I get along. But when it's about fun Stockholm is the saddest city I've ever lived in. Göteborg looks more alive, is that it? Can I ask you what was your impression about the differences between Stockholm and Göteborg also for how clean the cities are compared to one another? Tack
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond Жыл бұрын
Hmm.. Difficult question. I think Göteborg is a bit more relaxed and laid back, so maybe people appear to have more fun. And the city is also very focused around parks in central areas that people hang out in. It gives it a very lively feeling. But I'm not sure if there's actually more to do or more events. The cleanliness is probably very similar to Stockholm, but the areas I visited in Göteborg might have had a bit more trash than the places I usually go in Stockholm. I suspect that that's because Stockholm is more spread out, but if you go to e.g, Rålambshovsparken it's full of trash as well. But it might be easier to avoid in Stockholm.

@@ThreeStarVagabond thank you for the info. For what I know we don't have many places we can go to in Stockholm, especially for someone like me who loves new wave, 60/70/80, pink Floyd, led Zeppelin. Pub anchor is just for drinking while I love music and dancing. Now there are also no more excuses as we are allowed to dance. Maybe debaser but it's always off. People in Stockholm prefer to stay home and meet people at home, ir go out with the intention of drinking/ dating while I would like to go out dancing, especially since I work a lot, I do not drink and my way to space out is following music. I had to fly to Rome to dance on the weekends 😢
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond Жыл бұрын
@@astridcyanistescaeruleus4126 Sorry to hear that! But that's actually a really good point - almost everything in Stockholm (and maybe Sweden) is centered around drinking. It's a tough nut to crack, but many people simply spend time with people who drink but stay sober - and most seem to accept that stance. Maybe that might help - find a group with similar interests and just skip the drinking...

@@ThreeStarVagabond This topic may take a while to cover, so I'll summarize it briefly. My first sambo pretended to be a perfect match for me, showing no interest in alcohol, drugs or smoking in order to impress me. However, to summarize, I found out that he was quite the opposite when he was with his friends, and I ended the relationship. To my dismay, my second sambo turned out to be very similar, and I had to break things off with him as well. They are both Swedish. I won't elaborate any further on trust issues I have now, to avoid digressing. Over the last decade, I haven't come across anyone who shares my love for spontaneity but also abstains from drinking, snus, mushrooms, or other substances. I used to reside in Karlaplan and then Enskede which are decent areas in Stockholm, but I still haven't found anyone who shares my perspective. I believe it's simply how things are here in Sweden or at least in Stockholm. I ended up isolating myself and feeling better off alone. Perhaps with the recent reopening of dancing clubs, there could be a shift, but I don't think that's the fundamental issue. Lately, I've been feeling even more constrained as I haven't left Sweden for five years because of the "V". and such. I'm currently traveling through Italy and Spain, and having fun every day, which has brought me to realize how much the environment affects me. Consequently, that's why I was checking videos regarding Göteborg over Stockholm. Maybe moving there could help. But after what I've seen and heard the confusion persists.
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond Жыл бұрын
@@astridcyanistescaeruleus4126 Yeah, I honestly think that it's more a question of the Swedish cultural mentality in that case, rather than any particular cities. It's probably a bit better in e.g Gothenburg...but it's definitely not like in southern Europe. There are always exceptions to the rule, so there's bound to be more Swedes that share your views - but it's unfortauntely quite rare I'd guess! :/

That's a really interesting topic! And a pretty sensitive one as well in Sweden these days. Yeah, it's difficult to transfer large amounts of money and buy things - Sweden is very bureaucratic in that way! So it's a negative thing about the country. But I like the nature and other things despite that :) Let's hope it works better next year then!

you should have talked about the classical architecture, which is much better than bland Stockholms yellow, bleached, little to no ornamented, buildings.

I think it's a mixed bag in both towns, actually... But yeah, I simply didn't have much time to focus on architecture this time at least

I understand, but then the water area and old town of Stockholm are really pretty, and beat gothenburgs harbour by miles. But the actual inner town I think is prettier in Gothenburg.@@ThreeStarVagabond

@@jonathan130 Fair enough! Yeah, I think Stockholm used to be pretty until they torn down the inner city and built the concrete monstrosities they have right now... But then again, I never saw it like that - but I like the old pictures of the city back then!

Good video, the only thing I would object to is our public transport. I lived for 10 years without a car or bike in Gothenburg, its pretty excellent, just have to figure out the app.

Calling it insane to prefer Gothenburg is insane, my entire area does. We prefer Gothenburg over Stockholm cause people from stockholm are dry and generally worse people. Gothenburg is also less stressful and the people there are amazing.

It´s because of the big influx of immigrants from UK, especially from Scotland. Companies like Götaverken, Göteborgs Kex and Carnegie Porter were all started by Scots. And think of Chalmers, he was scottish.

@@ThreeStarVagabondI’m afraid you may get disappointed seeing how many people there support the government. Maybe it’s worth talking to them and explaining to them that there are no enemies on the other side of the conflict. Segregation won’t help unfortunately, on the contrary it might lead to even more misunderstanding and mistrust.

@@Thomas.Deverell I think it's hard to reach out to people who are unwilling to listen. But I fully agree that segregation isn't the solution - and I truly believe that most people would be happy to live their lives in peace, without harming anyone else if they just could.
