Жыл бұрын

I recently made a video about things I hate about Sweden, so I was asked to do a follow-up about things I love about Sweden as well. This wasn't as easy as one might expect, but here are the top 10 things I LOVE about this country!
For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel: kzfaq.info...
Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos: / threestarvagabond
This video is from the perspective of a Swede who's lived all his life in Sweden. Sometimes it's hard to see the positive things about where you live - the grass is always greener on the other side, right? But I did my best to find ten things that I really appreciate about Sweden.
There's no surprise that nature is going to be part of this list, so I placed it at the very start. But I think that a few of the other items will surprise you. And I had to stray far from my Swedish roots when I got into things that I felt were dangerously close to boasting...
Check it out, and let me know what you think. Do you have completely different things that you like about Sweden? Let me know in the comments if so!

My first car was a SAAB 99 - loved it despite the rust, the gearbox and the firm ride.

Once upon a time i dreamed to move in Sweden, for some of the reasons you mentioned, but particularly because of your introvert-lifestyle. I've even had an offer from Erricson)) And now, sometimes i have regret about time's gone, and that i no longer have an opportunity neither move or even visit your country. Nevertheless, i like watching swedish blogers time-to-time, videos about your life, and this makes me a bit envy :D thank you for your video)

Regarding biking: I had heard that Holland was the no.1 Bike country in the world, but I was amazed when we visited Utrecht, rented bikes and found a highway-like system of bike lanes leading into the city. Denmark go home.... Utrecht is like a mini-Amsterdam and highly recommended.

Great Video I dint realize Sweden had free education, that’s awesome. The big one for me that Sweden does oh so well is the balance of work and home life. I’ve been at the job I have now for 19 years and only get two weeks vacation a year , not the normal but I make more than the average person so I’ve put up with it. There is so many things the Swedes do better than Americans. My wife and I will be arriving in Stockholm on Thursday and I can’t wait to see your beautiful country. Thanks for all the info and stay safe till next time.

That's very true... Swedes really do appreciate their free time, and hobbies as well. And spending time with kids and family etc. Somehow we make it work without spending too many hours at work. But then again, I think that people down south in Europe work even fewer hours. I guess each culture has its own way to find a work life balance, even if it doesn't always feel completely balanced. Cheers and hope you have a great one!

I've been watching your videos and strongly feel that I am a true Swede at heart - despite being British (Welsh/Irish and a tiny bit English)! All the things about being introverted, quiet and modest completely work for me, as well as the unquestioning obedience to maintaining queue discipline and never sitting next to anyone on public transport. I previously watched some YT content from an American guy living in Sweden and found that everything he said was 'weird' was completely normal and desirable for me!! I even prefer the cold to heat! 😊

I think the similarities between our cultures is striking, actually! I always find myself right at home when I travel over there. (Not that I've been to Wales yet, but England / Scotland / Ireland at last). It's really much more of a culture clash for Americans I'd say. It's they who have a weird culture - not us :)

As always, a great video. The points you make about things set up to make a large middle class is great. It's funny how people in the U.S. who talk about "the good ol' days," talk about times when there was a larger middle class. Free, or even affordable education is a rarity stateside. I'm one of the 40% of people who went to college on loans, but never finished because it was still too expensive. And moving up from that has not been easy. So, it's great seeing the places that offer at least a few more opportunities to educate oneself and have more time to pursue dreams. Because you're right: tech in the U.S. does not afford a good work/life balance. I'm very fortunate to be efficient and not as on-call as the rest of my team. I will log in tomorrow and see signs of people working all weekend on releases that will probably end up pushed back anyway.
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond Жыл бұрын
Haha yeah I think the good ole days might have been quite different compared to what people think these days. But yeah I feel extremely fortunate about both the education and the work life balance. There are so many things that would have been different (and likely worse) for me without being here. It's pretty insane that so many people over there take such huge loans! Especially since it's such a risk of dropping out for various reasons :/ But yeah happy that you're not working yourself to tears during the weekend at least. Time for podcasts and other writing then! :)

@@ThreeStarVagabond It's very sad seeing people take out big loans and then the way the loans can be sold and traded to other financial groups, resulting in more money for them...and longer payments for borrowers. Then, when relief is even discussed, people shout, "Socialism!" ... while remaining quiet about huge tax breaks and subsidies to big businesses 😕

Hej... you had to make this one also! I recently made one too, but I think there are many things I can add and won't be hard to make a second one. A few things I disagree with tho. You have a very good public transport in Stockholm and the Gothenburg trams were also really nice, but up here in the North the picture is a bit different... and as well as we don't have very good public transport, we also don't have a very good in between town's one. When I was travelling down to Gothenburg I had to drive 1h to my nearest train station (Kramfors) then take the night train to Arlanda and then take a flight to Gothenburg where we had to drive 1 more hour to the apartment. And on top of all that the train to Arlanda had some issues and we had to get out of the train in Uppsala and be driven by Bus from Uppsala to Arlanda... It was an adventure and I had almost exactly 12 hours of travel to get to Gothenburg. There should be a direct night train from the North to Gothenburg, but they are very rare... it should be every night, but it actually is not, so as a newcomer to Sweden and everybody saying how good the public transport is... well, I was a bit disappointed. Aaaanyway... Nature up here is great and the people are open enough that you don't feel alone! 😉😁 Stay safe. Greetings from the North and will see you in your (or mine) next one! 🔥🌲🦌

That is so true! People often say that Sweden is divided between Stockholm and the rest of the country, but it's really split between big cities and less populated areas. A lot of things are quite different up north, especially the transport! But thank you! And it's really funny to compare the things you love and the things I listed :D There are some things that I just take for granted, like drinkable tap water and seasons. I'll continue watching your list now :D

Love the winter months, Christmas time and winter sports outdoors, winter clothes and accessories, furniture manufacturers, and exporters and ofcourse the shopping centres , underground rail contruction to the whole country except the very north, housing systems accomodation and ofcourse the schools systems, festivals and entertainment including night life, its nature and the way they dealing with truss and recycling systems even in supermarkets, the kiosks and corv and ice-cream at winter time too , agricultural products and the quality of food and beverage also traditional festivals , and ofcourse the architecture. Also the government system when they have to deal effectively with the well being of its citizens. Also the inspiring way keeping peace in the world. Worklife balance for families its top of the tops I think and the education at any age. People have its own funny side if you come closer and that it not easy for an Swedish person as they seams little cold from outside but its all about individuals educational and social life you know. Most of all the history of Swedish country is have some surprises too!!! God bless them all. As I said is a very interesting country with multicultural society but stiil hold on on tradition and conservation when to come to represent its self to outside world !!! You have absolutely right about what you described about the society and its people. In general they are gentlemen in all aspects of social services and social life being respect and very proud about their country ! Especially country side and the climate and natural resources and environment!!! Its respecting it so do the other side too so they can survive together and thrive !! Thank you again !!

Buildings, streets, parks, etc. Everything is in order, looking beautiful (that's not very lagom, but I like it that way :D) - Everyone is friendly and trying to help you in the best way he/she can. Just det! Jag håller med! For some laughs I want to share what I wrote on my blog about Glasgow 11 years ago: Taking a shower I was again reminded about that weird thing that somehow the British have been left in a time-space-warp that causes them to use completely illogical faucet/tap systems with separate hot and cold water supplies, but no way to mix them. Except in your hand maybe. With boiling water. Brilliant. I wonder when they travel to foreign countries and return and why they don’t tell people - “Listen, I’ve seen things you wouldn’t believe… they’ve got some sort of mixing apparatus for cold and warm water! It’s simple and ingenious!” Come on, it’s not rocket science, really.
